I do not take it personally or take offense. No, I do not know greek. I have read many scholarly papers on the greek over the past few months in which disputed passages and disputed translations are debated and discussed and where greek is explained. But no, I have not been taught greek. So I...

    The cultic origins of Annihilationism

If anyone needs a super decoder ring I've got a few extras.

Yep, got it. Death does not mean death. Death means eternal life of eternal torment. It appears that satan got it right when he said you will not really die...

    The cultic origins of Annihilationism

Yes, dead people held in hell until the judgement and second death. Er....I guess that's been changed now to: dead people held in hell until the resurrection, judgement and second life...

    The cultic origins of Annihilationism

How is one eternally dead if one is not dead? This is some strange twist on the you will not really die in the garden. Because now eternally dead is being made to mean eternally alive. And it's as if eternally dead has now become not enough punishment. Now, eternally alive is the punishment...

Sometimes you do not disagree respectfully. It is an insult to say so? Dino is not the only one who has noted that you don't always disagree respectfully.

    The cultic origins of Annihilationism

Sharing your thoughts is different than pronouncing yourself right and everyone else wrong. This is your habit. You never learn anything new. You can't, because you know it all already. And 40 years of study does not mean you are right on everything. The Pharisees spent their entire lifetime on...

Wonderful and thought provoking conversation with you guys today, as always. Stayed up till 2:30 yesterday so need more sleep tonight. Don't talk about anything good while I'm gone. :p

I'm not certain on your chosen words "obliterating everyone equally." Jesus spoke of how it would be more tolerable for Sodom on the day of judgement than it would be for certain other sinners. It's always intrigued me.

    The cultic origins of Annihilationism

First, no, I do NOT mean they are in contradiction with each other. It APPEARS to us as if they are until we understand them. Take one of magentas earlier posts where she lists a bunch of scriptures. They are some of the ones I'm talking about. BUT, you are so convinced you know everything about...

I think you need to learn that you don't know everything and that there is still more to learn - even for you. :)

    The cultic origins of Annihilationism

I think we all have accepted some things without examining them. Given how much Jesus warned about the teaching/leaven of men, we'd be fools to think we haven't unknowingly swallowed some.

And the other thing that bothers me dcon, is that eternal life is in the Son and I don't think men are born with eternal life in them. I see being eternally alive/existing as having eternal life. Admittedly, men say that eternal life will be of torture and torment, but it is still eternal life.

    The cultic origins of Annihilationism

Yes, I believe what the bible states. No offense taken. :giggle: This is what always bothers me though. For every verse, there are verses in tension to it, verses that appear contradictory. And I am like a dog with a bone until I can understand them together. I don't like the whole set up in...

What does it mean to live holy?

It's perfectly okay to ask. I don't mind sharing my agonies and...stress. :) It was like this with me: I met God and received the Holy Spirit. I used to always have a sense of His presence where I would be covered in goosebumps and feel like...waves washing over and through me. At some point...

It doesn't work unless you admit ALL of the verses together. Without the verses AND the verses that appear to be contradictory/in tension to, as a friend would say, you are only a half baked cake.

What does it mean to live holy?

It was impossible to do when I tried hard to do it. I tried for many years but I would always fail at some point and then would come depression. The only way I began to see small victories was after I stopped trying to finish in my flesh what had begun in the Spirit. With men, it is...

    The cultic origins of Annihilationism

The smoke of their torment rising forever does not, in my opinion, have to mean that THEY are in torment forever. And when you put all of the verses together, including the ones that seem to say something other than eternal pain and suffering, then you are getting somewhere. Then you are...
