I use to have two outdoor cats. They were mother and daughter and were tabby cats.

They brought me a lot of joy and I loved them to death. Had them for a while too. Then, at some point, these coyotes came into our area and ate them both, along with just about every other outdoor cat in our neighborhood. :(
That's terrible :( Sorry to hear that.

How to pick! I love to look into the eyes of a dog, especially on those days you need some empathy.

But I love a cat curling up in my lap for a nap, and listening to it purr.

A cat's purr is the best. I love petting a cat and hearing it purr as a result.

Why I am not surprised you had a Doberman? I am sorry for your loss. I am now on my third dog as an adult. The first I had to give away when Plato entered the house. She was the cutest, smartest, lovable dog I have ever seen, and I grieved over her. I think she is still going strong, but I have lost contact with her new owners. Plato and I have become a team, and he has seen me through my darkest time of my life. To let him go would be too hard yet. So I will keep him until he is too old and sick to have a goo d dog life.

Point is. Yes. It hurts when a pet passes away, but that is the natural thing. They will only live a 6th or 7th of our life spam, and a dog will never surpass a human in value. (Although I often prefer dogs to humans as company).
Oh, maybe I was not clear. My Dobbie is still alive, but he's near the end of his life and he's dealing with Wobbler's Syndrome, so I get to watch him slowly fade away as his body betrays him. Dobermans, to me, are the most loyal companions I could ever hope to know. Like me, they have a reputation and a persona in public that is vastly different from how they act in private. Most people are/were intimidated by my big Doberman, but late at night while sitting on the couch to watch TV, he is/was just a big cuddle-monkey.

I prefer an animal that. . . wake you up early either by jumping into bed with you or licking you...

Yeah. My avatar.... Charlotte, my Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, this is the view of her first thing in the morning lol...

I put an end to that, though! Had to break her little doggie heart. Sorry! It's MY bed and I need my sleep lol. <3

We have three dogs and three cats. I am more of a dog person, because dogs are "happy" and cats just don't care lol.

One of the best feelings in the world is coming home to a dog that is so excited to see you. ^^

There you see my lack of English skills... it was awful that I misinterpreted your post.

I remember when our Golden was fading away like you are telling. It is awful to see the dog's declining and suffering as it is to see a human. I am not doubting that your Doberman is faithful, and I think it is important to match the dog to the owner. So it seems like you and your dog is a good match. Honestly I am not sure how I would cope if I didn't have a dog. Plato has seen me through the hellish years I have been through. I think God can use animals to help us through difficult times, and you are always loved by the pet you feed.

Yahweh. Your personality is complex as your dog's is. I didn't mean it as an insult, but as a funny comment. You might return it to me... I have two dog's that are so intensely thinking about food, that they are their own worse enemy. Dogs that are so shallow that they run multiple times to pick up logs of wood just to get a small "good boy" as reward. We are drawn to our pets, and they somehow mirrors us. I am happy you have your dog as a companion. I hope your dog is not suffering too much, and I am confident that he gets the best care by you. Your love towards him is obvious through your post.

My late cat used to kill snakes!
I need a cat like that! One that kills snakes, roaches and pretty much anything else that moves would definitely be good, haha.

Would a cat give me the remote when it drops to the floor? Would a cat give me toilet paper when the roll is empty? Would a cat turn the lights off after you have gone to bed?

A cat is useful to one thing. To catch and eat mice and rats. Keep them outdoors or get a ferret.

Mine are outside cats and they kill anything that moves.....even their shadow if they could catch it....they climb trees, sleep on the roofs of my cabins, and flock to my truck in winter to sleep on the hood when I get in.....

I respect your view even if I don't feel the same way.

I heard someone make a good argument as to why dogs are better than cats. They said: If you were to be transformed against your will into a tiny mouse before your pet's eyes, one of two things would probably happen depending on which pet you had. If it was a cat, the cat would probably still attack and eat you without any hesitation. If it was a dog, the dog probably wouldn't harm you and would still love you.

I went over to my grandmother's house one day and her cat had killed this HUGE rat and dropped it in her yard. That was not a pleasant sight to see. I don't think I'll ever forget the sight of that dead rat as long as I live.
