Hi all, just interested in some points of view.

15 years ago, as a young new-born christian I asked God to reveal my wife to me in a dream. He did, in a powerful dream and then later in an open vision interpreting that dream (a few weeks later).

My question is (for those that actually believe that God speaks to His people today in these ways): do you think in showing me this person in a dream, that it is subject to change based on my choices? i.e if i chose a certain path that was possibly not in line with Gods will for a certain period of time, would or could the dream no longer apply now?

I do believe that at any point in a persons life that they can "get right with God" and be exposed to His perfect will, but in showing me this person, would you say that He knew the choices that I would make and in that factored it in and revealed this person based on that knowledge, or that because of my choices this opportunity could have been forfeited and now Gods best for me, as I pursue Him in a more pure way, would be different from the original design?

Cool question huh? :)

I had almost the same experience and I can say my disobedience to God made me lose the opportunity when I was presented with it as I was shown in the dream. Your case may be different though.

The whole idea of being "subject to change" is beyond the point here; God will not reveal your wife to you in a dream. I say this as a general statement, fully believing that He CAN do so, and possibly has to some people. But in generally, what benefit would there be to revealing that to you in advance? God loves everyone, but not everyone is a prophet. It's more likely that your dream was just you seeing what your subconscious wanted you to see, which is a much more common occurrence in dreams. Everyone also likes to think God speaks to them in dreams, but 99% of the time it's just a dream, and you need to get over yourself.

I disagree.

Good for you.

It is. God is sovereign and all-inclusive in my life, including my dreams, just like the beginning of time, where Joseph intérpreted the dreams of two men in prison, and, IF the Old Testament doesn't do it for you for enough proof...look at the New Testament, for God used that Joseph powerfully too --to safely get baby Jesus born, etc., 4 dreams in the first 2 chapters of Matt. or Mark, dreams dreamt by Joseph. Coming true dreams after Joseph was willing to listen to God .

Those two examples may not do it for you either, those things happened so long ago, you might say.
True, long time ago, and, I'd need to look up it up without paraphrasing, AAA+ , but the verse goes something (almost exact) to this: God is the dame today as He was yesterday as He will be forevermore.

* God is the same....forevermore.

But God's relationship with man changes; it has changed. In the beginning man walked with God; Man was separated from God; God chose specific, direct interactions with individuals; God died and entered man's heart.

As triple A stated, God certainly COULD, but the vast majority of the time people under the new covenant don't run into burning bushes, guiding stars, guiding smoke pillars or snakes disguised as rods. Now days God can and does use himself in others to show us His will (in addition to His word).

To me, discerning the source/meaning of dreams requires at least as much time and study as discerning God's will in the first place. It really requires a detailed understanding of who God is, who the devil is and enough self-insight to understand your own desires.

As for your biblical examples of dreams, they all seem to be cases where God stepped in with surgical precision to influence large numbers of people. Possible, sure, but rare enough that I certainly wouldn't accept it without a mountain of corroborating evidence. Especially since it seems to be future-predicting.

I know my personal relationship with God and I admit it does not happen all the time in my life but, rarely, yes, I see distinct direction for my life from my dreams, and...I encourage you, lightningapplause, to be a-looking and a-watching for God's movements, they are there wherever you go, even, yes, as I believe, and, have personally seen my dreams help me understand situations better that awake I could not truly see the understanding. If you are not on watch for God in your dreams, you're right like AAA+, you won't recognize His help for you in life from your dreams.

You're using two examples of very important Biblical figures. The OT Joseph was the father of an entire Godly nation and the premise for our entire relationship with God through Christ, so OF COURSE God spoke to him through dreams! The NT Joseph was the one who would raise up the Messiah, so clearly God would have to speak to him through dreams as well.

But every day you and me? Are we the fathers of nations? Are we going to do greater things than Joseph? Probably not. That is not to say that God doesn't still love us and care about us. Yes, we are very important to God. But why would He randomly reveal some random part of our lives to us in a dream, especially if it wasn't going to come for 15+ years? I think that He could do this, but why would He do it to you in particular? And I'm also not saying that God doesn't speak through dreams; He definitely does to a lot of people. But I think in this particular area (i.e. marriage) more people see what they want to see rather than what is actually being revealed.

Hmmm, I got the same dream, only mine wasn't in King James. Obviously one of us got it by accident. We will allow God to show His favor. Pistols at dawn in the lounge? :p

*while Green and Once shoot each other, Ugly sneaks off with Bridget... muahahahahahaaa

*green breaks out of his mild-looking attire into something green, shiny, and, of course, spandexy, and, with a green cape (different shade of suit).

Ugly, unhand that dame or prepare for SUPERGREEN :D

Probably to answer the original questions in the post you would actually have to first believe that God does still commnicate in dreams. Im really the only one that would know personally that it was from God, due to the many personal signs, and confirmations. My question isnt whether it was God, I know it was, but was do you think that due to my life choices, that even though I am now it an awesome place and being prepared for my wife to come very shortly, that the person shown in my dream to be my wife could now be null and void and that she is not able to be my wife now and that the person that is about to enter my life will be another, according to Gods will.
