So, I'm attempting a healthy version of chili tomorrow!

And on that note, off to do my leg works outs -.-

Grandpa, you seem pretty legit. Want to do my leg workouts for me?

Tomorrow is bench press. You'll have to wait till monday for squats and legs...

And I did your favorite thing today. Cardio... But only 16minutes of it...

I made venison chili that I think is pretty healthy. Venison burger, venison steak, kidney beans, chili beans, black beans, canned tomatoes and tomatoe sauce, jalapenos and seasoning.

Believe it or not, I didn't mean for that ^^^ to sound like a joke -_-

I'm tired of trying to motivate myself.

Why is that, ZT? Wanna send me a PM and talk about it? :(

Yesterday was leg day. I squatted 205lb for 5 reps. My bodyweight is 140lb. Today I worked out triceps and did some cardio for 30 minutes.

Grandpa and Hellooo, thank you for the advice regarding the physiotherapy. I will look into it. :)

I've never been to any kind of sports or physical therapy, but I got a real bad muscle spasm in my hip once after playing soccer..I went to an urgent care clinic and they gave me an injection and muscle relaxers. It was magic.
You played football? Wow, that's awesome! Which position did you play in? :D
I was an amateur football player myself. My usual positions were right back and defensive midfield.

You don't have to motivate yourself.

You just come up with a plan based on what you are trying to accomplish and slowly work at your plan.

After a few weeks it becomes habit. You'll find that days when you have to skip your workout, for whatever reason, that you wish you could have done it.

But be careful skipping workouts. That becomes habit as well...

There are several fitness plans that you could adopt based on your goals. If you are going for strength there is 5x5 and Starting Strength.

If you are going for bodybuilding those probably apply too, if you are just beginning.

If you are going for cardio there is a couch to 5k running plan that I got off the internet. It worked really well. Then 5k to 10k plan. I got an app called MapMyRun to figure out how far 5k was and it was off to the "races"...

I've modified every plan I've followed depending on how well, or how not so well, I was doing.

We're at the age now where, if there are people that depend on us, we have to take care of ourselves. So if you don't do it for you, if you are not your own motivation, just think of the people who depend on you.

Do you think there's anything that would make working out feel less like a chore?

What if you set aside the indoor cardio for a bit, and find some "fun" physical activities...rock climbing, hike a scenic trail in your area, take a few dance classes, water aerobics class, hot yoga, just something that will add some variety in your routine so you don't get bored and discouraged.

Do you have any friends who may be willing to partner with you for working out? Sometimes that can keep things a little more interesting.

Don't beat yourself up, you are 100% physically capable of this. Give yourself permission to stumble and have a few bad days here and there because it's not a race. Motivation can be a big old nasty mind game

This is deeper than just the usual motivation block. I just have a lot on my mind. I'm worried about stuff that I'd rather not talk about, not even in private because its just too personal. I really shouldn't have said anything. Thanks for trying to help.

Sorry to hear that, zero. You're the best judge of what works for you, but hopefully we'll still see you around here!

I don't think there's anything that older folks have to do different except use lighter weights and not over-exert themselves because older people generally have less muscle mass and are generally at higher risk of stroke, heart attack and have less bone density. There are exceptions of course, but I'm talking about older folks in general. It really depends on one's fitness level. There are some older folks that are in better shape than people half their age.

Thanks. There, i found what was at the back of my mind. http://christianchat.com/natural-health-forum/111644-stretching-great-body.html

And yes, the fitness level. We generally do not do the gym, and have our own routines outside. I much prefer to have the breeze and to breathe in outside as well.

Oooh that's awesome! I was too short to be an outright defender. :p

Today, I did some workouts for my lats and core - barbell rowing, battle rope (THIS IS INTENSE!!!!!), lat pulldowns, dumbbell shrugs and cable bicep curls. Tomorrow is cardio day. -_-

And I did it! Haha.

30 minutes and I burnt 270calories. It is not much, but cardio has always been the weak link in my fitness program. :(

I followed that up with box jumps and seated calf raises.

Nooooo :(

I kinda stopped last week, cause I was tired and air jump ropes burn, and I freaking hate planks and push ups. My logic was going with my body telling me all the reasons why it was okay if I stopped. But, and it's one big but, when cramps drive me crazy every month, I always curse myself for not working out and the pain of regret is so hard to live with. Which reminds me of this quote I posted before, which you may remember: The pain of regret outweighs the pain of discipline.

On a more personal note, I'll pray for your peace of mind and heart Gabe. I hope you feel better soon. *hugs*

I just finished 40 minutes of running and then squats, but I'm gonna try to get in a lot of upper-body stuff when I do my actual workout tonight.
