It's gonna happen to everyone someday. When it happens to you, what do you want your friends and family to do?

Funeral?
Memorial service?
Irish wake?
Plant a tree in your name?

Me, I want a good church dinner. Not a funeral with a dinner afterward, a dinner instead of the funeral.

Fried Chicken
Watermelon
Sweet tea
Pecan pie
Tater salad
Brownies

It's a lot harder to be gloomy at a dinner.

Don't worry about the price. I will have a separate fund set up to pay for it. I may have to occasionally add to it to compensate for inflation creep.

But I don't want a lot of people hanging around all gloomy when I go. Gloomy is not my thing.

I've been thinking about this a lot especially with the recent passing of my Dad.

At the moment, I think I just want to be cremated, no service or memorial. Then just spread my ashes in the flower bed out front.

Better the flower bed than the yard. I would hate to have to get a haircut long after I'm dead.

"Your uncle Lynx is looking a bit shaggy lately."
"Yeah our lawn mower is in the shop."

Inflation is going to be a killer. Have you considered purchasing a little cave, and then they can just wheel you in when you're ready? As for the ongoing land taxes after the big day, someone else's problem, right?

What an interesting topic.
Well, this is more for the loved ones we leave behind i guess, but some ideas include:

* Freezing yourself - but this is seen as selfish or weird for the rest of the family. But if the whole family can get onboard, it'd be cool.
* Maybe bury myself on some high cliff watching the ocean and the stars all day and night. This is also nice but it might be seen as selfish by the family, unless they're also onboard for themselves.
* Cremating - i hate this. But if the family likes it, sure do it, i won't know anything anyway.
* Composting - kinda interesting but not sure how i feel about this, maybe you'll give life to a tree so maybe being buried next to a tree might be better as opposed to composting.
* Regular burial - most likely scenario - just MEH.
* Above ground burial - like the Egyptians in a tomb - i like this too and they do it in South America but just like freezing it's expensive and it's also seen as selfish.

And all of these options should be accompanied with some sort of party of music for the people.
That's all i got.

For Christians, death should be viewed as a celebration. I told my kids to have a celebration. I have no problem being cremated and asked them to throw my ashes off the end of a local pier.
Your idea of a send off dinner is awesome. My family will quickly have their grief assuaged by the time they are on their second portion of sweet and sour pork at the China Buffet. By the time they hit the dessert bar, their sorrow will be gone.

Not too sure about the sweet tea. Prefer unsweet with a twist of lemon. Be sure to include a tip when you make these final arrangements. I really like your idea of a dinner service instead of a gloomy funeral service. I like all of the food items that you listed too. Gloomy is not my thing either. Actually, I might plan something similar for my demise, which, hopefully, is not imminent.

That would work for me too.

I want to be buried first with simplicity and have a memorial service be held afterward. The service can be held at the church I attended as a kid, at the funeral home or at the cemetery, depending on circumstances.

Ideally, I'd want my relatives/guests to put on a dinner consisting of:

Fried chicken
Pulled pork BBQ (vinegar based)
Hamburgers
Hot dogs
Sweet tea
Unsweet tea and sugar for those who want it
Water
Baked beans
Potato salad
Reese's themed desserts
All the fixin's to go with everything

;)
