No. God actually had no intention of overthrowing Nineveh. That's my point. He sent His word to accomplish salvation. How do we know? We know because God's word always accomplishes its purpose, and salvation was the result. Ergo, God's purpose was not destruction, but deliverance.

It's really not that hard.
You are lying about God. He did intend to destroy Nineveh, but they repented, so God decided not to destroy Nineveh.

Nineveh repented upon hearing the warning. Bible does not say God put repentance into them.

You are denying what God’s original intention was, as declared in Jonah 3:4, 10.

But to affirm the truth of God’s Word here, one must accept the free will of humans and the fact that God responds to our choices.

Jonah 3

1 And the word of the Lord came unto Jonah the second time, saying,

2 Arise, go unto Nineveh, that great city, and preach unto it the preaching that I bid thee.

3 So Jonah arose, and went unto Nineveh, according to the word of the Lord. Now Nineveh was an exceeding great city of three days' journey.

4 And Jonah began to enter into the city a day's journey, and he cried, and said, Yet forty days, and Nineveh shall be overthrown.

5 So the people of Nineveh believed God, and proclaimed a fast, and put on sackcloth, from the greatest of them even to the least of them.

6 For word came unto the king of Nineveh, and he arose from his throne, and he laid his robe from him, and covered him with sackcloth, and sat in ashes.

7 And he caused it to be proclaimed and published through Nineveh by the decree of the king and his nobles, saying, Let neither man nor beast, herd nor flock, taste any thing: let them not feed, nor drink water:

8 But let man and beast be covered with sackcloth, and cry mightily unto God: yea, let them turn every one from his evil way, and from the violence that is in their hands.

9 Who can tell if God will turn and repent, and turn away from his fierce anger, that we perish not?

10 And God saw their works, that they turned from their evil way; and God repented of the evil, that he had said that he would do unto them; and he did it not.

Absolutely False. Thats like saying only ethnic jews will be conformed to the image of Gods Son Vs 29 reads

29 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.

In this context if Gentiles arent included they cant be conformed to image of Christ, we know thats a falsehood

It means Gentiles are exempt from the chain of salvation:

  • Whom He foreknew -He predestined
  • Whom He predestined - He called
  • Whom He called -He justified
  • Whom He justified - He glorified
Paul would later in the next chapter say Gentiles as vessels of Mercy are called Rom 9:23-24

23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,

24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

Its saying Gentiles wont be Justified as Jews will be , thats false from Rom 3:30

30 Seeing it is one God, which shall justify the circumcision by faith, and uncircumcision through faith.

This is a closed, unbroken loop. The exact same group of people passes through every single stage. If the "foreknown" are only Jews, then only Jews are predestined, only Jews are called, only Jews are justified, and only Jews are glorified. This would mean no Gentiles are justified or going to heaven, which is a massive heresy that completely denies the gospel.
Jesus was only sent to the Jews!

Look at what Paul states in the lead up to Romans 8:29-30.

Romans 8:3-4
For what the Law could not do, weak as it was through the flesh, God did: sending His own Son in the likeness of
sinful flesh and as an offering for sin, He condemned sin in the flesh, so that the requirement of the Law might be
fulfilled in us, who do not walk according to the flesh but according to the Spirit.

The Gentiles never had the law and knew nothing of that law in Rome.

Chapter 8 is not talking about the illiterate Gentiles in Rome.

Romans 29
For those whom He foreknew...

Can only be the Jews.

Because Paul is explaining the failure of Israel and why God has not forsaken the Jews.

Jesus was only sent to the Jews!
Okay and ? We talking about who are the foreknew ones in Rom 8:29. Its not exclusively jews. Its the called Rom 9:24

24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?

25 As he saith also in Osee, I will call them my people, which were not my people; and her beloved, which was not beloved.

26 And it shall come to pass, that in the place where it was said unto them, Ye are not my people; there shall they be called the children of the living God.

No he didnt
Yes he did; John called the people to repentance and a water baptism to prepare the way of the Lord.

When Jesus arrived the baptism formulae changed to a Spiritual baptism.

The Spiritual is always inward which in time reflects outward.

The shadow baptism is outward and in the flesh; I will obey and repent.

1 Peter 3:21
Corresponding to that, baptism now saves you—not the removal of dirt from the flesh, but an appeal to God for a
good conscience—through the resurrection of Jesus Christ.

You have an early misunderstanding in the Gospels and Acts of the true Baptism in the Holy Spirit and fire.

This is a very common misunderstanding and unfortunately still persists today.

1 Corinthians 1:17
For Christ did not send me to baptize, but to preach the gospel, not in cleverness of speech, so that the cross of Christ
would not be made void.

A water baptism is a one off external ritual that John the Baptist taught.

The water baptism is not the internal spiritual baptism which fulfilled John's baptism.

You are realizing you may be in error.

I think He intended for Jonah to go there and preach.
An eight-word sermon was the preaching God told Jonah to preach. This is clear.

You dont believe the witness of Christs resurrection either, for He was raised for our Justification Rom 4:25

25 Who was delivered for[because of] our offences, and was raised again for[because of] our justification.
His Resurrection is the evidence, testification that He put away the sins of those for whom He was delivered up for. So all for whom He died are legally Justified. That word Justification means dikaiósis:
. aquittal (for Christ's sake)

  1. the act of God declaring men free from guilt and acceptable to him
  2. [adjudging]1 to be righteous, justification

Do you have whiplash from riding a merry-go-round as a child?

I have news for you, a gospel without teaching particular effectual atonement, is no gospel ! Jesus was specific as to whom He died for Jn 10 Paul was specific about who Jesus died for Eoh 5:25 The Angel announced specifically who Jesus came to save Matt 1:21

And Jesus said it was finished Jn 19:30

Well, you in de beeg trooble then. Call 911

I am delighted to present to you a selection of the op's skilled and creative snappy comebacks to posts, others have made to him.
While there will not be a test, it might be astute of you to prepare responses indicative of acquaintance with scripture so as to
be able to aid him in this, possibly his darkest hour.

Then you have a faulty view of God.

I have news for you

You don't believe (choice of what you don't believe insert here)

The gospel is hid to the lost (my personal favorite)

Repent or else

Answer the question (he needs an answer; please help him)

You have a problem (generally because you are at odds with his false gospel)

You have a faulty view of God

Explain to me whats in the post of mine you just quoted (well I can't, but would you like to hear the Bible version of the gospel?)

You all over the place

Lol, nice try. The biblical word "overthrow" means to destroy. Sodom and Gomorrah were cities overthrown by God.

What I said? Was not meant to attack what you had been saying.
It was just meant as a side remark.

What we fail to see in this case...
Satan's grip on Nineveh was utterly destroyed by God.
Such a grip had been this city.
It is why Jonah hated the idea of even going there.

The people in that city had been utterly evil.
They used to place bets to see who could keep a captive alive the longest while skinning him alive.

Jonah hated that place!

Explain to me whats in the post of mine you just quoted. Do you understand t ?
so you wont answer because you don't know, O.K.
The story of Jonah and Nineveh debunks Calvinism big time. That's why I brought it up. Blessings.
the words of Jesus that many presented on this thread clearly debunk this man made theory or doctrine, if only they would read what jesus said, many have forgotten

@brightfame52 , I am not against you brother, I i don't care to be right or to win a point, but I do care about people I do care and want you to have the truth, not from me but from Jesus. he left us the gospels, mark, John, Luke and Matthew. His sayings, and He left many, all are true, understood and believed together will give eternal life if we love him we follow Him, on his Transfiguration a voice was heard from God;
While he was yet speaking, behold, a bright cloud overshadowed them: and behold, a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased; hear ye him. ( Matthew 17:5) please read the gospels again I and see for yourself t is all I ask.

Peace be with you, and you too @Magenta & @Cameron143, I like to tease sometimes but I love you all.

This time its my last on this thread, really, lol,

Rejoice the Lord is coming soon.

But men's choices never alter God's purpose.
Do you know what God's purpose is?

Some of it was reflected in Satan's wager concerning Job.

And the Lord said to Satan, “Have you considered my servant Job, that there is
none like him on the earth, a blameless and upright man, who fears God and
turns away from evil?” Then Satan answered the Lord and said, “Does Job fear
God for no reason? Have you not put a hedge around him and his house and all
that he has, on every side? You have blessed the work of his hands, and his
possessions have increased in the land. But stretch out your hand and touch all
that he has, and he will curse you to your face.” Job 1:8-11

What was going on there?
Why was Satan so focused on getting Job to curse the Lord to His face?

All that to simply curse the Lord?
Why so important?

Because, that was what Satan did (cursed the Lord) when the Lord took all away from Lucifer that he gloried in
and made him to hurt...
To hurt, in a desire to get Lucifer to repent and return to following God!

Up until then Satan had been using the excuse (probably for many years) before the angels, that they would have done the same thing if the Lord made them to hurt as the Lord had punished Satan. That Satan did no wrong!

Then?
Enter faithful servant Job!
Job's faithfulness refuted Satan's lie, and he could no longer lie with that excuse anymore!
For, Job suffered horrendously with undeserved pain that Job was recognizing came from God allowing for it.
And, yet!?
Job refused to curse The Lord to his face!

Then it happened!
Satan hid his face in shame and slithered away after Job did well in the eyes of God!

See! Do you really know what God's purpose is?

In Christ..... GeneZ
