The record of false 'prophecies' from EG White is both extensive and alarming, considering the adherents who still follow her, while ignoring the record of error and insisting that she was both accurate and a true 'prophet'.

Adventists, having experienced the false prophecy of William Miller who stated Jesus would return Oct. 22, 1844, (aka The Great Disappointment) retroactively corrected the error of Miller by stating that Miller was over eager in his words and what actually took
place 10/22/1844, was the 'start' of Jesus final 'work', meaning the cleansing in the heavenly sanctuary which would actually lead up to
the 2nd coming.

The backlash after the failed expectations of so many, resulted in angry critcism and even, in some cases, violence from the public. It seems
that many followers had given up their possessions in consideration of the prophecied date of Jesus return and now they were left empty handed both spiritually and physically.

The Millerites had to deal with their own shattered expectations, as well as considerable criticism and even violence from the public. Many followers had given up their possessions in expectation of Christ's return. A Millerite church was burned in NY and 2 others were vandalized
while a mob in Illinois attacked the Millerite congregation with clubs and knive while yet another group, in Toronto, Canada, was tarred and feathered. In some other cases in Canada, Millerites were shot at.

Many Milleries gave up their beliefs but, during this time, as stated above, excues were made, corrections given and several new sects sprang up, apparently unwilling to admit error or the possibility they had been falling both a false teacher and a false prophet in the person of William Miller.

Due to the active and insistent amount of posts made in another thread here regarding the ongoing claims of White's adherents or SDA participants, along with the denials of scripture that indicate error or the skipping over of questions and so on by the same adherents, it seems it would be more helpful to discuss the problems of White's teachings in a different atmosphere where proof of the false prophecies and what scripture actually states, could be discussed. No prejudice intended, but open discussion is needed which cannot be had if certain people take scripture out of context to change the meaning or, just ignore scripture altogether.

Here is one false prophecy of White:

White contends the Sabbath is still in effect and Sunday is not honored by God as day to honor Him

What scripture actually says:

The New Testament clearly shows Christians worshiping together on Sunday, not Saturday and Romans 14 teaches that the individual must be convinced in their own mind of the day they choose to observe.

I'm not a Seventh Day Adventist, but believe the church is totally misunderstood by most. I'm usually the first to defend the SDA Church, most Christians are ignorant. Most get SDA confuse with LDS and Watch Tower society. My personal opinion why there is so much hate towards the SDA is the 7th Day Sabbath. It's VERY unfortunate that Christians dislike a church, because they keep God's Commandments!

I'm one who not only appreciates the SDA, but would recommend Christians to learn from this church, with some caution of course. I don't agree with everything this church teaches, but their doctrine in my opinion is far more sound, than most churches.

For one,

"William Miller is not a Seventh-day Adventist (SDA) leader; he is credited with beginning the Millerist movement, which later evolved into the Adventist Church. Miller's predictions of the Second Coming of Christ were influential, but he did not become a member of the SDA Church, which emerged from the Millerist movement."

"The Great Disappointment in the Millerite movement was the reaction that followed preacher William Miller 's proclamation that Jesus Christ would return to the Earth by 1844, which he called the Second Advent."

"The Millerites originally had adherents across denominational lines, especially from Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist and Campbellite churches, forming distinct denominations only after the Great Disappointment. They were united by a belief in the imminent return of Jesus Christ—the Second Advent. After the Great Disappointment of October 22, 1844, discussion of beliefs began to fragment the once united Millerites."

Secondly,

You are completely confused in my opinion on the Sabbath. The Sunday Sabbath is a Catholic law, it is directly related the Vatican's authority.

Exodus 20
8“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy. 9Six days you shall labor and do all your work, 10but the seventh day is the Sabbath of the Lord your God. In it you shall do no work: you, nor your son, nor your daughter, nor your male servant, nor your female servant, nor your cattle, nor your stranger who is within your gates. 11 For in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, the sea, and all that is in them, and rested the seventh day. Therefore the Lord blessed the Sabbath day and hallowed it.

Matthew 12
8For the Son of Man is Lord of the Sabbath.”

Mark 1
21They went to Capernaum, and when the Sabbath came, Jesus went into the synagogue and began to teach.

There are several different Sabbaths in the Bible that uses the same word, but has very different meanings.
Scripture only:

The seven appointed feasts are listed in Leviticus 23. In that chapter, Scripture distinguishes between:

  • “Sabbath” (שַׁבָּת / sabbath rest)
  • “Holy convocation” (מִקְרָא־קֹדֶשׁ / sacred assembly)

1. Weekly Sabbath (separate from the feasts)

  • “Six days shall work be done: but the seventh day is the sabbath of rest, an holy convocation…” (Leviticus 23:3)

This is the regular weekly Sabbath.

The Seven Feasts Examined

1. Passover

  • “In the fourteenth day… is the LORD’S passover.” (Leviticus 23:5)
No sabbath or convocation stated for the day itself.

2. Unleavened Bread

  • “In the first day ye shall have an holy convocation: ye shall do no servile work therein.” (23:7)
  • “In the seventh day is an holy convocation…” (23:8)

👉 These are holy convocations with rest, but not called “Sabbath.”

3. Firstfruits

  • No sabbath or convocation command stated (23:9–14)

4. Feast of Weeks (Pentecost)

  • “Ye shall proclaim on the selfsame day, that it may be an holy convocation… ye shall do no servile work therein.” (23:21)

👉 Holy convocation, not called “Sabbath.”

5. Feast of Trumpets

  • “A sabbath, a memorial of blowing of trumpets, an holy convocation.” (23:24)

👉 Explicitly called a “sabbath.”

6. Day of Atonement

  • “It shall be unto you a sabbath of rest… and ye shall afflict your souls.” (23:32)

👉 Explicitly called a “sabbath of rest.”

7. Feast of Tabernacles

  • “On the first day shall be an holy convocation… ye shall do no servile work therein.” (23:35)
  • “On the eighth day shall be an holy convocation…” (23:36)
  • “On the first day shall be a sabbath, and on the eighth day shall be a sabbath.” (23:39)

👉 First and eighth days explicitly called “sabbath.”

Summary (from the text)

Explicitly called “Sabbath”:

  • Feast of Trumpets (1 day)
  • Day of Atonement (1 day)
  • Tabernacles (first and eighth day) (2 days)

👉 Total: 4 sabbath days

Holy convocations (with no servile work, but not called Sabbath):

  • Unleavened Bread (2 days)
  • Weeks (1 day)
  • Tabernacles also includes convocations (overlapping with sabbaths)

Final Scriptural Distinction

  • Some feast days are explicitly called “sabbath”
  • Others are “holy convocations” with rest, but not named sabbath
  • The weekly Sabbath stands separately (Leviticus 23:3)

Conclusion (strictly from Scripture)

Out of the seven feasts:

  • 4 days are explicitly called “sabbath”
  • Several additional days are holy convocations with rest, but not called sabbath

Scripture maintains a distinction between the terms, even though both involve cessation from work.

(AI studied the so call ed seven feasts)

"Let no man judge you..........." SDA also claims that the Beast of Revelation will enforce Sunday worship, as if that were inherently evil. E.G. White claims "Sunday-keepers will "receive the full wrath of God and die"". Utter heresy, of course, based on twisted interpretations of scripture that cannot be justified.

Seems like another misunderstanding.....

"Seventh day Adventists do not say that everyone who keeps Sunday has the mark of the beast. We do not place anyone, dead or alive, under condemnation. Note this authoritative statement from the writings of the best recognized of Adventist writers,"

I believe the SDA teaches, in the Last Days the United States will align with the Vatican, who will mandate Catholicism, and require all to keep Sunday Sabbath. Which is mandating changing the 4th Commandment, so following man's laws, rather than God's laws. This is what the SDA says, is the mark of the beast.

"The Catholic Ten Commandments differ from the actual Ten Commandments found in the Bible in several ways. The Catholic Church's Catechism of the Catholic Church presents the commandments differently, with some deletions and changes. For instance, the second commandment against idols is not mentioned, and the fourth commandment regarding the Sabbath is changed from the seventh day to the first day of the week, which is Sunday. Additionally, the tenth commandment is split into two, making it ten commandments again. These changes are based on the teachings of Augustine and the Catholic Church's interpretation of the commandments."

I am a Seventh-Day Adventist. If you are interested in a discussion without SDAs I will move on but if you are open to a conversation rather than a debate I would be glad to attempt to address your concerns.

I would like to hear your rebuttal, you don't have to debate. Please don't be intimidated by ignorance.

Just show me by my actual posts. I see how things get misinterpreted around here all the time. I'm not interested in anything else but actual evidence. If you can't provide it, like I said before I am going to move on,

It's like a void or vacuum sometimes. This is where I think predestination comes in. Like Calvinism, people are predestined to see things a certain way. My saying, it's not my job to change people's minds. lol

You are sadly mistaken. ROMANS 14 DOES NOT MENTION THE SABBATH, AND IS NOT EVEN ABOUT THE BOOK OF THE LAW.

Why are you pointing out a strawman's argument though? lol They will have to come up with some other irrelevant argument, to confirm their bias.

I would caution Christians not to forget the Sabbath.

An SDA member, Dirk Anderson, who left the cult set up a fairly thorough website about his research into Ellen White:

https://www.nonegw.org/

The home page leads to an index of topics.

Be warned: some SDA's created an "anti-Dirk Anderson" response on one of their pages: https://www.ellenwhite.info/dirk_anderson_on_the_bible.htm

The pages (only two for Mr. Anderson's hundreds?) are meant to poison Mr. Anderson's credence with Evangelicals by casting doubt on his personal view of the Bible. Remember: one doesn't have to be a believer in God to know what a cult is when they leave one. No doubt, if Dirk maintains any issues about religion, it might be traced to his time with the Seventh Day Adventists. Having been lied to for years will do that to a person.

Here are his sites:

https://www.nonegw.org/ and https://www.nonsda.org/

I did not have the time to examine them closely so I am not vouching for their doctrinal stance but they seem to provide a good foundation of information that demonstrates how Ellen White and her followers lost their way.
Excellent sites. (y)

One of the most ludicrous arguments that I've heard from SDA's is they teach that the near the end of time the "mark of the best" of Revelation 14 will be placed upon those who worship on Sunday instead of Saturday.

Hello my friend, happy preparation day!
As for your question, that we see what the argument is so we can address it. All they did was post the text. Strange they say she is a false prophet because she shared that we are to keep the Sabbath and post Romans 14 as a proof text. But when engaged and asked about Romans 14 they offer nothing to show they have any bases for their claim.
I agree about the E white . She is a good example of not obeying the scriptures 1 Corinthians 14 v33- 40 . Verse 37 If any man think himself to be a prophet, or spiritual, let him acknowledge that the things that I write unto you are the Commandments of the Lord . This is rarely obeyed today . Verse 6 of Romans one regards the day unto the Lord and was does not . ( the Lord will judge ) seems to me regarding the day unto the Lord is correct . The other is in ignorance that does not regard the day unto the Lord . Sunday is never called the Lords day in the scriptures. But the Sabbath is . It is said that the believers broke bread daily , so breaking bread on Sunday does not make it the Lords day either. I believe believers proper place is in the temple , that also met on the Sabbath the Lords day Acts 2 v 46 And they , continuing daily with one accord in the Temple , and breaking bread from house to house , did eat their meat with gladness and singleness of heart . Verse 47 And the Lord added to the church daily such as should be saved . ( I find it interesting the church was meeting in the temple that for sure is on the Sabbath. ) a few thoughts. Ps I don’t think worshipping on Sunday is anything to do with the beast . But Sabbath keeping is Correct .
You are mistaken about Romans 14 my friend.
It is not about the Commandments or the Book of the Law.

Veres 1 and 2 set the context. The context of the chapter is about arguing over varying opinions with no bases not God's Word.

How do we know?

Because verse one says do not have disputes over differing opinions. And the first example brought up is people stating one should only eat vegies. There is no commandment in the Bible stating we should only eat vegies. Therefore the day in verse 6 being questioned is not the Sabbath.

Incidentally if the Bible version you prefer has the word unclean in in verse 14 it is incorrect in this instance. It should use the word common or impure. There is a difference. Peter makes a distinction between common and unclean foods in his telling of his vison.

He states that he has never eaten anything common OR unclean. The word "or" makes a distinction between the two. They are different. An unclean animal is unclean from birth. But a common animal can be so by intermingling with unclean animals, touching something that is unclean, like a dead animal, not being prepped correctly, be used a sacrifice to false gods and so forth.

Take care.

Acts 10:12 Wherein were all manner of fourfooted beasts of the earth, and wild beasts, and creeping things, and fowls of the air.
Acts 10:13 And there came a voice to him, Rise, Peter; kill, and eat.
Acts 10:14 But Peter said, Not so, Lord; for I have never eaten any thing that is common or unclean.
Acts 10:15 And the voice spake unto him again the second time, What God hath cleansed, that call not thou common.

Rom 14:1 Now receive the one who is weak in the faith, and do not have disputes over differing opinions.
Rom 14:2 One person believes in eating everything, but the weak person eats only vegetables.
Thanks for respecting the op. Not surprised you just have to try and continue with your 'opinions.' Spiritual things are indeed spiritually discerned, but when such disregard for truth as exemplified by SDA doctrine shows up, it's no mystery that involves 3 days of fasting and prayer.

However, for the record, I will state that the spiritually discerning among us, recognize the demonic spirit behind SDA since this doctrine attempts to destroy the gospel of Jesus and replace it with works and attacks on actual Bible believing Christians who love Christ and follow Him.
You say she is a false prophet because she said we are to keep the Sabbath and post Romans 14 as proof that you are right. You done nothing to show how it is you came to your conclusion in respect to Romans 14 and the Sabbath. All you have done was make subjective comments with no Scriptural bases

As was stated to you before, Romans 14 does not mention the Sabbath and is not even about the Book of the Law. Please see the comments above your quote here, thanks.

God's People up to the end keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus which is the Spirit of prophecy. For it is God the works in us both to will and do His good pleasure. His Law is in our hearts and minds. His word through Christ is in our hearts and mouths. This is the word of faith in which we preach.
And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,
That I will pour out of My Spirit on all flesh;

Your old men shall dream dreams.

Rev 12:17 And the dragon was wroth with the woman, and went to make war with the remnant of her seed, which keep the commandments of God, and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.

Rev 19:10 And I fell at his feet to worship him. And he said unto me, See thou do it not: I am thy fellowservant, and of thy brethren that have the testimony of Jesus: worship God: for the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.

Acts 2:17 ‘And it shall come to pass in the last days, says God,

She never gave a date they were all studying the 2300 days in Daniel that God gave us to study so we can see where we are in time of His soon return. If God didn't want us to study it, it wouldn't be in our Bibles and He would says blessed to those who understand it. Rev1:3
As a matter of fact there was a lot of people besides Miller and Ellen's group who were thinking Jesus was coming then.

Yes, there was an estimated of 50K to 100K of people studying the timeline in Daniel with William Miller, from many denominations. People think it was EGW who was leading the whole thing, she was just 17 years old, it was by a Baptist minister, not EGW. This study gave a clear understanding of the 2300 days in Daniel which matches perfectly with Biblical and historical events. Its why it says in Revelation about understanding it

Rev 10:9 So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.”

And he said to me, “Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”

It was sweet in the mouth- Jesus is coming! These people loved the LORD and were earnestly studying the Bible trying to understand the 2300 day prophecy but it was bitter in the stomach because they misapplied the event of the prophecy Dan8:14. It still moved God's people forward as it opened up the little book and its understanding.

Its best to just let this roll off us, they have no idea what they are saying, God will sort it all out in His time.

Right back at you.

I find this type of conversation common. It's like an echo chamber when having a discussion most of the time. People only want to hear the echoes of their beliefs, and can't actually reflect on how a different opinion is actually plausible, or even acknowledge what is explained.

When trying to have a discussion, it's just goes to the abyss of nothingness. Then at the same time, the argument is restated with even more esteem. lol You are basically dealing with mainstream programming, I just don't see any communication, that really proves a discussion. It's basically just repetition, with the hopes of trying to aggravate people into leaving the discussion. Such as RRCN left, due to the realization, there will be no discussion, just counter points.

It's a one way conversation. Might stem from the Catholic roots, that many churches share in. lol It's possible anyways.

Tell that to the SDA's I've spoken to. If it's not in their actual doctrine, somebody should tell their members.

The assumption that somehow Rome can get America to mandate Sunday worship is absurd. The constitution forbids the church controlling the state. If anything, America is headed, like most of the once Christian world, towards Islam. Islam does not have a sabbath. The "Lord's day", being Sunday, replaced the Saturday sabbath well before Constantine legalised Christianity.

I detest Catholicism. However, I know sincere Catholics who are saved by grace. I wish that they would leave Catholicism but they have their reasons. I've met SDA who are also born again. My argument is with their false doctrines.

SDA arrogance appalls me. They consider themselves superior to those who over the centuries preached the gospel before SDA came on the scene. Many believers sacrificed much, worked hard and suffered a great deal to take the gospel to much of the world. And somehow they managed without the legalistic impositions of Adventist false doctrine.

SDA obsession with the sabbath, and the Law for that matter, is unbiblical. There is also nothing in the Bible to say that there is anything wrong with eating meat. It certainly is not a spiritual issue.

I have come across SDAs, that don't even believe what the church says, same goes with Baptist. So, not sure that holds a lot of weight.

If you don't think the Vatican has any influence in the U.S., you are tripping. Most of the Supreme Court Justices are Catholic along with, Nancy Pelosi, Gavin Newsom, Former President Joe Biden, J.D. Vance, and even Trump's wife. You also had Anthony Fauci (Catholic) dictating to the whole world how to live under Covid. Coincidene? Maybe? Then there is....Christmas, Easter, Halloween, St. Patrick's Day, not to mention many Federal businesses have Sunday off, but work on the Sabbath. Sunday Sabbath is a Catholic Law. All these national holidays are Catholic origin.

Would you believe the latest Vatican is American? Might be a sign there.. Who knows?

"Blue laws, also known as Sunday laws, are regulations that restrict certain activities on Sundays to promote rest or religious observance, with alcohol sales and retail operations being the most commonly affected."

Historical

"Blue laws in the U.S. date back to the colonial period, modeled after English laws to enforce the biblical commandment to “remember the Sabbath day and keep it holy”. Virginia enacted the first Sunday law in 1610, requiring attendance at church services, with penalties for noncompliance. Massachusetts followed in 1671, banning unnecessary work, travel, and recreational activities on Sundays. While often associated with Puritans, other religious groups, including Quakers, Catholics, and Anglicans, also implemented Sunday restrictions. The term "blue laws" likely refers to the 18th-century use of "blue" to describe prudish behavior, rather than the color of printed laws. "

I don't see SDA as arrogant, far from that. That are very active in their faith and pretty much live what they preach. They have quite the testimony. You will find many Christian Schools and some hospitals run by the SDA Church. Also, they are the second fastest growing church outside of America, which shows they are preaching the Gospel around the world. They also are in the forefront of health and well being and normally are pillars in the community for helping people in the medical field and among other areas of service.

They also have a testimony of keeping the Laws of God, which shouldn't be looked down upon.

Revelation 14:12
Here is the patience of the saints: here are they that keep the commandments of God, and the faith of Jesus.

Acts 21:10
As we were staying there for some days, a prophet named Agabus came down from Judea.

1 Corinthians 14:39
Therefore, my brethren, desire earnestly to prophesy, and do not forbid to speak in tongues.

Its interesting when someone goes by the name 'truthdefender' but then reject scripture. I guess it's their own personal truth they are defending. Typical of so many people.

Well then they are not actually SDAs or Baptists LOL!

Maybe not purist in some eyes, but both were elders in their associated churches. I think it's fair to have a different view on some topics of the church, but still be a full fledged member. You disagree?
