I'm not really hypocritical of people because I generally just tune them out. Excuses are generally an explanation about why someone has fallen short of the target. I am more of a results orientated person. Even so, I usually have an excuse at the ready for any given contingency or situation. An excuse that is well explained is better than simply giving someone the finger and telling them to get a life.I apologize about my wording, it probably reflects my own confusion with this topic.
I do think there are positive and negative excuses and I don’t think they are always bad. I’m sure some of them are actually explanations, but are they always necessary?
The vagueness probably doesn’t help, but I’m not personally talking about any one circumstance.
I really think you are right about living in a time where people are hypercritical of people. This would in turn cause insecurities and may make people feel the need to explain or make an excuse for decisions.
A silly example, my grandmother feels she needs to explain why or make an excuse if she doesn’t want to attend church for a day. Maybe she worries about judgment. I wouldn’t feel the need to explain why.
Just some thoughts.

I don't agree completely, but I think we're generally on the same page. To me, excuses are an attempt to make failure acceptable and forgiveness (or indulgence) obligatory. Some people seem to think that their failure (or sin) must be overlooked because of all the contributing factors (and a few feel the need to list them at length). It seems to be a combination of entitlement, lack of understanding of responsibility, and sin nature that desires to avoid any negative consequences for one's actions.Excuses are nothing more then sin gratified.
I am sorry to hear that. Can't imagine how hard that would have been. That hurts! Many things happen in our lives that can influence us negatively. Sometimes we use those experiences as an excuse for our behavior.
I grew up with a father who was ashamed of me, was emotionally abusive at times and rarely said anything kind to me.
He's told me it's because he didn't have a good father figure in his life, and the one he did have was an alcoholic.
I've told my Dad on more than one occasion, that's a REASON you are the way you are, it's not an excuse for it.
It sure does sometimes. Especially when the accuser tries to wound me again in the same way.I am sorry to hear that. Can't imagine how hard that would have been. That hurts!
I deal with that with my dad...mostly verbal abuse .. but when it happens I feel Gods peace and presence... may sound strange but he’s right there with me...It sure does sometimes. Especially when the accuser tries to wound me again in the same way.
I'm so thankful that I have victory in Jesus! ❤
Praise God!I deal with that with my dad...mostly verbal abuse .. but when it happens I feel Gods peace and presence... may sound strange but he’s right there with me...
