It is not splitting hairs. Did you know there was no punishment for fornication in the Old Testament. You only had to marry the woman.
Sounds like punishment to me. LOL

Not true, sometimes you paid the bride price and were considered married but the father didnt have to give you the daughter.
Also fornicators are listed in the long list of those who will not inherit the kingdom of Heaven. If you dont think Hell is punishment, knock yourself out.

It's when people in the church uses Matthew 5:28 to tell singles if they even think of sex it's a sin. Jesus was not referring to singles on singles. He was talking about anyone stalking and planning on having sex with a person who is married. The church has blown this out of proportion to mean any sexual desires by a single person is a sin. As I have said, if a single person just thinking about sex is a sin and having sex outside of marriage is a sin, you may as well have sex.

They just get married.....
Frequently to 4 women (even in the West) and all they need do to get rid of a wife is say "I divorce you"
They can also make temporary marriage contracts in order to have sex.

Never, hold Islam up as a worthy example. We can learn nothing beneficial from that vile antichrist religion.
Only the shias believe in mut'ah which is temporary marriage. I do agree with you that its a vile antichrist religion, and dangerous as well, they taking over here in Europe.

There is nothing that says thinking about sex is wrong - Fornication & Adultery - and looking lustfully. Man and women were created as partners & to multiply. - the OT & Jesus were pro marriage - Matthew 19:4-5 - 4. "Haven't you read," he (Jesus) replied, "that at the beginning the Creator `made them male and female,' 5. and said, `For this reason a man will leave his father and mother and be united to his wife, and the two will become one flesh' ?
Paul - mentions better not to marry - unless you cannot control yourself - so basically for sex get married - no love / family etc... just sex.
1 Corinthians 7:2: 2 Nevertheless, to avoid fornication, let every man have his own wife, and let every woman have her own husband.

The principal applies to all sin. Jesus even applies the same to murder. Saying of ypu hate your brother...so it does apply to singles sitting around eye sexing women.
The problem is that you dont understand sin. Sin is not neccessarily about what do, it about the condition of the heart. No sin is ever committed that isnt born in the heart. Seting around entertaining sin in the mind bears out the action. It is written," take every thought captive and make it obedient to Christ". Sitting around day dreaming about fornicating with a sister isnt taking thougts captive and making them obedient to Christ, therefore it is indeed sin. So do yourself a favor. Own your own failure, confess them to the Lord and seek repentance.

Not everyone is given a gift of being single.
That is true but if it happens to be anybody's lot they have to learn to cope with it, it wasn't God's will for them but He will still provide abundant grace to deal with it.

Perhaps most of us fail somewhere to attain to God's best for our lives, don't blame God that only compounds the problem, seek His grace and power to attain to whatever blessing you can.

.... it's still 100% better than backsliding.

"But I tell you that anyone who is angry with a brother or sister will be subject to judgment. Again, anyone who says to a brother or sister, ‘Raca,’ is answerable to the court. And anyone who says, ‘You fool!’ will be in danger of the fire of hell. " Matt 5:22. Jesus is saying having a constant contempt, constant putting down someone. It isn't about using the word fool or being angry at the moment.

"Stalking"? If you're going to be strict with the text, don't add words to it! That concept is nowhere in Jesus' words.

I've been considering your position further, and I will agree that you have a valid point with regard to the context of marriage, even though I don't agree with your conclusion. I think you go too far in restricting the context to 'a married woman' when the broader context of Jesus' sermon is in showing the broader application of the Law. I very much doubt that He intended to teach that only thinking about sex with someone else's wife (rather than with an unmarried woman) was inappropriate.

The misuse of this text as applied to singles is a related but separate issue.

There is no such thing as "sex outside of marriage" sex is in fact the start point of marriage.

Um... what?

If you are married, and have sex with a third person, are you now committing bigamy? No. If you are not married, and have sex with someone, are you now married? No.

You might want to rethink that.

"But if you do marry, you have not sinned, and if a betrothed woman marries, she has not sinned. Yet those who marry will have worldly troubles, and I would spare you that." 1 Corinthians 7:28 Sadly, you have troubles either way. But some in the church make being single even harder than it should be, by telling singles if you even think about sex, you have sinned. Or they use "Stay away from every kind of evil. " 1 Thessalonians 5:22 They use that verse for anything they don't like.
YOu forgot to add:
1Co 7:27
Art thou bound unto a wife? seek not to be loosed (divorced). Art thou loosed (Divorced) from a wife? seek not a wife.
28 But and if thou marry, thou hast not sinned; and if a virgin marry, she hath not sinned. Nevertheless such shall have trouble in the flesh: but I spare you.

The "Church" likes to beat up on divorced folks. They're apparently NOT aware of 1 Cor 2:27,28.

Paul's rationale as he says is: You wanna be a minister of the Word, It'll be EASIER if you don't encumber yourelf with a wife and family to distract you from your central mission. ANd he modifies his statement by saying: HEY!!!! I can do this. but not everybody can.

We have this for starters...

1 Corinthians 6:15-17 (NASB)
15 Do you not know that your bodies are members of Christ? Shall I then take away the members of Christ and make them members of a prostitute? May it never be! 16 Or do you not know that the one who joins himself to a prostitute is one body with her? For He says, “THE TWO SHALL BECOME ONE FLESH.” 17 But the one who joins himself to the Lord is one spirit with Him.

Yes... I'm aware of that. It says they become one flesh; it doesn't say they become married. There is a difference.

I’ll answer it and no that isn’t a sin. Sex is supposed to just be about creating a family.

To me, it’s utilitarian in purpose even though there is a pleasure aspect to it, that isn’t what you’re supposed to be focusing on. So thinking about sex is kinda like thinking about baking a cake in some ways. Just don’t think too much about eating said cake.

While I think married people have a bit of leeway in that gray area, if you’re not married then you have no one you should be fantasizing about.

Does that make sense?
I've got a couple of things to say about this.

First, I learned a new word today.

Utilitarian.

I had never heard that word before, but I kind of guessed what it meant before Googling it based upon the manner in which you used it.

Second, when are you going to send me a piece of that cake?

For crying out loud, man, don't mention food when I haven't eaten anything for hours!

Actually, I thought that that was a pretty good analogy that you gave.

:)

So why don’t you go find a wife?
I honestly believe that a lot of men who profess to be Christians would much rather just find a "hooker" if God allowed it. I'm not leveling my accusation against anybody in particular, but I honestly do believe that. In other words, their motivation is simply unbridled lust, and they have no interest whatsoever in laying their lives down for their wives as Christ laid his life down for the church. Selfishness vs. selflessness.

Jesus was speaking about the 7th Commandment. Which is about adultery, not fornication.

You might want to ask Jacob about that. He didn't even know which woman he was consummating his marriage with. But they were married all the same.

I don't understand how Jacob could do that. He wasn't too bright.
