Hey Everybody,
This is a thread dedicated to Kakashi. I was talking to him a few days ago and tried to give him what I thought were a few compliments... (fortunately for me, he was a great sport and so far, has not called the police on me, as far as I know. However, a mysterious van did follow me home from work... I think... )
Seeing as I'm a few years older than him (14, to be exact), it made me think about the borders between trying to say something encouraging to someone (but always being sincere--I won't give a compliment if I don't mean it from the heart), flirting, and becoming downright creepy. (I told Kakashi I might be getting old but I can flirt with the best of them! Well, that is, when my dementia isn't acting up... ).
The reason I ask is because I work with a 70-year-old guy who would give me "compliments" all the time... until one day when he said, "Kim, if I wasn't married... I just think you're the sweetest thing here."
UGH!! MAJOR LINE BEING CROSSED!!! UNSPEAKABLY CREEPY!!
So, what do you all think?
I don't want to have to hold back on praise and positive feedback just because of age differences (I believe people of all ages need encouragement), but what guidelines do you think a person should follow?
