Please wait 4 the poll. ;)

Do you like math or are you good at it? OR do you hate math?

I happen to love math. I think math is awesome. I'm not going to boast here, I'll just say that I want to be like one of those autistic savants like in Rain Man who can do complex math in their heads like its nothing. :) Rain Man was a true story, in case anyone didn't know.

So h0w d0 y0u l1k3 m4th? :)

I like math, but I'm not nuts about it. I do think it's rather fascinating, all the equations, what all math can be used for. Mainly I marvel at wondering how people even came up with such equations.

That being said, I don't do a lot of math, besides the basics. My major in college didn't require much (besides a basic algebra course and a statistics course) and my job only requires basic math, so I can't say I do much advanced math.

The shapes always did get me though. I wasn't a huge fan of geometry.

YES YES YES Nod! Math is the root of all evil! Straight from the devil himself. Those 'mathematicians' are actually witches practicing black magic, and teaching our children to worship theirs gods name 'equation', 'algebra' and worst of them all, the war god name 'statistics'. Just yesterday my statistics textbook possessed me and forced me to read it!!

"One textbook to rule them all, One variable to find them, One standard deviation to bring them all and in the darkness bind them!"

I guess I'm just a weirdo practicing black magic worshiping my pagan god Pythagoras.

I like math, it's one of the few things in the world that actually makes sense. I don't ever get a chance to really practice any of it, but it was the only subject I looked forward to when I tried starting college, it was the only subject (other than writing) I was doing really well in, and it was the only class I missed when I had to drop out (writing was going into research and having to do references, that IS the devil).

I wish I had more of an opportunity for it.

I hate math but its just rules. I can do rules but its tedious and boring. Learn the rules, follow the rules, apply the rules. Creativity is irrelevant. Which is why CPA's are stereotyped as boring people. "bean counters"

I hate doing the dishes but I'm pretty good at it. I'm pretty good at math too. But I think there is like 3 kinds of Math.

There occurs a leap from being able to do what I call "scrabble math" which is the height of Math I can do in my head. Like figuring out scrabble scores, Fuel economy, and total grocery cost while I'm shopping.

And then there is Like Math where I have to start writing things down and plugging in equations. I'm pretty quick here but, Unless its for a good cause like playing Marco Polo with Submarines or figuring out how many Ohms I need in a circuit, I don't usually care. Its certainly not something I would do as a hobby.

And then there is like the theoretical Nonsense Math, where I'm plugging in equations into my graphics calculator . I feel like I'm playing mental minesweeper. As soon as my big tedious equation starts looking and good and taking shape *BOOM* make a mistake and its all up in smoke. And unlike practical math, I can't mentally check my work by imagining visually what I should approximately be getting.

Agreed, bean counting is tedious, but I love finance/investment theories, and econ....not that they're inherently creative areas of knowledge, but I'm a firm believer in the idea that one of the quickest ways of figuring a person or a company out is looking at where their money goes. Or where their money doesn't go. I also think there's an art to building an investment portfolio, but outside of school or work, I find that a lot of people just get turned off by the whole discussion.

How come nobody ever asks questions such as, "Are you good at/do you like 1. derailing threads 2. being sarcastic 3. riffing on other people's posts/threads 4. putting off serious answers.

There, I counted to 4.

That's all the math you're getting out of me!! :D

As someone who has made vacations out of Foreign Exchange trading to supplement my income. I believe that it CAN be exciting. Studying charts to find the correlations peaks and troughs is in and of itself, dreadfully boring. But when that Bid clears and you see what you thought was going to happen, happen and your investment starts picking up steam, that is exciting.

But I feel like that is not really math. In the same way that fantasy football isn't really math either.

Okay, um...
1. yes
2. Not really, that's not my thing.
3. Duh!
4.

Reading through the poll, I picked Nod's "Math (and the foosball) is the Debil" option...
My first thought before reading Zero's post is that he was wanting to shanghai some poor math student into doing his taxes...
