Hmm... I'm curious what could be percieved as training.

If I show them how to clear their snorkel, so you don't get a lung full of seawater, is that training?

If I take them skiing and they conquer their fear of heights, is that training?

Not even close to that, Liamson. :)

I'm talking about pavlovianesque training, using an emotional shock collar.

Uhm, do I want to ask how this got added to your list?????????

I'm curious too.

Don't get me wrong, I've seen specials on Dateline NBC about crazy Hubbies who treat their wife/wives like a cult leader.

But that would mean training was something like, "Make me a sandwich or else it gets the hose again."

Personal experience, my friend.

Some guys, even some who call themselves Christians, think little more of women than they do pets or pieces of furniture and seem stunned to learn that sort of behavior is unacceptable. Some women never see it coming or make the mistake of marrying them first. Thankfully, God was faithful in alerting and protecting me before it ever went that far.

I've never met a man who was stupid enough to hit me, but I've met some who felt they could use "love" as a rod. I overestimated their reasoning capabilities and they overestimated their importance in my life and the protecting, loving hand of my God.

Deal breakers.
1.Not a Christian.
2.Drug/alcohol/prescription drug/"recreational" drug addictions.
3.Pentecostal/charasmatic.

I am curious about the highlighted one. A deal breaker is someone who is Pentecostal?
Are they worshiping some other god than you are? Just wondering the reason behind
this. If it is because of their belief in the "Holy Spirit", that is quite a few religions that
have that belief and it majorly narrows down the amount of women you interact with
who you are willing to allow God to place in your life.

I don't doctrinally agree with pentecostals/charasmatics at all.

That would be an unequal yoke for me.

All Orthodox Christian denoms/systems/sects/whatever believe in the Holy Spirit.

My pool of marryable women pretty much excludes those who believe in speaking in tongues now days, and other "stuff".

Good to know that those guys are out there- maybe I am naive but I can't say that I've met any christians like that I know of. I wonder if they're more common among certain denominations. The only thing I've come across is christians (male and female) expecting perfection in a potential mate. They're too idealistic and become upset when the person doesn't meet their expectations.

That is very true.

Yes, that is also true.

As you said, it would make no sense to date someone who you don't have the same beliefs.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

1.Name some things that are definite relationship deal breakers-

Unwillingness to put effort in to the relationship (this is a BIG ONE for me, it is one of things that can hurt me the most), crude language and behavior, insults, arrogance and self-righteousness (not in the joking sense, but when they seriously think they're better then everyone else), getting drunk or doing drugs, unable to hold up an intelligent conversation. Obsession with WOW or other similar online games, and doesn't go out much. I want to feel a connection with the guy... go for dinner, and do fun things together, I would probably get bored with the guy if he rather sit at home and play video games all the time. Similar to Stilly, I don't think I could date someone that has a charismatic/Pentecostal belief system. Just not a good match for me.

Truthfully, I hope you never run into such a situation, arwen. I hope no one does. I hope it’s a very rare thing. I never expected it and it took me awhile to see it. We often see what we want to see.

We are who we are. While the Holy Spirit is in the process of making us more like Christ, there are certain personal characteristics each of us possess, things that show up in tests like Myers-Briggs, love languages, learning styles, etc. God didn’t make us all clones of one another.

There are times when men (and women..it’s not one-sided at all) think “…hmm…I like everything about this person, except: (fill in blank)”, and they set about the behavior modification processes, never considering whether they should. I’ve known women who were willing to either withhold or offer sex as a means to this end, that or screaming like banshees. Some guys will withhold love and affection in much the same way. It’s conditional love. “I can only love you if you do it my way and if you become the person I think you should be” rather than the person God created you to be.

None of us are perfect. None of us. We all could use some work and need to submit to Christ for that to come about. But, as far as I’m concerned, God by no means expects us to become beaten down Stepford Wives who cower in the corner at a man’s every word who will agree to things that are clearly against the Word of God, such as living in sin.

I don’t see anywhere in scripture where the Deborahs of the Bible, who were strong/bold enough to go to war, are any less godly or submissive to the Word than the sweet little wife found darning socks by a warm fire. I have no issue whatsoever with being a godly wife in every sense of the word…a helpmate; but helpmate and mindless puppet are not synonymous in my book.

If a woman likes who she is, if she knows in her heart that she is following Christ day to day and conforming to what HE wants her to be, there is no reason she should ever settle for a man who seeks to break her spirit in order to mold her into the Barbie he would like her to be. Maybe the guys I'm speaking of are simply extreme versions of the guys you've met with unreasonable expectations, huh? :) Hope you NEVER, ever meet one. :)

But that’s just me….can’t speak for everyone :)

Your avatar is an interesting interpretation of Isaiah 52:7 Julianna...
However, I think below is much closer to the imagery, that scripture was intended to inspire.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

Really?

How beautiful upon the mountains
Are the feet of him who brings good news,
Who proclaims peace,
Who brings glad tidings of good things,
Who proclaims salvation,
Who says to Zion,
“Your God reigns!”

I think if we are concentrated on whether the feet look like Carmen Sandiego's or like Christian Childrens fund sponsor 2345145, we are missing the point of the verse entirely.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

Hm, did you forget that the Bible must be taken literally? :O For shame.

Re: Unicorn Hunters. Train-wreck fanatics. Volvo "settlers" - 3 Types Of Daters

If we approach this conversation from the perspective of those of the same gender also expecting us to conform to their mental imagery for whatever reason at times, a discussion regarding an avatar might remotely relate to the topic of this thread; but it does seem like quite a stretch to me.

I have found this thread to be very insightful and would truly hate to see it tank into some foolish argument about an avatar. I started to post a simple facepalm, but thought that might seem unkind.

That's pretty much all I have to say about that... :) Could we get back on topic, please? :) Thanks!

A messanger bearing good news is a beautiful object; and he says that his feet are beautiful; that is, his running is beautiful. He came to declare that the long and painful captivity was over. Such a messenger coming with haste, Isaiah says, would be a beautiful object.
