Where is the “facepalm” emoji when I need it…

Some people have heard an audible voice. That is not my personal experience.

Your position is indefensible. Move on.

I heard the Lord utter my name but only once in forty years.

My minister heard His voice audibly but only once also.

Not much evidence to base anything on.

You are simply flipping back and forth with your/them experiences.

Your reasoning is childish.

We are talking about supernatural physical manifestations of the Holy Spirit and you know it. Must I break it down for you.

supernatural
adjective

(of a manifestation or event) attributed to some force beyond scientific understanding or the laws of nature.
_______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

physical
adjective

Things that can be touched and seen, rather than ideas or spoken words.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

manifestation
noun
an event, action, or object that clearly shows or embodies something, especially a theory or an abstract idea.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

of

preposition
expressing the relationship between a part and a whole.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

the

determiner
denoting one or more people or things already mentioned or assumed to be common knowledge.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Holy Spirit
noun
(in Christianity) the third person of the Trinity; God as spiritually active in the world.

Sounds like the language of the Enlightenment.

Very 18th century Europe.

How do you "know" this?

Because the scripture says so.

The Lord's commandment tells you to pursue the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

That perfect letter of Corinthians (the scripture) tells you to pursue the greater gifts.

You can then pivot and not pursue the gifts of the Holy Spirit.

I find this baffling.

Must you continue being a jackdonkey.

I am using both personal experience AND the experience of others. I really don’t care whether you accept my evidence because the truth doesn’t depend on your assessment.

May I correct your post, TrustandObey?

The verse (1 Corinthians 13:8) does not say, "special knowledge", it says only, "knowledge".

Why did you add to the scripture?

Is this your childish attempt at debate.

I am not attempting to defend TrustandObey but your point is absurd.

The verse is speaking of "special knowledge" as opposed to physical knowledge. You know, like your esoteric knowledge that you claim to have.

He most likely is quoting one of the bible versions that use this term. He is not adding to scripture.

Get a grip man! What is wrong with you.

Amplified Bible
Love never fails [it never fades nor ends]. But as for prophecies, they will pass away; as for tongues, they will cease; as for the gift of special knowledge, it will pass away.

New Living Translation
Prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge will become useless. But love will last forever!

EASY
Love will always continue. The gift to speak messages from God will not always be necessary. The gift to speak in different languages will stop one day. The gift to know special things will not always be necessary.

TLB
All the special gifts and powers from God will someday come to an end, but love goes on forever. Someday prophecy and speaking in unknown languages and special knowledge—these gifts will disappear.

Speak, yes. Such that He may be heard with the ears as an “audible voice”, no.

Your trying to tell us that you have never heard a verse being read by someone. That has not
been directly addressed to you by the Lord. You have never been reading the N.T. and have hit
a bell ringing verse. That was exactly meant for you at that specific moment.

You have never felt the Lord impress upon your spirit at different times during your life?

Please tell me you know the presence of the Lord.

An audible voice is not much to expect and it borders on trivial.

Have you ever received strong persecution for mentioning the Lord's name?

Have you ever felt the unity of the Holy Spirit in a prayer meeting?

What does being filled with the Holy Spirit even mean to you?

This is not a debate so far.

The Koine Greek does not translate into "special knowledge".

Those Bible translations are incorrect and very weak translations.

You are scraping the barrel with that reply.

If the "perfect" means Jesus then the Bible is a lie.

Whatever the perfect is, it has come.

If the supernatural physical manifestations of the Holy Spirit are still ongoing as in the 1st Century there would be no need for a biblical defense of its existence.

You and others here are attempting to defend an issue that by nature should not need to be defended. It is like proving the Law of Gravity with a textbook.

Many here have their proverbial heads in the sand on this issue. It is both a lack of intellectual honesty and blind faith to a theology that on other subjects would not be the case.

Anecdotical evidence does not supplant the prima facie before us.

Well, how about accepting that the New Testament was written by men.

Why don't you reconcile the resurrection accounts because there all different.

Don't tell me that the text of the N.T. is perfect.

The phrase, "face to face", means exactly what it says.

Okay Dino...this is the logical end to this reasoning.

There is supernatural manifestations under every rock.

When everything is supernatural then nothing is supernatural.

Remember, he has to be right since God has been giving him special messages.

Try reframing your questions without the implicit attacks. I’m not interested in being badgered.

Whatever. I know what I have seen, heard, and experienced. Nowhere have I claimed or implied that everything is supernatural.

Since you don’t appear interested in respectful conversation, I see no need to continue.

This is not the issue at hand.

The issue is simply are we living in an age of the miraculous as in the 1st Century or are we living in an age of faith without sight without the physical supernatural manifestations of the Holy Spirit mentioned in 1st Corinthians 14.

Where do you stand?

Paul wrote 'for we walk by faith and not by sight' during a time when he and others were performing miracles, so there is a doctrinal issue with the setup to your question.

Peter believed Jesus, walked on water, then __Looked__ at the winds and the waves and sank. Consider this in light of 'walk by faith and not by sight.'

Where does the Bible present the idea of the church not having these spiritual gifts in this age?

Paul wrote this at the beginning of the epistle where he would talk about gifts and 'utterance' like speaking in tongues, interpretation, and prophesying.

I Corinthians 1
5 That in every thing ye are enriched by him, in all utterance, and in all knowledge;
6 Even as the testimony of Christ was confirmed in you:
7 So that ye come behind in no gift; waiting for the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ:

Twice in my life I heard from the Lord, one was in response to a question, the other to let me know a friend had passed away. Both times I was sleeping and he woke me up. My answers came by scripture.

First time I did think it was audible but concluded it was by the Spirit as I was surrounded by family. The voice was clear and with authority.

The scripture for the loss of my friend was: Do not let heart be troubled.

The gifts of the Spirit are still in use.

The Bible says so, but we will end up interpreting the verses differently. And then the same old arguments will cycle through.

I don't know, but something feels different in the air. Like God is telling me to not to argue any of these debates anymore.

Like there is a new phase and I need to concentrate on that instead.

Amen! The Lord led me to focus on the Gospel kerygma and not quarrel about secondary doctrines.

Are you saying that the letters Paul sent to correct the problems in so many churches.
Is the perfect revelation of Jesus Christ?

Do you believe the N.T. is a perfect revelation?

Is that what you think GWH, "face to face", really means reading about the Galatian church falling
from grace. You cannot be serious GWH?

Yes, I believe JC inspired Paul and that their teachings are recorded in the NT, which fulfills the OT and perfects the biblical revelation.
I believe everyone will have perfect understanding of GW when we see Jesus face to face in heaven.
Seriously, and you?

Yes, God still gives the Spirit, and every ability we have is a gift.

The "supernatural manifestations under every rock" is referring to Inquisitor's train of thought, not yours...yet.

On the issue of what you have "seen, heard and experienced" I would answer with so did Joseph Smith.

On the issue of what you have "seen, heard and experienced" I would answer with so did Joseph Smith.
The fundamental distinction is that I am not claiming supernatural phenomena so you will believe me, but that you will believe God still speaks.

There is nothing in the verbiage of 1st Corinthians 1 to suggest that these gifts were to continue for 2000 years into our own time.

God has given supernatural gifts to mankind before and stopped them at His discretion.

Any reasonable person can see that the age of the miraculous during the 1st Century has ceased.

When it ceased I do not know but ceased it has.
