I listened a bit to Sen. Sanders and read some of the comments of Ms. Cortez, and I don't believe it is accurate to refer to people who are concerned about the climate changes of the earth and other pollution crisis issues as "nut cases." We are stewards of this world, and there are some very serious issues facing the world at this time, and pollution and climate change are two of them, as well as food shortages, fresh water shortages, and political upheavals, and many serious moral issues, some of which "cry out to Heaven."
When there are this many critical issues going on, and the climate issues are on such a fine margin of safety, such as critical ocean temperatures, and other ocean issues, some that are unknown, that are causing mass die-offs of marine life, as well as weather conditions that appear to be contributing to more severe weather patterns--
it creates a danger of the domino-effect, for one, where one system fails and effects another. One example is the "Colony Collapse Syndrome," of honey bees. The symbiotic relationships of natural systems are very sophisticated and while resilient, can sometimes be in a sensitive or delicate balance. Therefore, when climate change effects this delicate balance, such as lowering the ocean temperatures by a few degrees, it can cause the failure of inter-dependent systems that can become vulnerable to new changes in a stable environment that has been consistent for many decades or centuries or even millenia.
These conditions can create a "perfect storm," or a better description would be a "dire storm of imperfect conditions" that can create massive global catastrophic threats of epic proportions. In addition to these many environmental threats, are known and unknown threats of out-of-control science, without ethical guidelines, or even malicious science being used for economic gain by individuals who do not value God's creation, or the well-being of the many peoples of the earth, who God our Creator values above all, to the point of going to unimaginable ends to save people who choose to live according to the ways of Christ, who was sent to save us from the same evil individuals and the powers of evil that control them.
Jesus said, peaceful people will inherit the earth. This includes those who work diligently to ensure the safety of ecosystems, and people from man-made and natural threats.
But, the greatest threat to this world are those who rebel against God [Elohim] and His Son, Jesus our Lord [Adonai], who came to save the world--the people of the world-- all who are chosen and choose to follow Him, from the spiritual threats--fallen angels/demons, and the horrifying damage even one such individual or being can do, and have done to this world and to the safety and well-being of the Children of God through unimaginable horrors of rebellion and sociopathic and psychopathic abuses of God's Holy ways, this priceless and rare oasis of earth, and brutal, and unforgivable for some, abuses of humanity.
"The Lord is coming to judge the earth." (Psalm 96/98)
Even Peter said "the end of all things is near," back then, but, that God was delaying His final judgment to save all who turn to Him to the end.
So, people who are sounding the alarm for the climate, environment, political, moral, and spiritual upheavals of the world are not "nut cases," since they are echoing the message of the Gospel to be good stewards of the world, the world's assets, the world's people, and good stewards of the "true riches of heaven," as Jesus said, including stewardship of suffering and lost souls Who we can be sure He cares about.
That's why He chose the visible suffering of the Cross of Roman execution, the worst imaginable.
To answer,
with His own blood,
those who falsely accuse God of not caring for this world and for the suffering people here, and who, by their actions demonstrate that stewardship of the earth and people doesn't have a place in this world, or have a divine priority, the same divine loving care and protection that all who are called to be sons and daughters of the Kingdom of Heaven have--a humble, sacred assurance of Divine love and protection in knowing and following Jesus of Nazareth, united to the New Covenant.
So, stewardship of the earth matters to God;
Second to stewardship of lost souls.
This has been emphasized countless times in the Bible, in salvation history, and by the blood of many servants of God, soldiers and martyrs, Heaven's armies, defenders of the peace, and true and loyal, faithful Angels and Saints, who, as we are all called as Christians-- to endure to the end, standing with Jesus, unto life or death.
Apparently we matter to Him.
