Anyone else like herbal teas of the alternative medicine variety? :)

I've been on the search for something that will keep my mind alert without tiring out my sensitive adrenals.

The caffeine in green tea is mild enough for me, but it still gives me insomnia sometimes.

Would you consider things other than teas?

I know that Yellow Dock and L-Arginine are both things that your body can sometimes need and they have both helped me tremendously with being alert and keeping my brain going. I'll look into some things and get back to you with more info. ;)

  • Gingko Biloba - Improves blood circulation in the brain and acts as a powerful antioxidant. Improved circulation betters memory and cognitive functions of the brain. The antioxidant properties delays onset of Alzheimer's and dementia.
  • Ginseng - Improves memory and mental alertness. It also strengthens the body immune system and better equips the body to fight against stressors.
  • Gotu Kola - Counteracts anxiety and tension, and induces clarity in thought processes. It is used in treatment of insomnia. Aside from the brain, Gotu Kola also has beneficial properties in treating skin ailments and circulatory disorders.
  • Passion Flower - It has marked anxiety reduction properties and can combat mood swings and imbalances. Passion flower is also used for management of ADHD and insomnia.
  • Oatstraw - Has been found to possess excellent restorative and nourishing properties that help to improve concentration skills for both adult and children.
  • Skullcap - Superb nourishment for the brain and acts as an efficient antidepressant.
  • Rose and Lavender - Helps control anxiety, depression.
  • Rose Hips - Has been found to be very useful with children in management of Attention Deficit Disorder.
  • Chamomile - Has sedative properties and is particularly useful with children.
  • Rosemary - Is a stress reliever and anti-depressant. Also acts to improve concentration and memory.
These are just a few things that I know of. Also, if you start taking Cod Liver Oil on a daily basis, that should also help. I just take it in capsules 'cause......well let's be honest, it's gross. ^_^

Hmm, never heard of that. I'll look into it, thanks! :)

I am currently experimenting with ginkgo tea, it's awesome. And I have tried gotu kola tea (it tastes like cow food but it clears my head so I like it!).

I haven't heard of some of these. Good to have a list of new possible herbs to research. This will be fun. :p Thanks!

Which of course causes the rest of us to wonder how you know what cow food tastes like.

I haven't actually tasted cow food. :p But the tea is bitter and it tastes and smells like what the inside of a cow's barn smells like....minus the poop.

Okay, I have a really funny, clean joke!

While crossing the US-Mexican border on his bicycle, the man was stopped by a guard who pointed to two sacks the man had on his shoulders.
"What's in the bags?", asked the guard.
"Sand," said the cyclist.
"Get them off, so we can take a look," said the guard.
The Cyclist did as he was told, emptied the bags, and proving they contained nothing but sand, reloaded the bags, put them on his shoulders and continued across the border. Two weeks later, the same thing happened. Again the guard demanded to see the two bags, which again contained nothing but sand. This went on every week for six months, until one day the cyclist with the sand bags failed to appear.
A few days later, the guard happened to meet the cyclist downtown.
"Say friend, you sure had us going crazy", said the guard. "We knew you were smuggling something across the border. I won't say a word - but what is it you were smuggling?"

"Bicycles!"

I love this joke, but then again, I can have a cheesy sense of humor at times.
The only way to get through this life is to laugh anyway. the world is so tough, if we couldn't have a little humor, it would eat us up.

Oh, by the way, pray for my family. Especially my grandmother. She's getting older and is in good health right now, but it's a roller coaster every day. My family could use a little strength too. We all take turns, so she has someone with her constantly and I'm working ten hour shifts from 8 pm-6 am, watching her while she sleeps. It's tiring, but with God we can do all things. Thanks!

Beats me as to why everyone else uses them, but I've used a wolf avatar ever since I joined here. Wolves have always fascinated me and as a species they have always gotten a bad rap from humans. They are fiercely loyal among family, one of the few canine species that mate for life, and likewise one of the few canine species that the father helps raise his young.

So eehh well what can I share? Mexico won against Japan and we are (''we''because I'm part of the team of course) competing for the gold against Brasil :D!
I remember when I stayed in Compeche (Is that how you spell it?) area of Mexico during 2004 I think it was. I forget what the town was called, but it was a little oil rig island on the southern end of the Gulf. It was definitely beautiful, and even though I was probably the only American most of them have ever seen before that, they were all extremely nice to me, and most didn't even care that I couldn't speak a word of Spanish lol. Sign language helps a lot in that case too.

Anyways, aside from all the fun in the sun, and fun in the monsoon season rain, I remember the World Cup was going on, and that was the year USA beat Mexico. I'm not a big soccer (or futbol, whateverrrrr) fan, but who isn't during the World Cup while you're staying in Mexico? Anyway, I'm PRETTY SURE I'm lucky to be alive right now, since while they were chanting "MEXICO, MEXICO" throughout the game, I was chanting "USA, USA" at the end of it. They were NOT happy with me lol.

Oh, and I've never seen a town literally shut down like it did during the World Cup that year. Nobody was in the streets, and nobody was doing anything but watching that game. I was told later that a lot of them had plans to jump me after the game, but they decided they liked me too much to do that to me lol. I guess I'm lucky for that. Sometimes it's probably better to NOT know the local language, specifically since I didn't know a thing until I was told later.
