Hey Everyone,

Some chatter in the forum this morning has inspired me to ask other singles to share some of their "best" memories/things they've seen during their time on CC. It doesn't have to specifically be from things here in Singles, but from what I've seen, this section seems to get more than its fare share of drama! 😆

"Tales From the Crypt" ain't got nothin' on the "Tales From the Singles Forum" that some of us have seen over the years!

While I normally invite our married friends to post, I'd like to please ask for grace to allow us singles to vent a little frustration. Of course, it's a public place and everyone can post -- but may I ask for some understanding of the discouragement we singles feel.

So...

* What are some of the most memorable things YOU'VE seen here -- in Singles or here on CC -- whether you've been here a day or a decade?

The goal here is to have hopefully share some meaningful or lighthearted stories, though serious posts are also welcome.

I'm not meaning for the tone of this thread to be overly critical or to put down anyone's ideas, but I'm hoping to add a little balance to topics that are often discussed from mostly one side.

Some of my own favorites from my time here in Singles (and if I'm remembering things wrong, feel free to correct me):

1. The young man who kept writing about wanting to find a "Super Shy Wife."

While on the surface, this might seem sweet -- but it came out that what he really wanted was a prisoner whom he thought would eternally adore him and be controlled. He didn't want her to work, have friends, or ever leave the house, but to only ever focus on him. He thought that keeping her away from everyone was the only way to keep her loving him, and only him, forever.

He kept getting banned (I can't remember specifically why,) repeatedly came back under "new" names, but was always writing the same thing.

I'm not trying to criticize, but to me, his threads were a good lesson in red flags for people (whether male or female) who want to possess someone rather than love them.

And when someone is so obsessed about controlling every aspect of someone else's life and behavior -- you have to wonder what they are doing with their own.

2. The time when a band of men in their 50's and 60's strongly advocated giving up on "evil" Western women to find Asian brides in their 20's with "traditional values" as the fairytale solution. I know this is still a popular ideal today, as I'm in finance chats with a lot of men who all champion this. Many talk about going to Asia and basically setting up harems.

While I certainly understand the thinking and frustrations with modern feminism, I don't want to see Singles turn into linear MGTOW vs. Feminist thinking. The thing that bothered me about this topic was that it was never spoken of in realistic terms.

Over the years, I've been around several international couples, and while I'm no expert, I think these conversations gloss over the fact that you can't find someone (male or female) in another country with "traditional values" -- then think you can cut them off from the family that gave them those traditional values.

I know it's different for different people, but I've seen up close the heartache, expectations, and vast amounts of money it takes to keep international couples going (travel to visit both families; cultural expectations involving financial support, etc.) If a man thinks it's expensive to keep a Western woman happy, just wait until he finds out what it takes to please a foreign bride with an entire family that might expect him to support them (not to mention the trips to see her family or bring them here.)

I've also seen situations where couples got married in one country (imagine finally getting married, thinking you're finally going to get the emotional, spiritual, and sexual support you've been looking for your whole life,) only to be forced to separate by expiring visa's or other regulations -- then not knowing when, or if, you'll ever be reunited again. Be prepared to have at least a small fortune ready to go, because that's what it will likely cost in various fees to finally be in the same country. And this is marriage, so it's not like you can just give up and look for someone else.

It's an important topic, for sure -- but all I ask for is if people are going to look for their dream spouses overseas, let's talk about it in a way that reflects reality, not a magical panacea to escape the scourge of "modern women" and find your dream girl.

3. The myriad of sometimes well-intentioned people who come through Singles, always assuming we need "correction" -- because surely all we singles do is go out drinking, partying, and fornicating every weekend!!

How many times have we Singles been given lessons here in the forums about what we should or should not be doing -- because certainly not a single one of us is a God-fearing adult trying their best, just like anyone else, to live a God-fearing life! 😂

NNNNOOOOOO.

Why, we Singles would all be lost if not for the plethora Self-Appointed Preachers and Prophets we get here always trying to save us!

Now I'm certainly not trying to say there isn't a need for correction at times. Rather, it's the automatic assumption that bothers me. The typical zero-attempts-at-all to get to know the people here, but rather, just jumping in and handing out do's and don't by the dozens because it's just assumed we're all doing something wrong.

All I'm asking is, if people are going to preach to singles about unholy living -- be sure to balance it out by preaching to everyone else in the crowd as well. If someone wants to "lay down the law" here in Singles -- I expect to do them doing the same thing in Family to the marrieds -- or I can't take them very seriously.

Because along with all the "lessons" correcting us singles over the years, we've also seen hundreds, if not thousands of posts from married people asking for help because of all of the same kinds of problems (drinking, drugs, lust, pornography, impure thoughts and actions) we singles are automatically assumed to be doing.

Why don't we see all the same Self-Appointed People of God setting themselves up for business in the Family Forum?

I just wish that correction could be kept in balance, acknowledging that all have fallen short of the glory of God -- and everyone, not just singles, needs the reminders.

But that's just me.

One thing is for sure, whenever we get people like this, it makes me all the more thankful for the people we DO get here -- whether single or married -- who are loving, compassionate, truthful but without condescending, and humble enough to see themselves as being no better than the next sinner saved by grace, whether single or married.

But I've droned on long enough.

What about you?

What are some of the observations you've made as a single -- the good, the bad, and the downright ugly -- that stand out most to you?

Ah bingbing. Or was it bingbingbing? It was more than one bing, I know that. Kept making up fantasies about me.

One of my favorite things that ever happened on the forum was when Moses sat down and actually explained what flat earthers believe, instead of just yelling a lot like most of them do. That was genuinely interesting. I didn't believe a word of it was accurate, but I liked understanding what he actually believed, as opposed to what people thought he believed.

I remember one lady, but I forget her user name. She had a pair of boots as her avatar. We had a disagreement about something, but instead of yelling at me about it she met me in a live chat so we could talk about it. That was pretty neat. Ya don't see that very often.

I want to add another memory I have from another part of the forum...

Lately I have been thinking a lot about self-appointed preachers and prophets -- not just because of recent posts, but also because of things I've been reading and seeing elsewhere (I've told my CC friends here that I've really, really been wanting to write a thread about it for a very long time... but I know it will probably be a lightning rod for controversy so I'm being extra cautious in how I want to word it.)

A long time ago, we had someone here (one out of many over the years,) who claimed to be a modern-day prophet.

He kept a running thread of all his prophecies that he claimed God had given him -- along with reports of when and how they came true.

Somewhere along the line, he came into conflict with the administration here on the site -- I can't remember exactly what it was (and if anyone does remember, feel free to correct me.)

But what I do remember is that he offered money as a solution, offering to pay the site however much it would take to keep his "prophecies" displayed in the forums. (He wrote this publicly for everyone to see, which is the only reason I knew about it.)

Maybe I'm just a tad too judgmental in saying this -- but anyone who insists that they and their "prophecies" are so important that bribes have to be offered to keep them up -- just might not be from the Lord.

I remember when streams was the default news updates for all your favorite forum friends thread.

I remember the one we called non feminist wife guy who wrote a post about exactly what he wanted rhis non feminist wife to be like that was so pompous and my way or the highway that you knew no one with half a brain would be applying for the position.

And I remember making up some very creative posts of reasons to date me or reasons we're still single. Those were fun.

Those Krazy Kristians!

🤣

I'm curious who this Moses person was. Did he believe he actually was Moses??? Did he witness the parting of the Red Sea? Or did he call it 'the sea of reeds' which was only like a really shallow estuary which anyone could walk through as the water was only up to their ankles?

I'm sorry, but this made me laugh so hard!! 😆

This is something not talked about enough -- when singles become a target.

We used to talk about it here every now and then -- maybe it's time for a fresh thread about the subject.

I've written about this a few times but I've only used the Ignore function maybe 3 times, and once was when a married man publicly expressed interest in me here on the forum.

This was a major breakthrough in how I discovered that writing threads is my best defense -- at first, I just put him on Ignore. But, after some thought, I wrote a thread asking what other singles do when someone married hits on them.

I never mentioned his name. But he obviously knew it was about him and showed up in the thread -- and he was hopping mad.

Shortly after that, he left, and who knows if he's been back under another name or not -- but all I can say was, it was effective.

And, I totally agree with you @Lynx -- finding people who can state a different idea respectfully -- are very rare, and, I feel, very much deserving of at least being heard out.

There are several people here I might disagree with on some -- or several points (including Lynx!! which is a long-standing joke between us,) -- but I greatly admire other things about them, so I can't help but want to be friends with them anyway (if they're willing to accept MY oddities in return.) 🤪

No, Moses was only part of his nick. I forget the other half.

I remember threads in which people would all act like someone else on the forum!! 😁

People would take each other's avatars and it was super confusing because let's say there was Person A, who always had a heart avatar.

Well all of a sudden, Person B came along with that same heart avatar and it was like, "WHOA! Now I actually have to READ the NAME by each avatar to figure out who's saying what!" (instead of just seeing the avatar and assuming who it was.)

It was ESPECIALLY confusing if real pictures were being used!

And we've also had threads such as, "Guess Who I Am?"

Catherder wrote an entire of block of nothing but literal "Blah blah blah blah," and asked, Guess Who I Am???

And guess who he was imitating?

ME!! 🤣

It was hilarious!!

Nowadays, we couldn't get away with that because we don't have as much of a regular crowd, and we don't know each other well enough to avoid offending anyone.

But it sure was a hoot at the time! :D

I remember when there was a Singles room in the live chat...

And one night, a mod came in and asked each person there individually if we were single, so we all had to state, or type, publicly, that we were.

She explained that they were having problems with married people coming into singles but trying to pass themselves off as single.

Of course, it wasn't foolproof -- anyone could lie -- but I appreciate that they were looking out for the community.

(And I'm NOT in any way saying that singles are always the innocent party because we all know better -- but it's one of the reasons why I try to be VERY careful about creating threads in which marrieds and singles can interact, but not cross lines.)

Sometimes on Singles I feel like I've stumbled into a RPG or a comic con.

Like the avatars of some people are all Lord of the Rings characters, and Narnia, or Star Wars or whatever.

Does everyone cosplay online?? Who are these people? Are they actors, or do they actually believe or role play whoever they name themselves?

I remember Moses quite well. He hasn't been on for at least a year. Even though he was a flat-liner I miss the guy.

One of my favorite threads ever here in Singles was by Fenner (I miss her!)

She was a married friend who used to hang out with us here, and one year she wrote a a thread about what Valentine's Day was like as a married person.

For her, it was pretty much just a regular day. But this was exactly what she wanted to get across, that marriage (from her perspective) was routine everyday life with obligations and chores -- not rainbows and romance, like some might dream of when we're single for a long time.

I appreciated that she took the time to talk to us singles about what married life was really like rather than the fantasy we sometimes have.

And what I loved even more was that she did it all while being our friend, without ever talking down to people here.

Oh it didn't take long to figure out who ran the show in the singles forum!

😆😆😆
Why, @Lynx, of course!

I'm just one of his minions. 😎😬🤪

Lol.

I remember some times when people said I "ran Singles like a clique."

What I think they really meant was, like a cult. 😎 😇

But the truth is, anyone could "run" whatever part of the forum they wanted -- like anything else in life, it just takes putting in the time and effort. Put in enough time and effort and you get to know people; get to know people and you'll have familiars you're bantering with regularly; joking with people regularly gives the illusion that you're somehow a prominent figure here.

But anyone can do it.

Charlesiii proved that with his foreskin thread!!! That one thread far outdid anything I've ever written -- combined.

For me, it really boils down to what some might say is having no life, but I see it as, corresponding with people has always been my favorite hobby.

People have all kinds of different hobbies and interests they pour hours of time and work into; I've just done all that with CC.

And, you can see the results. 😎

(I can neither confirm nor deny my cult leader status.)
