No one’s claiming to be perfect, but when you know better you do better. If you’re going to claim to be a christian, there are beliefs and practices that you leave behind as part of your new life, not your former life style. As I grew in my walk with Jesus, as I studied the word, I came to see that things like not doing drugs, not looking after my health, not sleeping together before marriage, films I don’t watch, books I don’t read, not following the 10 commandments, not encompassing the fruits of the spirit were all things I had to make a commitment to developing and practicing because they’re in line with the word of God. One of those is games that don’t exemplify Jesus, rather, has all kinds of things that is not of God in the messages they postulate. It's not so much a timing issue as it is a content one.

To use your example, I’d rather spend too much watching videos that don’t contradict the christian ethos than entertain myself with games that absolutely do. There’s a distinction there that you’ve missed. “oh well if you spent too much time reading today then using tarot cards/following Buddha is totally fine because I consider that entertainment”. If it’s not inline with God’s word as the substance in so many games are, then that needs to be left behind totally as part of your Christian walk.

To try and justify them by saying “you spent too much time today reading christian books/exercising today – that’s your entertainment - so I’m going to play all these games today that don’t glorify God at all because that’s my entertainment!” is not a comparison to be made. It’s the wrong analogy. If you believe that kind of activity you’re engaging in doesn’t contradict the Christian ethos, then that’s your decision, God speed. I don’t believe those activities i.e, many of those games, are in line with God’s word. Just like all those who claim to be Christian, we’re not perfect, God is far from finished with us, but where and when we know better we strive to do so according to the word of Christ. That’s inclusive of those calibre of games, that after much study and prayer, I can't take part in. That’s not putting myself ‘on a higher level’ that’s my own personal choice according to what resonates with me as the right thing to do.
I dont think tarot cards are an equal comparison, as they are an abomination. Do video games contain things that could be considered an abomination? Sure. But is it really fair to assume that every single video game that everyone plays does? No. Not every video game is about stealing cars, killing people and doing lewd and sexual things. In fact, one of my all time favorite games is a game where you build a farm, get married, raise a family and build up your homestead. Cant really think of anything too sinful in it : p

I do think there are good arguments against video games biblically speaking, and I dont think its wrong for Christians to help other Christians turn away from them when using the right argument, as a way to encourage each other to focus on Christ and not on earthly treasures. But to assume that all video games are filled with sin and abominations, thats not a fair argument.

And with the argument in your second post, can you really say that everything you do for entertainment is studying the Word of God? And even if you are being completely honest about that, dont you think theres a better way to help others get their mind off earthly treasures than telling them how wrong they are playing them?
Also, like I have said before, the first thing I think of when I hear people talk about things like this, one form of technological entertainment, the first thing I think of, they probly have a television, they probly have a computer, and they probly use all of these things. So I feel that the people who, instead of talking about how we can do better, come and tell others that they need to do better, are hypocritical.

The way I see it if I notice that I am getting to addicted to video games I have to cut myself off if I notice they are starting to have a negative effect on me that makes me distracted from God I cut myself off as I fear becoming addicted to them again.
Believe me when I say that I know from experience that there is a vast difference between owning a game and a game owning you the scary thing is when the game owns you rarely ever do you realize it

No assumption was made about every single game, I made this disclaimer at the outset and throughout my post:

If it’s not inline with God’s word as the substance in so many games are, then that needs to be left behind totally as part of your Christian walk. I don’t believe those activities i.e, many of those games, are in line with God’s word.

No, because that's not the claim I made to start with. When I say that everything we do should be inline with the Christian ethos and glorifying God that doesn't mean reading the bible is the only thing we do or the only way we can glorify God. I do many things with my time outside of my work, but as was reiterated throughout my post I make an attempt to make sure they're in line with the word of God. If there's movies, books and pastimes that aren't consistent with that, then I leave them behind.

And even if you are being completely honest about that, dont you think theres a better way to help others get their mind off earthly treasures than telling them how wrong they are playing them?

Absolutely, if that was the case to start with. If there's an open thread or a current ongoing issue in society about the issue, then I will reply as I have done in this thread about my understanding about the genre of certain games in line with the word of God. It's got nothing to do with condemning them as a person, but rather the discourse over the nature of the activity according to the bible.

the first thing I think of when I hear people talk about things like this, one form of technological entertainment, the first thing I think of, they probly have a television, they probly have a computer, and they probly use all of these things. So I feel that the people who, instead of talking about how we can do better, come and tell others that they need to do better, are hypocritical.
Myself specifically I don't own a tv, I do have my macbook and yes I do use it. However that's not the crux of the matter, it's not what you own, it's what you do with it. If you're going use those devices for things that aren't consistent with being a Christian, i.e: some of the games that you've described earlier on in your post, then that was the point, not that you have those things, but what you do with them.

You made an excellent point in one of your other posts in a different thread that illustrates my own:

And I would be honest, Id tell my potential partner that Im not a virgin, and that Ive been with people before, and about the kind of person I used to be before coming to Christ

When we come to Christ we leave certain things behind because we know it's not what God wants of us, it doesn't make us hypocritical or more righteous than the next person, we're all on our imperfect walk with Christ, but if a discussion evolves about why we don't engage in certain things, it's that simple: because it doesn't feel ok in our spirit and we try and match everything we do with what God is instructing us to do.
