all kinds of tea are very healthy too...especially green tea and white tea...they are high in antioxidants...

japan has the highest life expectancy in the world...they also drink the most green tea...
Green tea supposedly prevents cancers because of it's high level of antioxidants. My mother drinks it obsessively :)

I add milk and honey to tea if it's black or green, but if it's anything else, I'll drink it plain.

I drink raw milk. I have a jersey cow. If I drink milk from store I cough however, I can drink Sweety's milk and I'm fine. I believe its healthier. But really I like the raw milk in my cooking. We make homemade Ice cream that is very good.

Water. I also drink quite a lot of pomegranate juice. Also recently I have decided to take up drinking green tea again. I love fruit juice as well. Sometimes also almond milk.

Herbal teas are excellent. Pomegranate green teas, all green teas, lemon teas. Either all splenda, or honey. havn't bought sugar in over 20 years. A good concoction for me is, fresh spinach, with apple carrot juice. The more fresh vegt. and fruits. is better. I luv banana smooties with yogurt. Lots of water. Lemon, limes. :)

I bought a vitamix blender, and I am hooked on Katy's smoothies. I found you can throw a lot of things in there. Have you read about what I found out about gelatin? I did a thread on it. Wonderful protein, no taste, easy to add to smoothie. I found I can buy lots of ginger, throw it in the blender with a little water, freeze it and add to the smoothie. I do that with lemons, too. Just wash them good, cut up a bit and throw it in rind, seeds and all. I collect small jars, fill them, and have them lined up in my freezer to add stuff to smoothies. I like the taste of the whole lemon better than just the juice, anyway, and it does wonderful things for salad dressings.

I was having a terrible time with ulcers in my legs. Whatever the lemon rind is so filled with, it does a wonderful job strengthening these 88 year old blood vessels so the ulcers are almost cured. I think it would be a real blessing to anyone with varicose veins.

My morning treat is coffee with full fat cream. Just one coffee a day, and just a bit of full fat cream.

Otherwise, I drink water and tea at work.

Soda sometimes, but not often.

Green vegetable juices work wonders for me!
Alkalizing the body is key to good health and disease prevention/recovery.
here's a quick juicing recipe I do:
2 handfuls of kale
2-4 cucumbers
head of romaine lettuce
3-5 carrots
5 stalks of celery
Optionall:
Ginger,lemon juice, dandelion.

**This may be a little bitter, so you can throw in an apple or 2, plus more carrots. You can play around with this and perfect it to meet your needs.

Cheers to good health!

God Bless you all.

I love my vitamix too :). I like making kale and frozen fruit smoothies. Thanks for those ideas! I didn't know you could throw a whole lemon in it...I guess you could put a whole orange in it too?

Can you suggest a salad dressing recipe for me? I've been using fat free ranch but I need something healthier :).

Freezing pulverized ginger in water is a great idea...putting them in ice trays would be quick and easy...then move them to a ziplock or closed container. Do you need to peel the ginger first?

I don't peel the ginger, I wonder if it would taste better peeled.

Being I'm a health food nut, I always stir up my own salad dressings so I am sure what kind of oil is used, but I sort of pull the recipes out of the air. Basically, I use two. One is based on yogurt with an acid, either vinegar or some of the lemon I have in the freezer from my vitamix. From there, I just flavor it. The other dressing is oil and vinegar, with sometimes the lemon. How much vinegar depends on how strong the one you are using is. I use rice vinegar if I am watching calories, because the dressing can be strong on the vinegar and taste wonderful. Flavorings vary. Garlic, oregano, thyme for instance. For a slaw I like a little honey and always a good mustard in a yogurt dressing. Other things I sometimes add are celery seed, dill, or caraway.

Thanks for those suggestions! Last night I experimented with equal measures of olive oil, honey, and vinegar plus some mustard...it was pretty good! I notice the lesser amount of sodium compared to bottled dressing, but I will get used to the change. Less sodium is always better :). I probably should avoid a sweetner, but frankly, I'm just not there yet...I still like a sweet taste.

One of the main things I've learned from trying to correct my diet is not to drink my calories. To lose weight I have to keep my daily intake between 1100-1200 calories (I'm short). So I can't waste any of those precious calories in a drink. But I don't like to drink just plain water so I've come up with this alternative that works good for me:

In a pitcher of water I add about 4-5 teabags of herbal tea (peppermint, ginger,2 milk thistle, and whatever else looks good)..I cut off the strings and let them remain in the pitcher.
-add crushed cinnamon sticks
-add 3-5 slices of lemon (I was putting a whole lemon in but I started getting fever blisters...too alkaline?)
-several drops of liquid stevia (NOW's "Better Stevia" is great!)

As I drink it, I add more water and liquid stevia. It becomes too diluted after two days so I then throw everything out and start over.

If I have time, I'll put everything in hot water to steep for awhile, let cool, and then put in the fridge.

Some people add fruit, like strawberries, or veggies, like sliced cucumbers. It's fun to experiment :).

The lemon and milk thistle is supposed to be very good for the liver. Our poor livers are in terrible shape...at least for those eating the standard American diet.
