The father does give away the bride, which is a nice gesture, but I'm not sure if this is in the Bible.

Children, obey your parents in the Lord: for this is right. Honour thy father and mother (which is the first commandment with promise) That it may be well with thee, and thou mayest live long on the earth. (Eph 6:1-3)

a grown woman is not a child

honor does not mean do everything they say. it means 'give weight to their words'

you are guessing everyone is a Christian in the scenario you painted. a non Christian father will not give the best advice to a Christian daughter

Exactly. That is why a grown woman should already be married and consult with her husband, as the Bible clearly states. I believe I already made that clear.

But Paul says to remain single if we can, and that singlehood is a blessing. Discussions like this should not be a debate on marriage vs singlehood...the Bible says both are blessings.

What verse says that the unmarried woman should ask her father at home?
Well, it was the culture in this time. No need for to mention. An unmarried woman was under authority from the head of the family. Normaly the father.

Even though Paul recommended the single state, Jesus already told us that it is not for everyone. The general teaching on marriage from Genesis to Revelation is that the single state is NOT a desirable state. Neither are celibacy and asceticism taught by Christ and the apostles.

Getting back to the topic, it is generally applicable since Christian women (even young widows) were to be married, not single. Therefore they are encouraged to ask questions of their husbands, and of course, if the husbands cannot adequately answer, then both should sit down with one of their pastors or elders.

My dad tells me I'm an adult and can make my own decisions. Is this unbiblical?
No, I suppose you are from india. I have been there some Times. And special in the landregions the culture is still there, if I am not wrong. It has nothing to do with unbiblical if your father give the deceision to you. In your case your father allowed you, in other families the father still is the authority and would not allow to make own deceisions.

Many thoughts from the world came into the church, which were influenced from the timespirit which questioning the word of God.

It applies to Christians. Non Christians do not obey the authority of the word.

When married the honor goes to the other spouse and together they can honor their elders by giving them little weight in their decision making.

When my son was growing up he would sometimes get in trouble and His mother and she would give all day seminar on how to conduct himself. Or it would seem all day. There were times when he would ask for my help to have her stop . I would tell him if your do not learn how to commune with his mother .He would receive an extension in his own wife. The same applies with the woman. Gods design for peace . When two or three are gather together in the name of Jesus and give honor to the word of God .He is there working in them.

The reference to women' being 'saved in childbearing suggests a wife to husband relevance but...

Complimentary verses come to mind with the same idea in regard to the context of this verse.

In order of appearance:

Job 13:5 Oh that ye would altogether hold your peace! and it should be your wisdom.

Prov 15:2 The tongue of the wise uses knowledge aright; but the mouth of fools pours out foolishness.

Prov 17:28 Even a fool is consider wise if he keep silent, and discerning when he holds his tongue.

Eccl 5:3 For a dream comes through the multitude of business; and a fool's voice by multitude of words.

When rightly dividing parables we use the temporal things seen to give us the mysteries of faith .Without the unseen understanding of faith there would be no way to teach us how to walk or understand God not see . The tongue of God's prophecy is hidden in parables, without them he spoke not.

The pains of the sufferings of Paul where made lighter yoked with Christ our rest.. Giving strengthening Paul with a living hope that could be worked out until Christ was formed in Timothy considered a chaste virgin bride.

it can be seen in the parable below. Using Paul as the mother u of us all (free woman) . Tim became one also when he preached the gospel hoping Christ would be formed in those given ears to hear.

Galatians 4:19 My little children, of whom I travail in birth again until Christ be formed in you,

Beautiful picture as a metaphor of the chaste virgin bride the church in Revelation 12.

Revelation 12 King James Version (KJV) And there appeared a great wonder in heaven; a woman clothed with the sun, and the moon under her feet, and upon her head a crown of twelve stars: And she being with child cried, travailing in birth, and pained to be delivered.

Some literalize the parable and come up with a queen of heaven using the corrupter flesh of mankind. The Jews performed that in the Old. Catholic the new.
You really aren't getting this.

If anyone is still under their parents' roof, they are under their parents authority. Young adults should not even be in such a position, but if they are then they are definitely under parental authority.

And grown women should certainly not be in that position. The Bible encourages young women and young widows to marry, bear children, and manage their households.
So any adult female who is not married is just out of options, in your opinion? This shows how fantastic (as in unrealistic) your views are.

Has it occurred to you that many single adult women would like to be married? Has it occurred to you that some are not called to be married? Your interpretation of the passage is simply not consistent with reality.

1 Corinthians 14:35 is about the husband and wife relationship - marriage.

1 Corinthians 14:35 is addressing women with learned believing husbands.
An unbelieving husband could not answer his wife questions. An unlearned husband could not answer his wife's questions.

There is no verse in the Bible instructing unmarried women to go home and ask their fathers. God In his infinite wisdom could have inspired men to write such a verse into scripture, but he did not.

Telling unmarried women to go home and ask their fathers is presumptuous.
It presumes that the unmarried woman's father is a learned believer. Many fathers are not devout Christians. They don't study the bible or attend church. Many fathers are not believers at all.

Timothy learned about the faith from his grandmother Lois and his mother Eunice
2 Tim 1:5

Telling an unmarried woman to go home and ask her father also presumes that the unmarried woman still lives under the same roof as her father. Not all unmarried women still live under the same roof as their father for any number of reasons.

Some unmarried women's fathers have passed away.

Some unmarried women's fathers have left the home in search of greener pastures (trading the wife in for a newer model).

Telling unmarried women to ask their male pastor or elder has proven problematic on more than one occasion. There have been numerous scandals about pastors and elders involved in extra marital affairs with women that they were supposedly teaching or counseling. Billy Graham was aware of this problem, and he set a personal boundary for himself known as the Billy Graham rule. Billy Graham never met with women, who were not his wife, alone.

Billy Graham's grandson, pastor Tullian Tchividjian, failed to follow his grandfather's example and has been involved in extra-marital affairs and church scandal.

If you're allowed something by a person into whose care you were entrusted (since your dad raised you), or they are happy with what you do, nobody can call it "usurping authority".
Similarly, if someone willingly gives you something, nobody can say you stole it.
This basic semantics is why I have been facepalming reading half of this thread.
