I can't view the video, but I remember when the hysteria about fat in the diet began. People were generally about the normal weight then. Since fat became "evil", obesity has become a major issue. Clever marketing jumped on the ignorance bandwagon and suddenly everything was low or fat free. Now the "experts" are saying that they got it wrong. Of course they did. Fat is not the villain. Sugar is. It's just calories with no nutritional value.

quote from the video:
"Scientist were paid in the 1960's to play down the link between sugar and heart disease and instead make saturated fat the culprit"

 anyone else shocked to hear this?

I heard of that but then if you really look at how sugar is made you'll know why the sugar plantation workers called it the 'white death'.

If memory serves, sugar wasn't/isn't exactly off the hook. It leads to tooth decay and it contributes to weight gain just like (some) fats do.

I've heard that sugar is one of the most addictive substances on the planet. They have even gone so far as to equate it with cocaine (the other white substance) heroin, and nicotine. That's saying a lot on HOW bad the stuff is to actually ingest as it destroys your body slowly over time. I don't need to mention all the health issues that come next. Yikes! Oh! and don't forget about HFCS (high fructose corn syrup)!

As is often the case, an element of truth, a dash of hogwash, exaggeration and speculation. For sure sugar is nowhere near as addictive as cocaine or heroin.

Fruit has sugars. That what fructose is. If people have enough exercise to burn up the calories, they will not get fat. An excess of a lot of things, even vitamins, can cause health problems.

Personally, I cut down my sugar intake where I can. I'm not obsessive about it. I avoid soft drinks that have sugar and I don't have it in tea or coffee. That's to keep my weight under control, not because I think sugar is a poison.

Food is broken down by the body into sugar (also amino acids and fatty acids) which provides energy. Excess is stored as fat. The body also stores sugar in your muscles for speedy response when required. I was very ill one time and lost a lot of weight. The dietician told me that I should eat more so that I did not suffer muscle loss. That's one bit of medical advice I've had no trouble following.

The two greatest enemies of good health are worry and a sedentary life style. The Bible says not to worry about food. Also, everyone is a little different physically. What is good for one person may not be so great for another.
Matthew 6:25
"Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? "

That, I suggest, is the best advice you can have.

Sugar is not bad for you....nothing that tastes that good can be all that bad.

John the Baptist ate locust and wild honey....half his diet was sugar.

And the varying lobbies all fund research to claim competitors are bad for you. Saccharine does sugar research, sugar does Saccharine research. Both do corn syrup research with outcomes already determined before they get there.

Your conclusions may be based on inadequate information!!!!! Perhaps you are situated better than me as I am primarily relying on Wikipedia at this time. You are showing no references. I was recently looking at Wikipedia regarding one of the newer artificial sweeteners, unfortunately I did not bookmark the reference, and the Wiki article or another article it referenced stated something to the effect of 'sugar', derived from cane I believe and no certainty as to whether or not this would include 'sugar' derived from beets, is an inflammatory 'substance'. The article also stated that 'honey' is NOT inflammatory. In my own personal use of both sugar and honey I sense there is merit to this claim and feel that it would warrant legitimate further research if not already done.

You are exactly right. Good instinct. God put sugar in fruit and honey for a reason. Our cells run almost directly on sugar. Low carb diets spike stress hormones cause the body's fat burning mode is directly driven by cortisol (stress hormone). This is why people feel energy (burst of stress hormones!) on low carb, but it's not such a good idea long term. I encourage anyone looking for more info to look up Dr. Ray Peat PhD.

But I 100% agree that fat, specifically saturated fat, shouldn't be demonized either. I also think we should avoid junk food, but it's probably not clean sugar that's the issue, and definitely not carbs. People ate MORE carbs 100 years ago than they do today and there was far less degenerative disease then.

I'm trying to be helpful :) I hope im not wrecking anyone's hope. But i nthe long run it's good to know what's really going on. I wouldn't recommend low carb. Yes you can lose fat, but I personally know people that have had low thyroid symptoms from it and low energy. In fact, it happened to me... And this is a predictable result. Carbs are needed for the thyroid.

You can look up a paper by Kyle Mamounis PhD if you want more info on the stress hormone thing.

One other little tidbit...
The locust in the area at that time were usually served deep fried...as in boiled in ghee. (Ultra clarified butter)
It was considered to be like caviar or truffles are today.
Hence the reason why people kinda looked at him in a rather odd fashion.

Diabetes is a serious disease. When I visit a diabetic in a hospital or nursing home, there are always foods and beverages that cause insulin dumps and pancreas damage.
These are not accidental menu items.
My diabetic friend had gone into surgery with serious dehydration and a blood glucose level dangerously low. This was under strict protocols of the hospital that controlled food, fluid and insulin levels for over 24 hours prior to surgery. His levels were normal upon admission. The day after, they made sure to raise that blood glucose to 300. This is a major hospital that had over a thousand patients like him. Sugar and artificial sweeteners are used as drugs in these places. Unfortunately, people are being overdosed with those and pharmaceuticals in these dangerous institutions of "health care."
