Does 1 Corinthians 11 mean a woman should have long hair for her husband or God.

This Chapter in 1 Corinthians 11 is all about headship in the Church setting -----there is a chain of command ----

A woman's long hair is considered a covering when in a Church setting when she is praying or prophesying -----and a head covering means you are under subjection ====the head of every man is Christ ---the head of every woman is man ----the head of Christ is God -------Adam was created by God ----the woman was created from the man ----so if the woman shaves her head or cuts her then this is showing she is rebelling against the order of the Church --------it is more about the headship of the Church then it is about a person'd head -----

If you read the whole Chapter in context it explains itself -----in my view -----

The important thing is knowing what all these things symbolize and point to. All things eventually point to subjection to God.

A woman's head-covering symbolizes subjection to husband which further symbolizes the subjection of everyone to God.

It is not the practice itself, but men's attitudes about it that troubles me. Many women in my Church cover their heads, but they are treated with respect and therefore do not resent it. A little love goes a long way.

The best is long I believe. But the others are optional. Do you believe it's optional or not. I know alot of people who don't think so. But no contention.

I prefer long hair to short but some women look very nice with short hair.
If someone feels long hair or even a veil are appropriate, then I say do so. But to me it's a similar to the argument about eating meat offered to idols...it's a matter of conscience.
True obedience and worship is a matter of the heart. Outward expressions of an inward reality can prove very meaningful and be a source of interest and education. Follow as God leads.

Sounds like a very possessive husband. Those are small things in life that could be overlooked. I think the subject discussed here is in relation to worship. Not outside the Church.

now the reason i said women ought to have their hair covered is because that is a directive from the Lord not from Paul.

Now this chapter begins with very strong words....Imitate me just as i imitate christ....Now this means that everything paul is saying is actually from Christ its not his own way of thinking.....lets proceed the word of God says that every man who prays or prophesizes with a covering on his head dishonors christ...now paul doesnt say that when they meet together in church...its very clear pray or prophesy....

1st Peter 2:4-5 As you come to him, the living Stone—rejected by humans but chosen by God and precious to him— 5 you also, like living stones, are being built into a spiritual house[a] to be a holy priesthood, offering spiritual sacrifices acceptable to God through Jesus Christ ....Peter describes the church as a holy priesthood, meaning we are priests and we are supposed to offer spiritual sacrifices this includes prayer...In the ot, the priests of God spent all their lives in reverence to God in the tabernacles, where the presence of God was...the temple was the house of prayer meaning that it prayer was always present in the temple...day in day out ...but now we dont have the temple in Jerusalem but we have a temple first the church is the temple, 1st Corinthians 3:16-17 "Don’t you know that you yourselves are God’s temple and that God’s Spirit dwells in your midst? 17 If anyone destroys God’s temple, God will destroy that person; for God’s temple is sacred, and you together are that temple." and as christians we dont always pray when we come together to worship, we worship everytime, we are not restricted to praying or prophesying only when we meet as the church ...relate when Agabus prophesied about pauls arrest...Jesus says that God's house is a house of prayer...the temple fell in 70 ad but we still have a temple we are that temple....
1stThesallonians 5:16-18 Rejoice always, 17 pray continually, 18 give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus. ....

Christians have told to pray continuously so this doent limit them to when they meet but everytime ....so if a man prays or prophesis with a head covering dishonors christ ....and this is everytime not when they meet...because even when Im going to sleep and ask God to protect me when im sleeping im praying but if im having a covering on my head as a man or if i lack a covering as a woman im dishonring christ (for men) and my head( women) respectively...


Paul finishes this verse by saying ....

But if anyone wants to argue about this, I simply say that we have no other custom than this, and neither do God’s other churches.


He knew people may be contentious...and want to argue about covreing of the head in worship....this was not the custom only for the people in Corinth, rather all churches of God were practicing this....and this was not sometthing started by paul in Corinth, it was in Jerusalem, Ephesus, Galatia because it was the custom of the church......
