Well God made the world - including mosquitoes - but what we have right now is NOT the world the way it was when God made it.

Some things that are most annoying were designed to be an integral part of the world and its functions. But sin messes lots of things up. I'm guessing if scientists were able to trace when that genetic defect in mosquitoes happened, they would trace it back about 6,000 years. =^.^=
I am an old Earth creationist, so would not bet on 6,000 years.

I've always been a cat person. Growing up on a cattle ranch, I almost always had 5 cats. They were able to go in and out whenever they wanted and I loved them all.

I now don't have any, which makes me really sad. I hope to have another one soon. I had 2, but due to work and time, and some personal issues I ended up having to choose to give them away to the local humane society. It was one of the most emotional things I've ever had to do, and I cried for days.

I love visiting friends that have them.

Wow. Are you saying you prefer cats to dogs? I do believe this is the end of a beautiful friendship. And I thought you were such a sensible person!

Sorry Stunnedbygrace... I tried to like that post because it was really clever, but I just... I just can't! It was clever though. But every time my mom threw out the litter box our dog would be on point to raid it, and it always disgusted me.

I know how you feel. We once lived with three indoor animals. Two dogs and a cat. A big dog and a little dog. Sometimes I'd come out of my room and catch the big dog eating out of the litter box. Gross indeed.

I grew up with both cats and dogs, so I like both. I give the edge to dogs because dogs love their people. A dog would die to protect its human, a cat would not. There have been stories of dogs refusing to leave their owners’ graves. This type of devotion and love is not found in cats. I know that dogs are not for everyone. Their affection can be smothery and too much to deal with, cats’ periodic need of affection may be preferable since it is not demanding. Plus, the constant devotion of a dog may be seen as valueless, because it is always there. A cat’s affection is not so reliable, it is more variable, so may be seen as more valuable when the cat deigns to give affection to his human.

I will say that people who prefer cats often think they are more intelligent than the hoi poloi who prefer dogs (I am referring to hipsters).

Is your user name from the song “Days of Wine and Roses”?

Oh, you see it quite often online, cat owners say things like “cats are so much smarter than dogs” and “I like cats because they are not one dimensional, they are more fascinating than dogs”. There is the implication that since dogs are more “simple” than cats, then dog owners must be more “simple minded” than cat owners. Take a gander at youtube, cat owners can be kind of elitist. Not ALL, before I get accused of saying “all cat owners are condescending toward dog owners”. But many are.

This thread just made a strange turn. Again thanks to Galatea. You have an unique way of saying something that provokes and makes a whole new dimension to the discussion.

As for intelligence and pets, I don't really think it matters alot. It is more about personality as intelligence. Like it is no surprise I like Retrievers, and, at least for me, it wasn't a surprise Yahweh is gracious has a Doberman. And Bella to Mailmandan certainly suits him, too. And yes. Cats suits to Winerose. She is intelligent, but did she ever claim to be smarter because of the cat preference? No.

I did not impugn WineRose, as far as I know. The only people I dissed were hipsters.

I am a provocateur, what can I say? Perhaps I am looking to be punched in the face. I suspect myself of masochism.

There is a tendency among a set of cat owners to look down on dog owners. Rednecks have dogs, that sort of thing.

I did not even mention WineRose in my post at all.

I predict that the poll will swing in favor of cats by a landslide.
