You are exactly right. Good instinct. God put sugar in fruit and honey for a reason. Our cells run almost directly on sugar. Low carb diets spike stress hormones cause the body's fat burning mode is directly driven by cortisol (stress hormone). This is why people feel energy (burst of stress hormones!) on low carb, but it's not such a good idea long term. I encourage anyone looking for more info to look up Dr. Ray Peat PhD.
But I 100% agree that fat, specifically saturated fat, shouldn't be demonized either. I also think we should avoid junk food, but it's probably not clean sugar that's the issue, and definitely not carbs. People ate MORE carbs 100 years ago than they do today and there was far less degenerative disease then.
I'm trying to be helpful
I hope im not wrecking anyone's hope. But i nthe long run it's good to know what's really going on. I wouldn't recommend low carb. Yes you can lose fat, but I personally know people that have had low thyroid symptoms from it and low energy. In fact, it happened to me... And this is a predictable result. Carbs are needed for the thyroid.
You can look up a paper by Kyle Mamounis PhD if you want more info on the stress hormone thing.
