Ha ha ha... So now we've moved into talking about the sex lives of nerds...

Which, of course, completely debunks the myth that nerds have no mojo!!! :D

"I'm a nerd and I gots it goin' on!!!"

Well yes Edison was a nerd. He spent most of his youth at a telegraph machine interpreting and sending dots and dashes... obvious signs of classic nerdom.

Edison was fine, but, I feel the need to bring Nikola Tesla into the conversation, if we're going to start talking about awesome inventors. Google him.

I'm just saying, there's absolutely no reason for anyone to think there's something wrong with being a nerd. I don't see anything wrong with it, anyway.

...

I'm only adding my thoughts because we have a lot of young people here in the forum, and I don't want anyone out there who gets called a "nerd" to think they have something to be ashamed of. Or that somehow God loves them any less.

Wow, this actually hadn't occurred to me-- I grew up in a very nerd(or geek or whatever)-friendly place, and I sometimes forget that this isn't how most places work. So, I'll have to say ditto to what you said-- nothing wrong with being an outlier.

Well, since the two of you are agreeing nerds, I'll admit a geeky-N-godly fellow is quite becoming. ...preferable the mathematically inclined with genuine humility. (Nods happily).

Did you hear that, Malby?
:D

Hey..what..where ..when :D

I feel like I'm almost too young to have a preference on guys XD but for right now, if there's any kinda guy I'd be attracted to...it's a guy who loves Jesus, with a guitar and a sweet singing voice (I'm a musician...a picky musician). As far as what he wears? Jeans (I honestly don't mind skinny jeans on a guy. It might just be my age though), t-shirt or sweatshirt, no long hair, and as long as it's not piercings galore. Never was picky in the looks department.

Though I can honestly say I'm a music nerd that's never really attracted any guys (or if I have they never said so). Fine by me though. Jesus finds me beautiful and that's the only opinion I care about. :)

^This. Quite fond of my mathematically inclined friends.

Nerds are sexy? I dunno... the type around campus that play their D&D, minecraft, online video games and GoT obsessions aren't the best looking. I think a sexy guy can like certain nerdy things, but a nerdy guy sexy? I don't see it.

It's a cultural thing, I think. I imagine to most people, gamers just looks like grown guys playing with toys. I see the skill/planning/creativity in these activities (although, honestly, I've never really taken to computer/video games so much as tabletop.) On the flip side, I don't particularly understand the appeal of guys running into each other and chasing some ball up and down a field. But, I'm sure a lot of people see the skill/training that went into that sort of thing and find it admirable.

The term "nerd" really is relative.

My ex-husband considered himself a nerd. He wore glasses because he found contacts uncomfortable, was always reading something, was extremely intelligent, and loved video games.

But he also worked out and played a few sports because he was into healthy living. My ex-father-in-law told me that when (my ex-husband) was in high school, he tried out for a sports team and the coach laughed and made fun of him, saying he "ran funny" (implying he was gay) and assumed he was so awkward he wouldn't even get through the tryouts.

A month later this same coach made him captain of the team (even though there were guys who were older and had more experience.)

We also made a few trips to Chicago because a model scout had chosen him as a possible candidate at a convention.

You never know what you might find once the person puts down the book/video game console and introduces himself.

dang it! I guess I am disqualified for ever being liked.

Not my preference doesn't mean you're not preferred by the rest of the world, brother :P

Seoul, don't hide who you are because some people don't find it attractive. You would be surprised how many will be attracted to a conservative woman. I am not a Mennonite nor have I ever been, but I dress more conservatively than probably 90% of women and am not ashamed of it. I have had customers come into my store and tell me it is nice to see a lady wearing a skirt. I am proud that I am a lady no matter what I wear. It isn't the outfit that makes me. I make the outfit!! I think it is how you come across in what you wear. I hear all the time that people love how I walk no matter where I am at because I walk with confidence. God has made me his child and I am proud of who I am.

Thanks for this. Reading it reminded me of my past when when I wore more conservative clothing. One said that he liked the way I dressed because it's very womanly and decent. Myself believe when you feel good about yourself and being confident about it, it will shine through even the very modest clothes you are wearing.

Mennonite congregations worldwide have about 1.7 million members who embody the full scope of Mennonite practice from "plain people" to those who are indistinguishable in dress and appearance from the general population.

I do realize many quickly think of the Mennonites as the Amish, while in fact Amish is a part of the Mennonite congregation, but not all Mennonites are Amish. What distinguish the Mennonites are their way of thinking and living, not the way they dress. The Amish are a group of beautiful people in the inside, regardless of what they wear.

Agreed....nerd can be very relative and can honestly have two different extremes. I'm gonna show y'all the other end of the nerd spectrum. :p

Though I may not play video games to my heart's content, I am so very nerdy (though I actually have REALLY good eyesight so I don't need glasses. Last time I checked they were near perfect). I pretty much fit the stereotype for nerdy girls on those TV shows. :P

I'm REALLY good at math, and somewhat enjoy science, I even help kids with their math at school as long as it's not geometry, and I'll help the science teacher do science projects with the lower grade kids because they're just that fun (yeah and I'm good with kids, so I may or may not go into teaching when I graduate).

Like some nerds, I have to have a "special" diet (dairy-free, gluten-free, low-soy, can't do much meat...), I have almost straight A's (what isn't a high A is a High B almost low A), I'm kinda chubby like some nerdy girls (it's funny how nerd girls and guys are stereotyped. The nerd girls are always chubby and the guys are stick thin), and...I'm socially awkward (oh and can't forget the acne!!)! :D

Then I'm a music nerd. This means I could tell you the Seven Basic Major Scale Modes, the different minor scales, and what it means when a certain chord is dominant or sub-dominant. I read music for piano, guitar, and violin, though I'm not very good at violin at this point. Oh! And I can spout of the Circle of 5th's to ya from memory if you'd like. :D
