Have you been on a Dating App or Website?

My friend talked me into it. She met her guy online (they're married now for about the same about as me.) I went on to try it out and"just for fun." Didn't expect anything to happen with it.

Many years ago I tried about 4-5 dating sites.

Regarding eharmony, i appreciated the matching folks who are alike. However, at the time, they wanted you to go through the long messaging Q&A back and forth. That was not worthwhile to me because I found both of us got tired of this and stopped communicating.

I also found some women who, apparently, just wanted a penpal, but wasnt going to say so.

So, I would suggest to everyone, if you find someone you like, just ask them out immediately -- for a drink or coffee or dinner or an activity. Because some, for whatever reason, won't meet you in real life. So don't waste your time being a "penpal". They dont want to meet, move on.

That they may never want to meet you is a good enough reason to stop messaging. But besides that, I personally don't think you can know if you're a match until you meet.

I went on quite a few dates. Nothing worked out... but that had nothing to do with the website.

Regarding not getting responses - and giving responses...

Some people literally don't have time to reply to everyone. Therefore, if you don't get a reply, don't take it personally. Some don't check it regularly, or they only have time to reply to dates they can/will do. It's like sending out resumes... you aren't going to get 100% replies, so dont expect it.

I started out replying nicely to every inquiry... until I started spending my entire allotted time replying nicely. I didn't have time to look and contact peeps I would actually date. I'm sure the obvious snooty response would be "If you don't have time to reply to every inquiry than you shouldn't be on the site!" It's a nice perfect world judgmental thought, just not applicable to reality.

Regarding older women contacting me...
... and older/younger whatever... just my take: I just don't care. I'm never, never, never insulted by an inquiry. I'll contact older or younger, or whatever anyone thinks is too old or too young... I don't care what others think about that; I handle case-by-case.

Regarding "desire to chat"...
Some peeps are interested in chatting, or consider that a bad sign, cause some peeps don't want to meet. So that may be why you didn't get some replies.

Why'd you do that (looking for a "friend" or "activity partner")? You didn't want to find a mate? Or for some other reason?

In all honesty, I believe that friendship is foundational to any real relationship. I'm perfectly okay with being in the dreaded "friend zone", and, in fact, I prefer it because it takes all of the pressure off of both parties. If something develops out of that, then great. If not, then great, too.

Well for a very brief time I thought maybe I should give online dating a try. But it was expensive, I wasn't really that interested in finding someone immediately, there are plenty of horror stories out there, and I got really stuck when trying to write up the what I'm looking for in a guy or what kind of guy would make a good match for me for my profile...... so that never happened and I got a dog instead and yes I tell the dog I love her multiple times a day and she makes sure I get out for walks and playtime more so it seems to be a good match so far (and committing to her for the rest of her life isn't as big of a commitment).

my Third Wife i met on line dating site. married for 10 yrs longest of all my marriages. But ended the same

Hardly a new form. dating websites been around almost as long as porn websites lol and some do both activities so be careful.

it ought to be gifted

Did the Israelites have to BUY their land off the Canaanites. No, God gifted it to them, No He just divided the land up as an inheritance. The only time they ever bought land was for their burial plots.

Actually, God killed off the previous inhabitants. There are commodities and then there is real estate. The supply of certain commodities may rise or fall but the amount of real estate is finite.

not talking about killing people off I am talking about the actual land being GIFTED

not bought or sold

it was to be an inheritance in perpetuity
but the Isrealites were not that great in looking after it once they had it though.
 
If you have a gift you treasure it right? You keep it and you make use of it.

If you bought it yourself you could just sell it again for more money, because you dont actually value it.
 
I think likewise with people, we dont or try not to treat people as commodiities to be bought or sold, but for centuries brides had been bought or sold off to be married in just this way.
