The clergy shouldn't have denied attendance to church to those christians...
However, the fact that someone stops going to church because wearing a dress represents such a big compromise can also point to a pride that is bigger than the thirst for Jesus Christ. We must reduce our egos in order to make room for God. A small step in denying ourselves is obedience.
I see what your saying but we are talking about unbelievers miraculously wanting to go to church, only having that being extinguished by false religious ideals. He said if thats what she has to do to be accepted then they can get stuffed. They got a bad first impression of the church and we are not to make it harder for people to see the gospel.

Oh, I thought the persons from your example were christians.
The doors of the church should remain opened for everybody.

Seraph_Aximili,

You do not have to follow a specific style; that's what I keep on saying.
We must dress decently when we go to church. Is that really so hard to understand and respect?

i don't worry about wearing a suit and tie or anything like "my sunday best" -- but i make an effort not to dress so that people behind me are staring at me, instead of focusing on the Lord who they should be praising, or the teacher that they ought to be being taught by.

i think that's pretty much what Paul was encouraging, writing to Timothy:

Likewise also that women should adorn themselves in respectable apparel, with modesty and self-control, not with braided hair and gold or pearls or costly attire
(1 Timothy 2:9)
and Peter too -

Do not let your adorning be external—the braiding of hair and the putting on of gold jewelry, or the clothing you wear— but let your adorning be the hidden person of the heart with the imperishable beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit, which in God's sight is very precious.
(2 Peter 3:3-4)

absolutely, it's wrong to judge someone by how they look - but it's wrong too to be a stumbling block for others.

i used to have a lot of piercings - not just in my ears. no tattoos though. one day before a youth trip my pastor talked to me, considerately, because we were going to a gathering of many other churches, and some in our congregation were worried about the impression my appearance i would make. i took them all out because i didn't want to be a stumbling block. through the experience i discovered how meaningless they really were, and never had any interest in putting them back in - not because i ever believed they were wrong, or even that i couldn't justify them. but because of people i would never talk to that would see me and come to some judgment. and not even people in the world, but people in the church.

i personally have no problem with anyone's dress or anything else of the kind. but i respect that if i come to church in a fishnet sweater and barbed wire wrapped around my shoulders, it's likely to set some poor old soul into a tizzy, and they will totally miss out on being blessed by the service and the teaching that day -- and i don't want that on my head.

here's some Christian goth music. ought to start a thread in the music section..
Leper is probably the best band in the genre currently making music that i know of.

Leper: La Ca Vrei (Take What You Want)

I've been wrong more than I've been right
Fooling myself painted with pride
Angels of death darkness and light
Kissing my forehead
Beautifully tasted their dreams- sown shut my eyes
What do you want from me?
Mongrels and goats
They were the golden hooks in my nose
Fall on my knees
Lift up my face
No longer deny
Wonderful grace
You make me cry- with one drop of blood
What do you want from me?
You took my hate replaced it with love
You took the coal that healed my tongue
You took my death replaced it with life
You drove out the horrors that possessed my mind
You showed me peace when I had none
Shown me forgiveness forgot what I'd done
You gave me the sky
You gave me the sea
Take what You want from me

Mostly by Leper, maybe?
i meant that that specific band, Leper, has recorded about a dozen albums. it's by no means the only Christian goth-style music i listen too, though they are among my favorite groups, and like i said, IMO maybe the best in the genre that is still playing together.

i enjoy this mans music a lot too:

Metus - Simplicity

Wisdom lays
in simplicity
who's aware of it ?
Could life flow from words ?

Narrow... our views
sad're empty deeds
make us feel dead
though yet we breathe

We're lonely souls
in the world of dreams
fallen in love
with our tangled ways
We're but shadows
fading in the dusk
fallen in love
with our sinful ways

Simplicity
and balance as well
twin brothers
never separated
no division between them
the profound Wisdom
is their Creator

Simplicity
the crown of the wise one
who's aware of it ?
Could life flow from words ?

Narrow our views
sad're empty deeds
make us feel dead
though yet we breathe

We're but shadows
fading in the dusk
fallen in love
with our sinful ways

We're lonely souls
in the world of dreams
fallen in love
with our tangled ways
And many will fall
swallowed by the will of God
in the day of the great awakening
when the judge will descend
so many tears
so many cries we'll hear
when the revenge will come
Simplicity
wisdom
justice
salvation

Metus is a poet from Poland; all his music is written solo by him. from what i've read he doesn't have any vocal or musical training at all, but has a God-given ear & talent for it, i think.

Segregation still exists today. It's not black and white either. If you don't conform there may not be a blatant "go somewhere else", though you won't feel welcomed.

Virgin Black - Domine

Dies illa, dies irae
Dies illa, dies irae
The hour is at...
Loss and grief in chorus
chime forth their canticles
Loss and grief
Dies illa, dies irae
The hour is at hand
Sorrow ever awaits on joy, Domine
Sorrow ever awaits on joy
Judgement is at hand
All flesh is barren
Al souls subject
Quantus tremor est futurus
Quantus tremor
Judgement is at hand
Requiem
Domine

For some people it means black clothes and make up. For others it means extra piercings also. It varies a lot among people and probably places also.

Blessings.
