Just to chat, and to investigate why Christians of all people are so concened about dating, romance, marraige, even sexuality. In my understanding, Christianity is a sanctuary from all these worldly messes, troubles, and temptations, not a gateway to more of them. You sign up and get baptized for a relationship with the Lord, for the salvation of your soul, for a peaceful state of mind. Put it in another way: you go to God for healing from broken relationships, bad relationships or no relationship at all. So far what I've seen is using the Lord's name in vain for carnal desires, and specifically, marriage is idolized, singleness is marginalized, even discriminated, to which I'm very disappointed.

If I have a mission statement, then it would be - "is Jesus your one and only or one of many?" The token of your faith is forsaking all worldly romance and marriage prospect to love him exclusively.
I wish you the best in what you see as your mission. 🙏🏼

The Bible has good things to say about marriage. It does not forbid people from getting married. In 1 Timothy 4 Paul actually condemns people who forbid marriage.

Again consider the entirety of 1 Corinthians 7. Here, Paul says he has no "commandment from God" about this. Paul says that he wishes that everyone was single like him ── not that God wishes it. He says that he, personally, is content with being single ── but he admits that not everyone is like that. He says that it's good to stay single, but that it's better to marry if you have strong desires. Paul "supposes" that it's better to stay single because of "the present distress," some crisis that the church in Corinth was dealing with at the time. He says you're not sinning by marrying. Paul says a widow would be happier if she stayed single, but he admits that this is just a personal opinion. Evidently, many people are not happier being single. In 1 Timothy 4:1-3 Paul also condemns people who forbid marriage. And if Paul wrote the Book of Hebrews, then he also said that marriage is a good thing.

Nowhere in the Bible do we see a command for Christians to avoid marriage entirely.

The desires for romance/marriage/sex are normal parts of being human. Nowhere does the Bible condemn these. Though we can certainly fulfill these desires in sinful ways, yes.

But where in the Bible is it stated that the "true Christian" is required to stay single?

When people are single but dont wish to be..,
They spend a LOT of time ruminating about finding "the one" who will solve so many of their perceived issues....
And they ruminate constantly about this to the point that it flavors their entire existence. They are "on the hunt" as if this is their whole life purpose and meaning. Not exactly healthy for sure....
But not wrong either.

And somehow married couples who got divorced or are in process have forgotten about how hard they looked for "the one".....not always but quite often. Sometimes that desperation to find the one leads them to find a nightmare....

However, two people coming together as one? Not exactly easy....lots of rough edges to smooth over....and that passion to find the one can lead to overcoming the rough stuff...or hedging the day to day life stuff that stops us from being of service to our spouses which can lead to unhealthy space between the two.

1 Cor. 6:12.

Then go and sin no more, Jn. 8:11.

1 Cor. 6:12.

There is no command here for Christians to stay single.

Then go and sin no more, Jn. 8:11.

Uh, OK? When did I encourage anyone to sin?

Where in the Bible is it stated that the "true Christian" is required to get married? Was Lord Jesus Christ a true Christian? Was apostle Paul a true Christian?

You didn't answer my question. And I never said anyone was required to get married, or that marriage makes you a "true Christian."

There is no command here for Christians to stay single.
Alright, go ask God for a husband or wife.
Uh, OK? When did I encourage anyone to sin?
When did you encourage anyone to date?
You didn't answer my question. And i never said anyone was required to get married, or that marriages makes you a "true Christian."
Answer my questions first - Was Lord Jesus Christ a true Christian? Was apostle Paul a true Christian? And did the bible say that we should follow their examples?

Alright, go ask God for a husband or wife.

I thought you were against that.

When did you encourage anyone to date?

Huh? Oh, right, you think dating is sinful.

Answer my questions first - Was Lord Jesus Christ a true Christian? Was apostle Paul a true Christian? And did the Bible say that we should follow their examples?

Presumably, you mean that we should follow their examples when it comes to staying single. Even though the Bible nowhere requires this. Both Jesus and Paul taught about singleness. But, in those teachings, they did not require it.

Neither Jesus nor Paul ever ate a tomato, either. Should we stick to their example when it comes to the issue of tomatoes?

Who am I telling you what to do? Go ahead, see what happens, see if he answers.

I think it's asking for scam or trouble at worst, a waste of time and money at best.

Presumably, that's stated in 1 Cor. 11:1.

For a brief moment, it looked like this conversation might be in danger of morphing into a regular conversation!

Quite a feat, especially since this roundabout has already gone for 43 pages in another thread, and has now turned into another 14 pages -- and going -- here.

I can see there's no concerns about this show ever ending.

Whew!!

For a minute there, I was worried. 😢

Oh. So you're not telling people what to do. Interesting. Also, judging by the large number of married Christians, it seems that God, perhaps, does answer.

I think it's asking for scam or trouble at worst, a waste of time and money at best.

Then why do so many Christians get married, and enjoy happy marriages?

Presumably, that's stated in 1 Cor. 11:1.

Does Paul mention singleness in this part of 1 Corinthians? No. Paul here knows that he's following Jesus, so he tells the Corinthians to imitate his "walk," if you will, with Jesus. He knew the Christians in Corinth needed examples, and he was willing to be such an example. And, of course, when you get to Chapter 7, you'll find that Paul does not, in fact, command people to stay single.

How do you know that? Were they all equally yoked with godly partners? There're also large number of married non-Christians, did God answer them as well?

We're talking about singles, not married couples.

Alright, thin wallet and screen addiction command people to stay single.

The reason this is such a unique accomplishment is because the main conversation is being carried on by just 3 people.

Sure, a few other players step in here and there, but it's been fascinating to see each of the 3 go into deep dives about their beliefs and experiences.

We have a few other legendary threads that have gone on for umpteen pages, but usually it's because they're carried on by a multitude of people across varying time spans.

But with only 3 people? Usually those threads last for around 6 pages? Sometimes more, but they also usually involve posting pictures or memes.

And so I'm mesmerized at how long this 3-legged conversation can keep going -- and I mean that sincerely.

When/if it does end, it's really going to feel like something is missing from my daily reading! 📚🎒📖

Take it easy, it's just rambling.

Do you know that all the Christian marriages were a dreadful mistake? How many married Christian do you even personally know, in the first place? I'm single but I know plenty of happily married Christian couples who've shared their lives and friendships with me. Believe it or not, this can give you some insights into married life. Crazy, I know!

We're talking about singles, not married couples.

But you said marriage is "scam," "trouble," and a "waste of time." Why are you so sure, when you're personally single, and when you, apparently, personally don't know any married couples in real life?

Alright, thin wallet and screen addiction command people to stay single.

Oh. But the Bible doesn't? Interesting.

Yeah, that insight clearly shows me the current social system exceptionally penalizes married couples with huge burdens, aka "trouble in the flesh", Christian or not.

How do you know I don't? Where do you think I came from?
Oh. But the Bible doesn't? Interesting.
Jesus and Paul were single, imitate Jesus, imitate Paul, 1 Cor. 11:1.

Scripture never pits marriage against singleness; it presents both as holy paths. Marriage is God’s creation for most people. Singleness is God’s gift for some people. The question is not which is better, but which grace God has given you.

Oh. Alright, then! This world is filled with diverse perspectives, after all!

How do you know I don't? Where do you think I came from?

So you do, in fact, have close friendships with Christian married couples?

Jesus and Paul were single, imitate Jesus, imitate Paul, 1 Cor. 11:1.

That leaves out a lot of things that both Jesus and Paul preached on this very issue. 1 Corinthians 11 isn't even about marriage/singleness. You have to read Chapter 7 for that.

Take it easy, it's just rambling.

Lol!

Most chatter on the forum is rambling -- at least, all of my posts are!

But seeing 3 people carry on for 57 pages (combining the 2 threads) and still going -- all about the same topic and never changing -- now that's an accomplishment! 🥇

That's not a criticism in any way.

As I've said, I'm rather enjoying it. :)

So you do, in fact, have close friendships with Christian married couples?
Unlike you, folks around here respect other's privacy, what and how they're doing in their marriage is between themselves. It's not like they're cheating or the bride was sex trafficked or they have demostic violence or something, who am I to judge?

You didn't ask for that "a lot of things," you asked me to answer your question, which I did.
