Does it feel like the meaning may have been lost without adding in a couple more verses?

Luke 22:31 And the Lord said, Simon, Simon, behold, Satan hath desired to have you, that he may sift you as wheat:
Luke 22:32 But I have prayed for thee, that thy faith fail not: and when thou art converted, strengthen thy brethren.
Luke 22:33 And he said unto him, Lord, I am ready to go with thee, both into prison, and to death.
Luke 22:34 And he said, I tell thee, Peter, the cock shall not crow this day, before that thou shalt thrice deny that thou knowest me.
Luke 22:35 And he said unto them, When I sent you without purse, and scrip, and shoes, lacked ye any thing? And they said, Nothing.

Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

Luke 22:37 For I say unto you, that this that is written must yet be accomplished in me, And he was reckoned among the transgressors: for the things concerning me have an end.

Luke 22:38 And they said, Lord, behold, here are two swords. And he said unto them, It is enough. (Enough it is)

It seems when a bunch of "punctuations" along side word arranging, the meaning may also be changed. When I read 37
THIS, that is written "AND HE WAS RECKONED AMONG THE TRANSGRESSORS"...this must be accomplished.

Do you think, is this what was meant?
You are right. How about this:

I say unto you, Isaiah wrote, “they numbered me with the transgressors; and I bore the sin of many while making intercession for them.” (Isa 53:12) In fulfilment of this prophesy I need you to buy two swords.

There goes any hope of my being a Bible translator. :( Only joking.

I tried to put the whole verse into modern English, but you did better. I have incorporated your translation into mine, but tis a poor attempt. Back to the KJV

Isaiah wrote “I WAS RECKONED AMONG THE TRANSGRESSORS” and so would bear the sins of many while making intercession for them.” In fulfilment of this prophesy I need you to buy two swords.

The prophesy is in found in Isa 53:12.

That prophecy has nothing to do with swords. He was numbered with the transgressors at His crucifixion, not at His arrest. The temple guards made no (recorded) attempt to arrest anyone else.

You are correct regarding the events of the day and no fault was found in Him. So how was Jesus to be numbered among the wicked according to prophesy?

It was by association. Dr. Lightfoot tells us the sword (the actual physical sword) is symbolic of those who transgress the law by breaking the 6th commandment. So in this way, even though Jesus was innocent, he would be falsely numbered among the wicked because his disciples carried swords. Thus fulfilling Isaiah's prophesy.

Jesus was crucified alongside two other condemned men. They were considered criminals, as was Jesus.

I don't know who "Dr. Lightfoot" is, but I'd encourage you to consider Romans 13:1-5, esp. verse 4. In that verse, the sword is a metaphor for authority and legal punishment, not transgression.

Different situation and thieves carry swords.

OK, so Jesus was numbered among the wicked choose how it happened in accordance with prophesy. That is good enough for me.

I see no relevance to that, and your sweeping assertion is not supported by Scripture.

OK, so Jesus was numbered among the wicked choose how it happened in accordance with prophesy.
"He was numbered among the transgressors." That's the prophecy.

"Two other men, both criminals, were also led out with him to be executed." That's the fulfillment.

That is not for us though.

Luk 22:36-38
(36) "But now," Jesus said, "whoever has a purse or a bag must take it; and whoever does not have a sword must sell his coat and buy one.
(37) For I tell you that the scripture which says, 'He shared the fate of criminals,' must come true about me, because what was written about me is coming true."

(38) The disciples said, "Look! Here are two swords, Lord!" "That is enough!" he replied.
I think that whether it's for us or not is a matter of opinion.

If the objection is that it was only spoken to those who were gathered with Jesus at Passover, one could also note that the commandant to go into all the world was only spoken directly to the 11.

Having no idea so going off reading others points of view, I find that no one agrees with what this means. I myself like the interpretation that life up until then walking along with Jesus was fairly safe. Jesus was the "problem" the Jews were focused on. Previous to His crucifixion, there were many accepting but after, they would not be as easily accepted and there were going to be many hostile situations they would be facing, and I like to think that we as Christians don't have to take being treated bad without cause and that we may stand up for our beliefs.
Right/Wrong, not really any different that what seems to be everyone. Maybe because God has different purposes for each of our lives so we get different messages. IDK just thought I would give 2 cents.

When Jesus said go buy a sword, he was not talking to you.

It's true that he was not speaking directly to me when he said go buy a sword. And he also wasn't speaking directly to me when he said
Make and baptize disciples—Matthew 28:19
49. Teach disciples to obey

He was speaking to YOU. It was either for education, example, background, etc. but it is all speaking to you. If not you, then who?

OK. But you do know know that Jesus was very unhappy when Peter cut off the centurians ear. He was a pacifist and told us to turn the other cheek and not even to call someone a fool. Jesus had a very good reason for wanting to be associated with a sword and it had to do with the fulfilment of prophesy. The verse even tells of the OT prophesy.

And yes, Jesus does want us to make disciples and baptize people.

Jesus was talking to his disciples not us. He wants weapons to be turned into ploughshares.

There are two categories of the law given in the OT. One is ceremonial the other is moral. The ceremonial laws were completed in Jesus as fulfilling the law {circumcision, atonement and sacrificial}. The thing to understand is God's standards never changes as far a Holiness, therefore thoes laws still remain and always will.

If it is in the Word, it is in there for us, in some way. God did not just throw random stuff in there that has no meaning. I stand by my statement.

The reason it is there is because the Jews in particular do not accept that Jesus is the promised Messiah. So if it can be shown that Jesus fulfilled the prophesies relating to Him, then it proves beyond doubt that Jesus is indeed the Messiah. That is the reason for it being there and it is vitally important that we understand this.

Where does it say in Scripture that Jesus is a pacifist? Where does it say that Jesus was unhappy at Peter's actions? Jesus told us to turn the other cheek in a particular context. Do you understand that context?

So my statement saying it was for you ....for education, is correct?
