When the jailer at Philippi asked what he had to do to be saved, the apostles answered: Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and you will be saved." Now, there are multitudes of bible verses that we can misunderstand, without it meaning that we are unsaved. Misunderstanding verses like these will make do difference to whether one is saved or not:

“Drink water from your own cistern, And running water from your own well.” (Pr 5:15 NKJV)

“But it has happened to them according to the true proverb: “A dog returns to his own vomit,” and, “a sow, having washed, to her wallowing in the mire.”” (2Pe 2:22 NKJV)

“Then the rest of the trees of his forest Will be so few in number That a child may write them.” (Isa 10:19 NKJV)

Of course, if we are saved, we should desire a clearer understanding of God's word.

Yes, DL! The first verse is part of the essential doctrine sinners must believe in order to be saved, and the other verses are part of the rest of Scripture that is helpful to know and believe in order to grow or mature spiritually, but a person is not damned for not knowing them or until he/she learns them. For convenience I call the essential doctrine/belief in the Gospel the kerygma (Greek for preaching) and the doctrines/beliefs that build on it the didache (Greek for teaching).

Salvation is not based on intellectual achievement. Salvation is about trusting in Jesus and his death, burial, and resurrection in payment for our sins. If we have this faith, we can be wrong about everything else. Perhaps most common are those errors we are emotionally invested in such as the religious teachings of our youth.

We are all probably wrong about something. This is where self-examination can be helpful. Humility can be useful to cultivate as it can help us question some of the things we hold to that may not be accurate.

Being wrong on difficult passages isn’t something that will cause you to get booted out of heaven, as long as it’s not twisting scripture to your own damnation, or perverting the word of the Lord. There’s a difference in being wrong and rebellion. I’m sure there are passages that I’m wrong on, but looking back, if I died believing what I know of them, I don’t believe that would cause me to be damned, as it’s not heresy or fatal error.

Can you imagine the Lord saying “Depart from me, ye worker of iniquity, for misinterpreting the prophet Zechariah, Amos, Daniel, Ezekiel!!”

Really??

Sure, there are some misinterpretations of those prophets that can be considered heretical, but I mean come on—if someone isn’t denying the Christ, His church, or believing things that are perverting the gospel and doctrine of Christ, then where’s the harm? Some of the verses were not even understood by the people who received and heard it back then (Daniel 8:27; Luke 18:34)!! It was only until after that they understood!

Some biblical topics are complex, mysterious, especially concerning prophetic passages of things that either have or have not unfolded. There will always be a point at which we disagree on certain things!!!

If our judgment or belief on mysterious or challenging issues are off or incorrect, do we really believe Christ will not allow us into heaven? Praise God there won’t be an exam on judgment day on how well you understood Revelation, Daniel, Ezekiel’s vision, or other prophets, such as Zechariah, Joel 3, Amos, etc etc in order to go to heaven!!!

Being wrong on certain verses isn’t the same as being wrong on doing the will of the Father.

James 2:13 is a sobering verse.

For he shall have judgment without mercy, that hath shewed no mercy; and mercy rejoiceth against judgment.

And I need mercy and grace everyday. In my life, my shortcomings and my misunderstandings.

To the title question , it’s probably easier to list verses that, improperly understood, jeopardize one’s salvation.

Despite the claims of some, there are few issues that you must have “right” in order to be saved.

Here are some:

You are a sinner. (Romans 3:10, 3:23)

The just consequence for sin is death (Romans 6:23).

Jesus died on the cross to pay the penalty for sin (Romans 5:8).

God wants us to believe in Jesus and His finished work (John 6:29).

eh?
Who, then, was this addressed to?

Many will say to Me on that day, ‘Lord, Lord, did we not prophesy in Your name, and in Your name drive out demons and
perform many miracles?’ Then I will tell them plainly, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you workers of lawlessness!’

Salvation is based on being able to learn and believe the Gospel, which is the highest form of intellect
or wisdom that many never achieve.

No this cannot ever happen why? Read what He said "in that day" not talking about the past but those standing there,. those He just gathered those from the great tribulation. And fact knew new you means they were never saved.. never of us. . Salvation is John 3L16-17 Rom 10:9-10.l Its not based on how good or bad even.. its faith that Christ is who He said He was .. that He came from the Father.. died for the worlds sin was buried rose the 3rd day is the only way to the Father. There is no other way in. Now there are righteous deeds works we do because He is now in us and we have a new spirit and that I believe is where rewards come in to play.

Did you write that all on your own or did you use Ai? Regardless, you make a fair point — no one’s getting cast out of heaven for misunderstanding a complex prophetic passage. We all “see through a glass, darkly” (1 Cor 13:12). But there’s a vital difference between being mistaken and reshaping Scripture to fit what we prefer.

The danger isn’t in failing to grasp Daniel’s visions — it’s in resisting the plain truth when it’s revealed. That’s what Paul meant when he warned about those who “handled the word of God deceitfully” (2 Cor 4:2). God’s mercy covers our ignorance, but it doesn’t excuse our pride when we twist His Word.

And yes, Satan loves the subtle route — he doesn’t tell people to deny Christ outright; he just whispers small re-definitions until the foundation shifts. That’s why discernment matters.

So I agree: mercy and grace are daily needs. But truth and reverence for the Word are daily guardrails — without them, even sincere people can drift into serious error.

Grace and Peace
