I could be wrong, but wasn't Constantine's main contribution to changes for the church the fact that he was the Emperor that made Christianity Legal and also began supporting them with state funds? He inserted his influence in a council over arguments that threatened to split the churches but he was not really considered a theologian nor did he architect any systems. Those came later from one of his sons right? I think he gets too much credit for things that came after him. I have to revisit church history. The fact that he supported the churches and bishops with power and might of Rome and gave them finances which made them become dependent on such secular resources was the cause of the decline and apostacy. They became more concerned about such influence and prestige than being sojourners and pilgrims. Being despised by the government and the wicked masses was better for them in keeping them holy and unpolluted by the corruption that is in the world from lust. Once they had the favor and esteem of the State and the masses they became another form of the Pharisees.
We should not expect the world to love us and help our cause. If they do, we are liable to get complacent and love this world too much.
