Trying to reconcile Genesis 1:27 with Genesis 2

This is a great explanation! I definitely think the word “man” in Genesis 1 means all people (men and women), and especially after reading all the replies here I’m now convinced that “male and female” was just a way to emphasize that God created man with 2 distinct sexes. Honestly I have never...

Trying to reconcile Genesis 1:27 with Genesis 2

I agree things have gotten confusing lately -- mostly because of liberal agendas to redefine terms. I have noticed in older writings they tend to use the word "sex" the way we use the word "gender" today, but unfortunately "sex" has a dirty connotation now. But I believe it is the more correct...

Trying to reconcile Genesis 1:27 with Genesis 2

Yes it's been really helpful to hear how other people think about it. I feel much better about it.

Trying to reconcile Genesis 1:27 with Genesis 2

That's a great explanation! I'm glad I asked this question here so I can come back and read it when I get myself mixed up again. I also like your explanation because it makes it very clear that there isn't a contradiction between Gen 1 and 2. I've seen where some people say that those chapters...

Trying to reconcile Genesis 1:27 with Genesis 2

I think I also read somewhere one time that the concept of male/female in Gen 1 is broader than just literally men and women. I think God put masculine and feminine "forms" into the world. I think this is a Greek thing, but unfortunately I can't remember the sources. I have to remind myself all...

Trying to reconcile Genesis 1:27 with Genesis 2

That's a great point. I agree it is very clear that God meant for there to be two and only two genders. By putting this in the very first chapter of the Bible, it's even more clear!

Thank you for mentioning this. That's a wonderful connection.

Trying to reconcile Genesis 1:27 with Genesis 2

This is one of those things I think I have always been puzzled by when I read Genesis... and I've always felt weird speaking up about it in Sunday school or in front of church friends, so I figured I would ask it here to get people's thoughts. As a woman I have read the first few chapters of...

What is the Biblical Definition of WORK?

Amen to that. It is exhausting trying to keep up with what people put on social media. It makes you feel like you are constantly failing. We shouldn't hold ourselves to a standard that God doesn't approve of anyway.

    Love how you put that!

What is the Biblical Definition of WORK?

As a mom and homemaker, I can fully relate to Martha and Mary! My "job" isn't paid but it looks the same basically 7 days a week, and it is hard to not do some chores on Sunday. Putting dinner on the table takes just as much work Sunday as every other day of the week.

Very General; What it Takes to Have a Good Marriage

I highly recommend the book Men Are from Mars, Women Are from Venus. I know it's seems like a cliche and it is dated, but it really helps you understand how differently God made our minds. I think a lot of marriage problems come from just not understanding how your spouse sees the world.

    Toxic femininity

For years I really struggled with Genesis 3:16, especially "thy desire shall be to thy husband, and he shall rule over thee," but one day in church I learned to see it as not just Eve's curse but also Adam's. Even though God was directing the curse at Eve explicitly, I believe it's actually a...

    Apocrypha

Someone in my Sunday school class recently mentioned the Apocrypha. I honestly had no idea these other books existed. I did some searches online and see that some churches reject it, and it doesn't seem to be a part of most Bibles, but it made me curious.... are there any parts of it worth...

Men can you tell if another man is good-looking?

I think men are just WAY more visual and it seems like you guys will walk straight into a wall looking at certain types of women. (By the way we see you checking out other women all the time because you are worried about whether she sees you checking her out, not other people around you.) I...

    TRANSGENDERISM

Haha he had to some last year and that definitely made him realize all the work I do at home! He's been back at work for a while now though thankfully.

Men can you tell if another man is good-looking?

This thread made me laugh and it was fun reading all the male responses. It reminds me of when my husband is watching baseball and I say a certain player is cute and he seems totally floored by it lol. It seems like men just have this general resistance to admitting ANY guy is attractive. I...

Raise your hand if you got the vaccine

All of this stuff is so over my head it's hard to even respond to it, but you said something that made me realize that a lot of people that use all these "science" arguments to support the vaccine sound a lot like people that are absolutely convinced evolution is the truth. All this stuff about...

    TRANSGENDERISM

This whole subject has always disturbed and grossed me out so much. But as a stay at home mom, it feels good reading this and being reminded that we can still insulate our kids from this insanity. There is hope.

As a wife, which comes first, house holding or seeking God?..

Nicely said and I think it's true the other way around too. When our husbands make us happy, they make God happy as well. We have that basic duty to each other even if we have different roles in the home.
