Agree 100% with Lynx. Well said about Dino and his intents.

Is this guy like the pope around here or something?

Ya'll not preying to this guy or "venerating" him like the catholics do with Mary are you?

Seems some have this guy up on a pedestal

Some wise thoughts here: one thing I would like to add to (comment on) is the thought that "the natural result is that you become obedient to God and able to resist sin . . ." While this may be true to some extent, I think one needs to be careful that it is not taken too far . . . Yes, when we become a believer we are a new creature immediately and the Holy Spirit lives in us and helps us to live above sin! At the same time, it takes effort, and actually a lot of effort, and hard work to be obedient and to live above sin. Too many Christians drift along in life, get caught in sin patterns, and wind up doing little for the Kingdom of God.

The Holy Spirit does make it easier though - Jesus said His burden is light and from my own experience of abiding in God, it is true what He says. We were never meant to try to obey Him or resist sin without the Holy Spirit.

When you start submitting to Him, it's a little awkward, but you get better at letting Him change you and not resist the work He's doing in your life.

The Gospel, Is simply the "GOOD NEWS" of JESUS paying our debt as opposed to a system of LAWS, ORDINANCES, etc....by HIS ultimate sacrifice and payment in full..at the cross.....
I trust what your thread implies, is that what and old church I attended used to say " A GOSPEL THAT HASN'T CHANGED YOU, HASN'T SAVED YOU"
but, if your intent is to burden believers with some sort of adherence to old testament rule keeping then I would strongly disagree...
the Olivet Discourse, Mat. 24, says that at the time of the end, MOST PEOPLE WILL FALL AWAY... I would suggest we are nearing that very time frame.
THE BATTLE RAGES TIL THE LION SOON ROARS!!!!

Christ did so much more an said so much more, some people limit themselves to paul's epistles and that is a mistake.
it is why people will fall away for forgetting or rejecting what Christ actually said and that is their fault. but you are right that we are in the end times prophecies co converge at this time it is evident we are in the end times.

Overreaction much?

I disagree with you about Dino. You escalate it to me worshipping Dino.

You are weird. Like, really weird. But that's cool. We get a lot of weird around here.

I'm not the one putting men up on a pedestal as though they are like God.

I experienced that sort of thing as a young believer when I attended a church for a few years where they literally idolized the pastors as though what they said was on the level of scripture. When people had problems they would make an appointment with the pastors for guidance in their lives rather than allowing the Lord to lead and guide them based in scripture.

Then as I grew in studying God's Word for myself I found out these people were heavily influenced by reformed theology even as they claimed to not have anything to do with reformed theology. These were heretics who did not accept much of what the Lord teaches in His Word.

Yeah so I'm not a big fan of the "oh my this person is so wonderful, you just don't know how wonderful this person really is, they are great!" sorta thing as it's one off satan's tricks to deceive people.

And I'm not a big fan of anybody who so hastily and blatantly slams anybody who disagrees with him.

By their fruits shall ye know them, and all that... Your fruit is pretty sour.

Again, he's either a baby Christian that does not know the answer to the questions he is posing or he's preparing to argue against living in obedience to the Lord as scripture prescribes.
Or he is genuinely asking what YOU mean by YOUR assertions and is giving you the opportunity to answer for yourself instead of making assumptions about your beliefs.

Did you notice? I haven't said anything about what you think about the main topic of this thread. I don't care what you think about it. For that matter I don't care what Dino thinks about it.

What I objected to was your casual dismissal of a brother in Christ, in a way that showed you really don't know who you're talking about. That's the only reason I chipped in.

If you studied God's word as much as you said you have, you would have seen a LOT of verses that directly contradict such things as you have said about many people on the forum.

Your misrepresentation of Lynx's comments amount to blatant lying. At least your fleshly character is on full display so we know to disregard you.

Hebrews 5:9 - And being made perfect, He became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey Him

I always wonder how people continue to believe they are saved anyway if they aren't obedient to the Lord.

Some come right out and say that obedience is not required for salvation even though that's not what the Word of the Lord says.

Apparently this is further proof that some among us openly reject some things the Lord says as they walk in disobedience.

God requires obedience as Hebrews 5:9 states.

(KJV Romans 6:16) "Know ye not, that to whom ye yield yourselves servants to obey, his servants ye are to whom ye obey; whether of sin unto death, or of obedience unto righteousness?"

(KJV Hebrews 12:14) "Follow peace with all men, and holiness, without which no man shall see the Lord:"

(KJV Ephesians 2:8-10) "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: Not of works, lest any man should boast. For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them."

(KJV Titus 2:11-12) "For the grace of God that bringeth salvation hath appeared to all men, Teaching us that, denying ungodliness and worldly lusts, we should live soberly, righteously, and godly, in this present world;"

(KJV Romans 5:21) "That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord."

(KJV Romans 6:23) "For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord."

God requires obedience as Hebrews 5:9 states.

Yes, and it's so sad that most Christians don't know the Lord provided the Holy Spirit and the power of His Word that enables us to walk in obedience

They wouldn't know since they are all too bust arguing against obedience to the Lord which is an ear mark of someone who is walking in obedience to the devil who always opposes obedience to the Lord which is what he has taught these people through the carnal religious traditions of men .

I'm with you, @Lynx

Like what are they not obedient to the Lord in? Drinking, drugs, porn?

Hebrews 5:9 does not teach salvation‑by‑obedience; it teaches salvation‑that‑produces‑obedience.
In regard to Hebrews 5:9, I often hear works-salvationists cite this verse in an effort to try and support salvation by works based on the merits of their alleged obedience. Now only believers have obeyed Him by choosing to believe the gospel (Romans 1:16) in order to become saved, and only believers obey Him after they have been saved through faith by practicing righteousness and not sin. (1 John 3:9,10)

In either sense, only believers obey Him.

Unbelievers/make believers have not obeyed Him by refusing to believe the gospel (Romans 10:16) and without faith it's impossible to please God (Hebrews 11:6), so unbelievers/make believers do not obey Him no matter how much "so called" obedience that they attempt to conjure up from an unregenerate heart in a vain effort to receive salvation by works. (Matthew 7:22-23)

In either sense, unbelievers do not obey Him.

I should have written my response as thus, Hebrews 5:9 does not teach that obedience merits salvation. Rather, Christ is the source of eternal salvation for those who obey Him, and the first act of that obedience is faith in the gospel. Any subsequent obedience flows from that faith rather than earning salvation. That version avoids the potential criticism that the text's obedience language is being narrowed too much while still rejecting the idea that human works purchase salvation.

I hate it when people don’t obey the law of gravity. It really irks me
It irks me when I am running down the road and my head falls off. I suppose a deeper explanation would be needed to understand that . That being said, you want to expand on that comment?
