Isn't this where Jacob wrestled with the 'angel'? Just other day came to my mind 'God you have got me pinned down'. And then I thought Jacob wrestled and 'angel'.
wrestled with a man ?

“And Jacob was left alone; and there wrestled a man with him until the breaking of the day.

And when he saw that he prevailed not against him, he touched the hollow of his thigh; and the hollow of Jacob's thigh was out of joint, as he wrestled with him. And he said, Let me go, for the day breaketh.

And he said, I will not let thee go, except thou bless me.

And he said unto him, What is thy name? And he said, Jacob. And he said, Thy name shall be called no more Jacob, but Israel: for as a prince hast thou power with God and with men, and hast prevailed.

And Jacob asked him, and said, Tell me, I pray thee, thy name. And he said, Wherefore is it that thou dost ask after my name? And he blessed him there.

And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life is preserved.”
‭‭Genesis‬ ‭32:24-30‬ ‭

Remember who blessed Abram his grandfather ?

He brought forth the bread and wine of communion to Abram the Hebrew and he was after renamed Abraham now jacob is blessed and renamed Israel

it’s pretty cool abram met Christs preisthood , received communion with the body and blood of Jesus and then is “ reborn “ his old name forgotten and he began his walk as Abraham the father of many nations anew like Abraham was “ born again “ even with a new name recognized by God

it’s a similitude and root of the gospel and the doctrine of putting away the old
Man and embracing the new man

Yea...he wrestled a man. And it is recorded a bit later than where the angels are ascending and descending a ladder and God is at the top and tells Jacob He will give him the land. per Gn. 28 It was the wrestling in my thoughts. Just struck me as I was eating. Don't know why. I think it is the idea I have and looking back, I see God or angels were trying to wrestle me and pin me down all my life. I did some posts of Kingston trio and finally listened to some of their songs and one is about a traveling man and I started thinking how for about the middle 25-30 yrs of my life were spent 1 yr at a time. Never spent more than a yr on a job or at an address and pretty much the same with personal relationships. Some ways makes me think or Jonah try to not do the work he was given. Reading your post seems some of the same.

Communion commentary of MacLaren @ Bible hub starts here.
Remember, too, that all this communion, intimate, sweet, sacred, is possible only, or at all events is in its highest forms and most blessed reality, possible only, to those who approach Him through the gate of His death. The feeding upon the living Christ which will be the strength of our hearts and our portion for ever, must be a feeding upon the whole Christ. We must not only nourish our spirits on the fact that He was incarnated for our salvation, but also on the truth that He was crucified for our acceptance with God. ‘He that eateth Me, even he shall live by Me,’ has for its deepest explanation, ‘He that eateth My flesh and drinketh My blood hath eternal life.’

My friends, what about the hunger of your souls? Where is it satisfied? With the swine’s husks, or with the ‘Bread of God which came down from Heaven?’

In looking over the discussion thread there seems to be two thoughts which are confusing contributors.
1. Some are saying holy communion is the body of Christ. We need no bread and wine or supper to be in this communion. Answer- The Bible does speak of the Holy Christian Church which is all believers in Jesus Christ. This is also called the Communion of Saints. How does Jesus want to fee His body so they remain in faith? With His Word, Baptism and His Holy Supper also call Holy Communion. These are the means the Holy Spirit uses to strengthen and preserve faith in Jesus.
2. Jesus definitely gave to the disciples His body to eat to the disciples when He handed them the unleavened bread. As they took a piece He said "This is my body given for you for the remission of sins." He also gave them His blood to drink when he handed them the cup of wine that had been used during the Passover meal. As they drank He said "This is my blood, shed for you and for many for the remission of sins." Then He said "do this in remembrance of me." He wanted them to continue this sacred meal in the future.
Did they actually eat His flesh and drink his blood?, No they were not savages. Nevertheless because Jesus said this is what they were consuming they believed it. He was giving them the very price of redemption which He would pay in full the next day. The benefits of which He wanted to share with them and future Christians because He knew we would need assurance of forgiveness of sins, strength of faith and confidence of entering heaven when we die. What more powerful ally could assure that He would provide these blessings than His body and blood?
How did Jesus give the disciples part of his body to eat?

Holy communion is becoming one with with Jesus, in whatever way his character might shine through us. 😊
Sometimes, he's seen in us the way he gave the bread and wine to the Apostles, his beaten and blood shed body.
Heb.11 is a good chapter on communion with Christ. ❤️

1 Corinthians 10:15 I speak to sensible people; judge for yourselves what I say. 16 Is not the cup of thanksgiving for which we give thanks a participation in the blood of Christ? And is not the bread that we break a participation in the body of Christ?

We offer Holy Communion to remember our Lord's death but also to receive what we sinners need- forgiveness of sins. That is surely offered in the meal as Christ promises that His body will be present in the bread and His blood present in the wine. The very price of our redemption is offered and given to those who approach the altar. He is really present in a mystical union with these elements and thus with those who partake in faith.

Something so sacred and meaningful should never be a ritual- a mechanical thoughtless practice- to a Christian.

We can take communion as often as we desire, it should not be limited by a man made organization.

Yes and No. The Lord's supper is more than a simple remembrance; however, His body and blood are not present in the elements. He is present with us at the Lord's table in the same way He's always present with us: When two or more are gathered in His name, He is there with us. There's nothing mystical or magical about the bread and wine itself.

If Christ is literally present in the loaf, then when it is broken we're literally sacrificing the Lord again.

Seeing as how correctly dining upon Jesus' flesh and blood provides his
guests eternal life; then they shouldn't have to eat his body more than once
because eternal life is imperishable. (or so I thought anyway)

I believe Jesus Yeshua has taught that as often as we come together to do this *breaking of bread, do this in memory of Him.

The pass over was done in remembrance of Isreals freedom from Eygpt and was a typology of the death of Jesus.
The comunion service set up by Jesus before He died is to be done in remeberance of His death.

op: Holy Communion?:

UNholy, Correct?:
2Co_6:14 Be ye not unequally yoked together with unbelievers:
for what fellowship hath righteousness with unrighteousness?
and what communion hath light with darkness?
I believe These Are Holy:
2Co_13:14
"The Grace of The LORD Jesus Christ, and The Love of God, and
The Communion of The Holy Ghost, be with you all. Amen."
+
1Co 1:9
"God Is Faithful, By Whom ye were called unto
the fellowship of His SON Jesus Christ our LORD."

A symbolic remembrance, Correct?:
1Co_10:16 "The cup of blessing which we bless, is it not
the communion of The BLOOD of Christ? The bread which
we break, is it not the communion of The Body of Christ?"

Confirmed By:
1Co_11:26 "For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink
this cup, ye do shew The Lord's Death till He come."

Thus, literal cannabilism is not the same as symbolic representation,
Correct? "Drinking blood" is forbidden to the Jews, but not to the
Gentiles, to receive Christ to be saved [over and over again?] as some
teach? Christ Only Died ONCE With The ALL-Sufficient Payment For sin,
And:

HE Is Already "Living In" (Col 1:27, 3:11; Rom 8:10; Gal 2:20; Eph 3:17)
the humble who "Received Him By Grace Through faith"
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . (Eph 2:5,8-9; Tit 3:5)
+
Precious friends, what do you use for Representations of?:

The PURE Body .-.-.-.-.-.-.-.-. And PURE BLOOD Of The HOLY LORD?
leavened bread & alcoholic [germ/bacteria laden] old wine?
OR: UNleavened bread / fresh & pure New wine (fruit of the vine!)

Why I would never use alcohol?:

"Wine is a mocker and strong drink is raging, and whosoever
is deceived thereby is not wise." (Pro 20:1)

The early church took communion each time they met, there is a point between the taking of the two elements that healing can be sought and received, that is how the early church received healing. The part where it states to call for the elders for healing was mid-week, between the services. Thus, we should be able to get our own healing since He indwells us.
There is so very much we have missed out on with our outward form of Godliness denying the power.:):coffee::unsure:

I have been doing this on my own. And now I wonder if that is ok since I see a post referring to>>Matthew 18:20 For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them. Now wondering should I continue doing communion myself. Also saw a post mentioning priest and saying we are all priests?

I would make a priority of finding others with which to take communion. There's probably nothing wrong with doing it by yourself, but it would be better in a group in my opinion. If you get comfortable doing it alone you may become slack in looking for others to fellowship with. Communion is all about fellowship with the Lord and the body of believers.

In the fourth chapter of John's gospel, Jesus advertised a brand of water
that folks would have to imbibe but one time, and one time only, because it
permanently eliminates the need for more.

And then in the sixth chapter, Jesus spoke of a food that God provided Moses'
people. Even though it was miraculous food, its nourishment was limited, viz:
good for only one day, i.e. they had to keep eating it day, after day, after day, in
order to stay alive.

In the same chapter, Jesus advertised a food so complete that folks need to
eat it but once, and never again, because its nourishment is strong enough
to give them immortality.

At first the Jews were excited to be told of this new food. But when Jesus
revealed its ingredients, many went away disgusted because, at first glance;
the ingredients are extremely repulsive.

I would like to offer that God won‘t be impressed by our participation in what is called the Lord’s supper, if we aren’t working at ditching our adamic nature and character flaws.

I used to participate in the last supper rite, until I saw that people were not being changed for the better. So I concluded they must have mistakenly decided that, providing they participate in church services and the communion rite and other religious rituals, they are good with God.

I’m sure you’ll agree that unless our behaviour is improving, then God will not be impressed with our offerings and sacrifices.
The question isn't so much is change being done as who is actually doing the changing. While it is possible by the determination of one's will to alter behavior, only God is able to produce change in the heart that alters the underlying motives. And sometimes that work is imperceptible.
And it's a wrong conclusion that we find acceptance with God based on our behavior...by works of the law shall no flesh be justified.
