I find having several translations, ESV, NASB, AMP, and KJV, to compare and contrast very helpful.

You seem to have misunderstood my original question.
The point isn't whether they're true or not. What I asked was: should everyone fall in line with them simply because they believe they have God's truth and tell us we should fall in line? Isn't that essentially what KJV onlyism does?
Nope, you should seek it out yourself. A faithful witness cannot lie. I would never force my belief on anyone, but I will defend it when necessary.
Just curious, what have you found in the new versions that was helpful over the KJV?
In addition, it is also inseparable to say God and His word is "Truth" and that there's no lie of the truth.
John 17:17
Sanctify them through thy truth: thy word is truth.

I disagree. I think that those who accept any translation, including the KJV as perfect without looking into anything further are saying man is superior to God. They are wrong to accept what men have determined God tells them. We are to put our faith in God, not some men's ideas of God. That takes using all our resources in the search, not just one group of men or one man.
Honestly, they just help bring clarity when needed. Also helps me memorize and study on a more deeper level. It stays with me more when I compare and contrast. It helps me dive into His deliciousness. Oh how this reminds me of one of my most favs...

But I will say that the kjv is certainly not corrupt...your professor probably has a bias against it because of its take on holiness...he probably wants to have his cake and eat it, too....believing in a gospel that will save him from hell without saving him from sin first...for that he probably does not want to be saved from sin....he probably loves his sinful lifestyle and therefore does not want to give it up...which would account for a bias against the kjv...since the teaching of the kjv is that you cannot have your cake and eat it, too!
I will say that I read English quite well...
And that I believe that God, in His sovereignty, Omnipotence, and love is both able and willing to preserve His unadulterated message in Bibles that we can read in our own language.
So, I'm afraid that you put all of that effort into learning Greek for nothing...because you will get no less of the unadulterated message of the word of God by reading it in the English than if you read it in the Greek.
In fact, the "educated" scribes and Pharisees rejected Jesus while the common people heard Him gladly.
And thus the "educated" Greek and Hebrews scholars might be more inclined to reject Jesus and what He says to us than those who read His unadulterated word in the English language (the common people).
I suppose that Jesus also encouraged a cultic mentality when He said to us what He said in Matthew 7:13-14.

In the kjv, there is more of a message of holiness in these verses than when you read other translations; and people do not like the message of holiness that the kjv has to offer.
They are heaping to themselves teachers (in the translators of other versions) to tell them what their itching ears want to hear.

1Pe 5:10 (kjv), But the God of all grace, who hath called us unto his eternal glory by Christ Jesus, after that ye have suffered a while, make you perfect, stablish, strengthen, settle you.
1Pe 5:10 (ESV), And after you have suffered a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to his eternal glory in Christ, will himself restore, confirm, strengthen, and establish you.

The fact of the matter is that THE MAJORITY of so-called Greek scholars and critics have all been duped by the Great Bible Version Hoax created by Westcott & Hort. Which goes to show that the more "educated" a person is, the more likely that person is to be deceived by Satan. That is why Paul spoke about "the simplicity of Christ". Thus the Higher Critics and the Liberal churches have either attacked the Bible or rejected its fundamental teachings. The mainline denominations all went down this path.
But even the fundamentalist Bible schools and seminaries have swallowed the nonsense derived from W & H hook-line-and-sinker. And that's why almost no Bible college or seminary is holding fast to the Authorized Version, and very few preachers are sticking to the KJB.
Most Christians do not know that there was an actual conspiracy to dethrone the Textus Receptus and the King James Bible in the 19th century, in the Church of England. But Dean John William Burgon (an accomplished conservative textual scholar) exposed this conspiracy in his outstanding book The Revision Revised. But did anyone listen to him? Hardly. Yet honest and sincere Christian should read it and give heed to what it exposes.
The real issue is that EVERY WORD of God is pure, and to be regarded as such. But modern versions have played fast and loose with the words of God. Thus thousands of changes are seen in them.
Perhaps it does stretch the head at times, but maybe that is a not bad thing. If one's dark heart is set on twisting and mangling, then any version can be abused. God will give a little time to repent, but then the Judgement. Context and the Spirit give all the clarity any man needs.

in the eye of The Father when we are covered by the Blood of his dear Son. We must not let little squibbles and squabbles detract from the joy of communion and fellowship in and through Him who loves us so.
