Hello everyone,
I'm very sad to say that I am just about to end a long-term relationship. I don't want to at all, but have chosen to because I have no more to put into the relationship. Sigh. Tonight is my last night with my beloved but needs-a-lot-of-repairs PT Cruiser.
I remember the day I found her. I had a strong idea of what I wanted in a car. I hadn't even really considered her, to be honest. When I had first seen PT Cruisers, I thought they were downright ugly!! But alas, I came to find that the way she was totally went together in expressing a big part of my personality. She wasn't the color I wanted at all, but I came to love her very unique coloring (Marine Pearl Blue) and over time, I came to really love her. I eventually loved the fact that she was so different and was glad I didn't go with the more popular but common color I first wanted.
In shopping for a new car, I've found myself compromising even more. What I wanted was a Volkswagon Beetle, again in a very specific color. But one experience with that car and I both fell in love and had my heart broken, all within the a five-mile test drive. You see, beautiful as that car was, and as much as I had hoped to get one, I couldn't see out of it. Maybe it was because of my height and the shape of the windows, but I could barely even see more than than the back seat in the rear view mirror.
Now, I could try to convince myself that I "could adjust and adapt", but living in a new area with ten times more traffic is not worth the gamble. I was having problems with blind spots even on the abandoned part of the road during the test drive. I did not feel safe in that car. BUT SHE WAS SO BEAUTIFUL. It was so hard to get up and walk away.
And so, I decided to choose something else. It's not what I originally planned. It's not the color I wanted. It doesn't look the way I thought it might look. But it has a good warranty, gets good mileage, makes me feel much safer, and will keep me more secure over the long haul.
Does God work the same way in helping us find a spouse? Maybe that person will be a totally different color or ethnicity than we ever could have imagined. Maybe his or her body won't be as sparkly or in quite the same shape as we think we'll be attracted to. And maybe they won't have all the "beeps and whistles" we first wrote down on our "must have" list.
But what if God knows that different color, shape, and package will be exactly what we need, and not necessarily what we want? (I have a friend who tells me that all the time: "God won't necessarily give you want--He'll give you what He knows you need.")
How many of us are not married to someone God may have very well given the thumbs up to simply because we are unwilling to compromise on color, size, and packaging?
As usual, the poll is anonymous and multiple choice.
