I think even though it's a deliberate and to stop a deliberate (all sin is deliberate) we need the Holy Spirit to work in us to overcome sin.

The thief called Jesus Lord.
He knew he was the only way to heaven because Jesus told him on the cross.
It can take time though, but always seek Jesus we can overcome.
But forgiveness sake when we do mess up, come to Jesus straight away, confess, thank him we are forgiven.

Jesus paid for our guilt and he can set us free.

Trust me, a man who had a severe gambling addiction as a result of severe childhood trauma and sexual abuse.

I kept coming back even I failed and eventually was set free.

God's timing his is timing, not ours.
Keep persevering. Be like Jacob.

A lot can happen in three years...a whole lot.

It is also possible that he was punished for pass crimes committed before he was baptized.

But the point is that we don't know if he was baptized for the remission of sins by Jesus and His disciples or John the Baptist and his disciples or not.

And anyone saying that they know is baloney.

We'll meet him after this age ends. I want to hear from him his testimony of how he arrived at his decision to follow Jesus and be saved. I think that would be interesting!

Nothing but the Blood of Jesus!

If water baptism washed away sins, then Jesus did not need to shed his blood, which is a requirement BY GOD for sin.

You're unbiblical.
You are trying to negate the commands of the Word of God with your bumper sticker theology.

At least use a bible verse instead of the title of a song.

Oh. So you are saying people can just decide to stop sinning??? And it will become a reality??????

With their non-existent free will, even! Now that would be a neat trick.
Can they stop sinning?
To a degree. yes.
Completely, no.

That is cute but you are as outdated as that Bumper on that car.

Acts 20:28

28 Keep watch over yourselves and all the flock of which the Holy Spirit has made you overseers. Be shepherds of the church of God, which he bought with his own blood.

COL 1:20

20 and through him to reconcile to himself all things, whether things on earth or things in heaven, by making peace through his blood, shed on the cross.

Eph 1:7

7 In him we have redemption through his blood, the forgiveness of sins, in accordance with the riches of God’s grace

Hebrews 4:19 9:22 10:19

14 How much more, then, will the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself unblemished to God, cleanse our consciences from acts that lead to death, so that we may serve the living God!

22 In fact, the law requires that nearly everything be cleansed with blood, and without the shedding of blood there is no forgiveness.

In Closing :

19 Therefore, brothers and sisters, since we have confidence to enter the Most Holy Place by the blood of Jesus,

Revelation 1:5
5 and from Jesus Christ, who is the faithful witness, the firstborn from the dead, and the ruler of the kings of the earth. To him who loves us and has freed us from our sins by his blood,

It is the Blood of Jesus, not water baptism.

How can you say "if water baptism---"? The bible says it does in very plain English!

Acts 22:16

16And now why tarriest thou? arise, and be baptized, and wash away thy sins, calling on the name of the Lord.

It's at that point that you contact the redeeming blood of Christ; were baptized into Christ and baptized into his death, and it was at his death that his blood was shed. Pretty simple to understand unless you have predetermined bias.

You can't take one verse in the Bible and build a doctrine on it at the expense of all scriptures.

I am sure you know that.

Correct, I never said that.
He is saying to not get baptized so that your sins are forgiven and receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.

In other words, ignore the following.

Acts 2:38
Then Peter said unto them, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the remission of sins; and ye shall receive the gift of the Holy Ghost.

At least he has one.

Where is your verse that negates it?

Where is your saved by faith alone verse?

No surmising, that's cheating and carnal.

It is the Blood of Jesus, not water baptism.
That's like saying, "It's the brass serpent, not the gazing upon it."

Believing in the promise of the brass serpent did not save, it was the act of gazing upon it that did.

Weeeell .. as said b4 ..the condition on no salvation..unbelief in Jesus. Not no baptism.
Amen! John 3:18 - He who believes in Him is not condemned; but he who (is not water baptized? - NO) does not believe is condemned already, because he has not (been water baptized? - NO) because he has not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.

If the thief was baptized, wouldn't that mean that he stopped stealing stuff and wouldn't be hanging on his cross next to Jesus?

🚞
Certain folks may try to argue that the thief on the cross may have been converted, was water baptized, yet the fruit of that is being crucified as a thief? - (highly unlikely)

In Matthew 27:39-44, we see that those who passed by, along with the chief priests' scribes and elders blasphemed, mocked and shook their heads at Jesus and EVEN THE ROBBERS WHO WERE CRUCIFIED WITH HIM REVILED HIM WITH THE SAME THING. More fruit? I certainly don't see being crucified as a thief, blaspheming, mocking and shaking your head at Jesus as being the fruit of repentance/faith.

Yet, moments later, we see that one of the thieves had a "change of mind" (repentance) placed his faith in Christ for salvation and was saved. (Luke 23:40-43) Of course, he died while still hanging on the cross before having the opportunity to be water baptized.

NO I did not stop lying. There is nothing in any of my posts that even suggests such a thing. The Thread is:

The Error is Baptism in Jesus' name only for salvation

If you are able to read, I have repeatedly stated that baptism in Jesus and in the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are both valid baptisms performed in water.

Now stop lying because you hate me in your heart.

Saved by Grace through faith, not of works, that no man should boast.
