I'm not a fan of Alpha myself...depends on who is teaching the course I guess

but yes, the Holy Spirit is still active in this world

one thing that actually does stop the moving of the Spirit of God is intellectual pride and of course we also have outright rejection...which can be caused by fear, ignorance and even a desire to control others

well! human emotions and action can STOP God! who knew?
get serious.
but this is a Pentecostal canard that is used to cover such sinful behavior as jabbering and pretending to announce prophecies etc.

Of course the Holy Spirit is still active in the world. Without the Holy Spirit no man would be saved.

John 16:6 But because I have said these things unto you, sorrow hath filled your heart.
7 ¶ Nevertheless I tell you the truth; It is expedient for you that I go away: for if I go not away, the Comforter will not come unto you; but if I depart, I will send him unto you.
8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment:
9 Of sin, because they believe not on me;
10 Of righteousness, because I go to my Father, and ye see me no more;
11 Of judgment, because the prince of this world is judged.
12 I have yet many things to say unto you, but ye cannot bear them now.
13 Howbeit when he, the Spirit of truth, is come, he will guide you into all truth: for he shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever he shall hear, that shall he speak: and he will shew you things to come.
14 He shall glorify me: for he shall receive of mine, and shall shew it unto you.

Tit 3:5 Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;

The will of man often attempts to mimic the will of God through the Holy Spirit but the Holy Spirit acts in concert with the word of God and at the direct command of the Father.

speaking as a true preterist

folks...maybe you should check up on preterism before taking zone's posts too seriously

she thinks there is basically nothing left to fulfill

understand, that preterists do NOT believe as most of us here do

so, let's just be honest about that

preterist away...we have nothing to discuss and mockery seems to be more your thing than mine

I was wondering what the bee in your bonnet was...why so angry and mocking...

well, relief is at hand...my last post to you..and yes yes...you are glad etc etc etc...whatevah

Baptism of the Holy Spirit does not give you tongues, or any other "gift of the spirit" they come from the anointing of the spirit.

The is baptism of the holy spirit.

Rom 6 "baptized into his death and burial"

1 Cor 12 "baptized into Christ"

Col 2 "circumcision made without hands of men, but by the hands of God"

Titus 3: 5. Saved by the WASHING and renewal (new birth) of the Holy Spirit.

I was filled with the Holy Spirit without anyone laying hands on me and I know of many just like me.

I have seen many claim to have anointing of the Holy Spirit and preach heresy, singing "spiritual" songs
while preaching heresy, have glassy eyed believers and preaching heresy.

The Holy Spirit anoints many and shows His love to their hearts.
But emotional elation has been confused with such things.

Many years ago a man laid hands on me, and obviously was disappointed when I did not
immediately fall to the ground. I mean it obviously was not going according to plan.

But equally I have sung in the spirit because the Lord anointed me and it was truly
beautiful. When we construct moves of the Lord, He often chooses a different avenue,
but when we just seek Him and give Him the praise He is due, He anoints us with wonder
and glory. What a King.

Zone isn't the only person on CC that believes in the cessation of gifts. Just because you seem to have a personal issue with zone doesn't mean you have the right to belittle the entire belief system as many on cc agree with partial preterism and wound like to discus is maturely but few are willing to do that. Being "right" in their own belief is what most people care more about than actually learning something.

I'm a hands off kind of person myself

lay hands on no man (woman) suddenly and all that

yes, I know I am kind of taking that verse out of context...but I meanz it!

why do people who obviously do not know the facts about their chosen topic ask questions as though they might actually consider an answer different then the one they already hold near and dear to their hearts?

it IS mind boggling how folks can ignore scripture and yet try to tell others who have a different and SCRIPTURAL experience to the contrary, that they are wrong

I have no idea why you would insert Matthew 7:7 into the equation

what do you think ask, seek and find applies to?

what are we finding?

God IS Spirit...He does not reside only in the pages of scripture..we define the truth through those pages, but we can also EXPERIENCE that same truth

could please show me where in the scriptures it is taught one receives baptism through imitation. This is a supernatural gift from God for believers for their benefit. (a purpose for this gift): 1 Corinthians 12:1 Now concerning spiritual gifts, brethren, I would not have you ignorant. 1 Corinthians 12:7-11 But the manifestation of the Spirit is given to every man to profit withal. For to one is given by the Spirit the word of wisdom; to another the word of knowledge by the same Spirit; To another faith by the same Spirit; to another the gifts of healing by the same Spirit; To another the working of miracles; to another prophecy; to another discerning of spirits; to another divers kinds of tongues; to another the interpretation of tongues: But all these worketh that one and the selfsame Spirit, dividing to every man severally as he will.
As to Matthew 7:7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you: If you continue to Matthew 7:11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him? that is why I quoted verse 7 or a better quote would be Luke 11:13 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children: how much more shall your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to them that ask him?
The Word of God is our guide line for salvation. The Holy Spirit is our teacher and guide. We received him through the baptism of repentance but Jesus wants all believers to be empowered through the baptism of the Holy Spirit only HE can give Acts 2:1-4 And when the day of Pentecost was fully come, they were all with one accord in one place. And suddenly there came a sound from heaven as of a rushing mighty wind, and it filled all the house where they were sitting. And there appeared unto them cloven tongues like as of fire, and it sat upon each of them. And they were all filled with the Holy Ghost, and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.
In Galatians 5:19-21 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. This practice is not of the Spirit but of the flesh, that is why I stated this practice is dangerous,

How many different occasions was there a baptism
lf the Holy Spirit in the Bible? The day of Pentecost and Cornelius and his household. Where else is it recorded?

theres one more with the disciples of John, i can't remember were though.

Acts 10:45-47King James Version (KJV)

45 And they of the circumcision which believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because that on the Gentiles also was poured out the gift of the Holy Ghost.
46 For they heard them speak with tongues, and magnify God. Then answered Peter,
47 Can any man forbid water, that these should not be baptized, which have received the Holy Ghost as well as we?

Acts 19:5-6King James Version (KJV)

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

[h=1]Acts 8:14-20King James Version (KJV)[/h]14 Now when the apostles which were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent unto them Peter and John:
15 Who, when they were come down, prayed for them, that they might receive the Holy Ghost:
16 (For as yet he was fallen upon none of them: only they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.)
17 Then laid they their hands on them, and they received the Holy Ghost.
18 And when Simon saw that through laying on of the apostles' hands the Holy Ghost was given, he offered them money,
19 Saying, Give me also this power, that on whomsoever I lay hands, he may receive the Holy Ghost.
20 But Peter said unto him, Thy money perish with thee, because thou hast thought that the gift of God may be purchased with money.

[h=1]Acts 9:17King James Version (KJV)[/h]17 And Ananias went his way, and entered into the house; and putting his hands on him said, Brother Saul, the Lord, even Jesus, that appeared unto thee in the way as thou camest, hath sent me, that thou mightest receive thy sight, and be filled with the Holy Ghost.

[h=1]Acts 19:1-7King James Version (KJV)[/h]19 And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,
2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.
3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.
4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.
5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

Yet you yourself have made a few snide remarks concerning certain beliefs where it is disrespectful toward others. The "speaking of tongues" as it's done today exists but is nothing miraculous. As a matter of fact is done in a way where Paul told others not to speak.

not all churches abuse it though, i have been to my fair share that have. but it's not supposed to be miraculous either, its a means of edifying or building up of oneself in faith.

Isa 29:13 says that people's worship of God is of man made rules and traditions. He also calls these worshippers hypocrites. It seems the only way God wants us to worship him is from his word and not the word of this church vs that church's traditions and doctrines.

Faith is not something that is blind, instead it is described as the complete opposite, through understanding and being certain. (Heb 11:1-2)

What do you think about this? And how do you think we can give the true worship that God desires?
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dave,

we worship Him according to His Will and according to His Word...it doesn't mean that we can't have
an on-going, personal communication with Him, for He is such an intimate God to each of us who s
Love and serve Him...

PS. 29:2.
Give unto the LORD the glory due unto His name; worship the LORD in the beauty of Holiness.

JOHN 4:24.
God is a Spirit: and they that worship Him must worship Him in Spirit and in Truth.

GAL. 5:22-23.
But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,
Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

this should be our attitude that we bring before Him in prayer and supplication.

How many different occasions was there a baptism
lf the Holy Spirit in the Bible? The day of Pentecost and Cornelius and his household. Where else is it recorded?

It was prophesied by John. Saying all would be baptized by the Holy Spirit. or fire.

It was foretold by Christ.

Anyone who is saved is baptized by the spirit. One of the signs (in the early church) someone was saved, is they had certain gifts.

This speaks of the "gift" of the spirit. not the baptism

Acts 19:5-6King James Version (KJV)

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.
6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.

This speaks of the "anointing" of the HS. not the baptism of the spirit.

yes, there is 'nothing new under the sun', but Jesus is very innovative/creative and will manifest His
ways and means in so many NEW wonders - a closed mind is a mind that will not/cannot receive
creative Spiritual Gifts...

our personal Testimony bears witness to the fact that the Lord is consistent and dynamic, He is a God
like a Beautiful Jewel that has many facets and many levels of revelation and understanding, we
cannot figure Him out, or put Him in any kind of BOX...

I was filled with the Holy Spirit without anyone laying hands on me and I know of many just like me.

This doctrine that you can only be filled by the laying on of hands is for the birds.

Sometimes the Lord uses the laying on of hands to release people into things and as a blessing. We see Jesus laying His hands on children as well as for administering healing in some cases.

I'm not against the laying on of hands - I simply said it is not needed to receive the filling of the Holy Spirit.
Check out Acts 10 - they were all filled with the Holy Spirit without Peter laying his hands on them.

Acts 10:43-46 (NASB)
[SUP]43 [/SUP] "Of Him all the prophets bear witness that through His name everyone who believes in Him receives forgiveness of sins."

[SUP]44 [/SUP] While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who were listening to the message.

[SUP]45 [/SUP] All the circumcised believers who came with Peter were amazed, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

[SUP]46 [/SUP] For they were hearing them speaking with tongues and exalting God. Then Peter answered,

I fully agree that the laying on of hands is not the only way a believer can be baptised in the Holy Spirit (with the evidence of speaking in tongues), in post #5 I felt that you were down playing the significance of it as it is the most mentioned way in the Scriptures for it to be received.

Apologies for the last sentence in Post #9...

well perhaps you can meet and have tea or something together

are you her lawyer? why do feel you have the need to tell me this? you think I don't know?

she isn't discussing...she is mocking and degrading...the other day we were all demonic according to her

you are doing EXACTLY what you say I should not do

Roger does not believe either and I expect to see him on every thread about it....but he reflects his beliefs with scripture

very big difference
