Yah, graffitti is really vile. Modern day scourge.

Tattoo's are just (for me) a personal choice to permanently
make yourself ugly.
Mayes I myself don’t have any , but I think My point is I have known some extremely beautiful people who belong to Jesus Christ who by thier outer appearance don’t seem appealing or maybe they have sleeve tattoos

so I try not to look too hard at tatoos or outer appearance now days knowing the gospel

I heard it once said, "Why would I put a bumper sticker on a Bentley?" Made me laugh...
lol yeah

it’s just my own personal view a lot of my earthly family and Christian family have tatoos but I’ve found it doesn’t bother me , hat they , have a tattoo or twelve and if it doesn’t bother them I should look more to what kind of person they are to the other people in thier life both friend and stranger

I once knew a pastor named Paul , little balding fellow , always jolly and resembled Santa clause a bit. In his life before Christ called him he had been involved in a biker club and spent some time in jail really the first third of his life was there lifestyle he had several
Tatoos

he kept inviting me to attend his church we had met through a mutual friend and so I finally gave in and attended for a week .

To My shame at this point in my life I was letting his appearance matter and I had secretly thought “ I don’t think this guy has much I need to hear “ so I had kept avoiding it I wasn’t beyond making up an excuse to avoid things in those days

when I attended his church , I found a very loving and accepting group of folks who some looked like him had tatoos and didn’t even dress in thier Sunday best others who did and looked more like the Christians I was used to seeing at my Protestant church in those days

they dressed in nice clothes and had no tatoos or piercings , one woman dressed in a nice Sunday dress another wearing jeans and a leather vest over her ordinary shirt

I was observing things before the sermon started and I noticed the well dressed with no tatoos who didn’t appear to look as a criminal element , walking over with joy and hugging and pulling close the others who looked like they could belong to a biker gang

I saw thier kids all gathering up together for the kids service as the sermon began and it was the same thier outer appearance didn’t matter haircut , skin tone , how they dressed they all with joy for together and were excited to see each other

the sermon he preached that day was straight from the gospel involving the parable of the Good Samaritan . He also used an example from the ooor widow tommake a few points and he talked about the examples of how the Pharisees treated the poor and known sinners , and how different Jesus treated them

this pastor left the earth in passing about ten years ago , but I heard a lot of wonderful information in his sermons after that when I attended and saw a hundred examples of this man laying down his own desires , to help the needs of his church in different ways

whether staying all night with a man who lost his mother , or paying bills for some of the needy out of his own money he was far from perfect but he never pretended otherwise . I look back at his tatoos now , as a test and lesson for me looking ahead

I don’t want to miss what God has to say because of what someone looks like or even what they used to be

“This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭1:15-16‬ ‭KJV‬‬

if his tatoos were a sign of his prior life of sin , we all Have tatoos on our flesh even if they aren’t of ink

I kinda feel like OP was just looking for an argument. Which reminds me of the Python argument sketch:

Jennifer, if you have tattoos, all you have to do is to repent and ask God to forgive you. Clearly, God hates tattoos.

And don't side-track the issue; just focus on the 'terrible truth about tattoos'.

God will forgive!
You have spelled this member's name incorrectly.

I find there are some very pretty ones in my opinion but others that I don’t like too.
When I see them I see mutilation of what God created. It brings about a need of prayer for me for forgiveness of the almost automatic judgment of others that wrongly comes to me.

I'd rather hang out with a church filled with tattooed Christians who are full heartedly seeking God versus a church with nice dressed and the image of we got it all together, fake Christians.

I see it differently. I see many as quite artistic. I don’t care for the skull ones or the scary ones. It’s art too but not my cup of tea.

I think often in the church there can be a front put up. This can be due to discomfort or simply not knowing many people there. I agree we should not pretend to be something or someone we are not. Being genuine is important. However just because one is not genuine in a moment, that doesn’t make them fake Christian just human.

I think Gods plan is for those from all different walks of life to come together on the one thing that matters eternally

“Neither pray I for these alone, but for them also which shall believe on me through their word; That they all may be one; as thou, Father, art in me, and I in thee, that they also may be one in us: that the world may believe that thou hast sent me.

And the glory which thou gavest me I have given them; that they may be one, even as we are one: I in them, and thou in me, that they may be made perfect in one; and that the world may know that thou hast sent me, and hast loved them, as thou hast loved me.”
‭‭John‬ ‭17:20-23‬ ‭KJV‬‬

I don't think anyone is advocating that getting a tattoo prevents one from being saved. This is a Christian discussion board. I think the discussion is whether or not Christians should get tattoos.

Being against tattoos is not legalism anymore than being against prostitution is legalism.
Well said, John. I just told the truth about tattoos. And those with guilty consciences are after my blood!

Instead of defending tattoos and giving all sorts of excuses about them, some even justifying them, why not just repent?

Frankly, a lot of people claim to have faith, but they forget that the gospel message begins with repentance! What was John the Baptist’s message? How did our Lord Jesus begin His ministry?

Ans: Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand!

That's a stupid statement. It's wrong on several counts, not the least of which is your self-righteous martyr complex.

By the way, the gospel message begins with the Person and nature of God as manifested in Jesus Christ. Without Him, there is no point to repentance.

are you sure your not equating it with salvation ? It seems as if you are placing a very large importance on a matter that Jesus never even spoke of. And actually taught us not to make any judgements aall Based on outward appearances.

the kingdom of heaven a matter of whether or not someone gets a tattoo or not ? and is that in any way something we as other Christians should judge for another person ? I don’t think it matters that much honestly I think it’s stumbling block and actually means you yourself shoild Never get a tatoo Because it would defile your own conscience but you also shouldn’t be calling for repentance for others regarding a tatoo when it’s such a trivial matter that Jesus never even mentioned anything about it

we can’t even know what repentance is without hearing his truth

“Pilate therefore said unto him, Art thou a king then? Jesus answered, Thou sayest that I am a king. To this end was I born, and for this cause came I into the world, that I should bear witness unto the truth. Every one that is of the truth heareth my voice.”
‭‭John‬ ‭18:37‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we share his gospel because his truth gives us this ability

“In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.”
‭‭2 Timothy‬ ‭2:25-26‬ ‭

“For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus;”
‭‭1 Timothy‬ ‭2:3-5‬ ‭KJV‬‬

“And Jesus answering said unto them, They that are whole need not a physician; but they that are sick. I came not to call the righteous, but sinners to repentance.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭5:31-32‬ ‭

we can’t repent until we understand where our repentance is needed

This understanding Jesus is teaching produces godly repentance when we come to acknowledge his word it will
Bring to light our repentance

“But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, Bless them that curse you, and pray for them which despitefully use you.

And unto him that smiteth thee on the one cheek offer also the other; and him that taketh away thy cloak forbid not to take thy coat also. Give to every man that asketh of thee; and of him that taketh away thy goods ask them not again.

But love ye your enemies, and do good, and lend, hoping for nothing again; and your reward shall be great, and ye shall be the children of the Highest: for he is kind unto the unthankful and to the evil.

Be ye therefore merciful, as your Father also is merciful.

Judge not, and ye shall not be judged: condemn not, and ye shall not be condemned: forgive, and ye shall be forgiven: Give, and it shall be given unto you; good measure, pressed down, and shaken together, and running over, shall be given into your bosom.

For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again.”
‭‭Luke‬ ‭6:27-30, 35-38‬ ‭

If we would hear and believe Jesus that would cause is repentance because none of us who think we’re doing perfectly can study his word and think that .

but we always reject what he’s saying and the repentance he promised to cause in the ot prophets doesn’t happen because we can’t understand what he’s done we’re like the ot folk we’re missing the marvelous work of the lord by rejecting the gospel

“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭12:2‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus doctrine of heard and believed changes how we think and that changes our behavior bringing real repentance that ensures and doesn’t come from effort but faith

“And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:”
‭‭Colossians‬ ‭3:10‬ ‭KJV‬‬

we’re renewed because we accept and believe what Jesus came to tell us and do for us also

“And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”
‭‭1 John‬ ‭5:19-20‬ ‭KJV‬‬

Jesus came to do this

Hearken unto me, my people; and give ear unto me, O my nation: for a law shall proceed from me, and I will make my judgment to rest for a light of the people.

My righteousness is near; my salvation is gone forth, and mine arms shall judge the people; the isles shall wait upon me, and on mine arm shall they trust.”
‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭51:4-5‬ ‭

I think that people who worship God and love God with their whole heart and soul would not change what God has created, knowing what God created is good. Women add cosmetics to their skin, but any time those cosmetics are extreme they are considered in bad taste. To add tattoos to permently change skin is extreme. It is the same with changing foods. When man processes food so it is changed, like taking out all parts of the wheat berry except the white starchy parts, it damages food to feed our body properly.

In the old testament it was part of the laws that we do not need to follow any more. However, those laws were created by our Holy God, and they were holy. Each of them had a spiritual meaning that was eternal. Cutting flesh symbolizred circumcision of the heart, not eating food from animals who ate garbage symbolized not feeding the mind garbage, not mixing fabrics symbolized not mixed worship of God with worshiping idols. The command not to tattoo was to not copy the people who did this as idol worshipers.
My understanding of th elessons of the law is very limited but some I do understand. I refer to those laws which seem a bit on the uinimportant side, like not using to types of cloth.
I thought this until I learned from Jesus-Yeshua that our apparel is what we have done as works in our life, the good works is clean and whit shiniing while any works of this world are filthy garments..
Yes the law teaches us Love and points directly to our Savior when the eyes of our heart are opened.

Why are you so touchy about tattoos? The Bible declares that tattoos are WICKED.
Why God says they are evil, why are you beating about the bush? Confess your sin and get right with God.
So tattoos are a trivial matter? Don't you know that your body (IF you are a true Christian) is the temple of the Holy Spirit?
Don't defile your body! Don't be a stooge of Satan.

Why this long discussion? Just REPENT and you will have the guilt rolled away. The blood is still available for cleansing.

Jaume, a little knowledge is a dangerous thing.
You claim to get direct messages from God the Holy Spirit.
You seem to discount the Word of God.

Your half-knowledge may suit some of the folks here, but one day you will have to stand before God and explain why you misled people, leading them away from the truth. Be a man! Stand for the truth! You are to live to please God, not those who are stubborn in supporting a Satanic practice.

May the Holy Spirit convict you in this matter. (P.S. I am praying for you, that you stop being a people-pleaser, and start living to please God. Study the entire Word, including Leviticus, my man, and God will help you!)

I use tattoos to cover the scars on my body.
The tattoos is a cross with wings:p:D

Jennifer, just a suggestion. John Cleese, poor man, ended up losing his wife. Monty Python arguments are just media propaganda.

Artistic? To mutilate your own skin?
Have you ever opened the Bible and read what it says about tattoos and defiling your body?

May God grant you enlightenment!
