This thread is for anything you have noticed lately that has improved life, but nobody has announced it. They just did it and didn't tell anybody and now our lives are better.

Brussels sprouts, for example. Anybody noticed how they are soooo much better now? If you remember yucky, bitter brussels sprouts from your childhood, go get some now and try them. They are not bitter at all!

How about car windows when it rains? Has anybody noticed that when you're driving down the highway you can roll your windows down and not get wet? Why is nobody talking about this? They figured out how to shape the car interior so air pressure keeps rain out when you're driving. Of course when the car is sitting still your arm still gets wet...

What about you? What little things have you noticed that make our lives better, but nobody seems to be talking about?

I'm just curious, how long ago have you noticed this brussels sprout phenomenon?

I was staying with my parents a few years ago and my Mom was continuously trying to feed them to us -- and they were characteristically, well, "brussels sprout-y" every single time, except for an occasional mutant sprout that might only be half as bitter.

I'm still not convinced enough to go out to buy some just to check... Well... maybe just one.

But I'm wondering.

Does Tennessee get some kind of hybrid vegetables we don't have access to in the Western USA?!

I've never thought brussel sprouts were bitter, but I've only eaten them from middle-age forward. Never had them before I was 40, which is odd because we always had a garden and were always given alot of stuff from other people's gardens.

Lol. I thought it was just because I was old and my taste buds must've burned out.

But I definitely hated them as a kid, and now the taste doesn't bother me - I do in fact like them.

I never knew about the car windows, either. 'Though I do know I get far less than 2 to 3 breakdowns a year, as I used to when I first started driving.

Cameron,
I've tried to grow Brussel sprouts in two states now. They are a cool season crop best grown in fall grown at a steady tempture 45-75 degrees. Growing takes 80-130 until harvest. A light frost is recommended before picking as it takes most of the bitterness from the spouts.

I've never had a Brussels sprout, and don't ever plan on tasting one. They just look horrible to me. One daughter tried to get me to prepare some Brussels sprouts for dinner once. I told her she'd have to both procure them and eat them if she wanted them. Strangely, she hardly ever speaks to me anymore...

I think my life is better from avoiding Brussels sprouts.

I'm with you JaumeJ

They've are probably my favorite veggie. I've liked them since I first ate them.
I personally think that when it comes to food, a lot of the times it comes down to who cooked it and the way they cooked it. For example, I love spinach, but I always hated the way my grandmother prepared it :p

Much of the taste in food is in how it is cooked and what it is cooked with. Also is the food nutritious? Brussel Sprouts is very nutritious.

Yes, a lot of things that I grew up not liking (like my grandmother's spinach lol) I really enjoyed once I started cooking those things myself.

How much voltage we talking about here? Small enough that it doesn't offset the benefit?

Never been a fan of those brussel sprouts. But I've heard smaller is better. Also depending on where they are grown can affect the outcome (something to do with the type of soil they grow in) or so I've heard...
now I've a an itching to try some

Next time it rains I'm going to roll the windows down on my car to test your theory. I believe that you are right about the brussels sprouts too. Maybe they are GMO.

The car windows thing only works at highway speed, from what I've seen. If you try it sitting still and get wet, don't blame me. :p

They say it's definitely not GMO. Just good old fashioned selective breeding.

Taste good though. Yeah, highway speeds for the rain/window test run. Could be refreshing.

It definitely is. I look forward to driving in rain these days. It smells good out there when it rains.
