Glasses are completely fine. You're probably even better off if you find yourself in a situation with a guy who also wears glasses, as it is an easy conversation starter. Most people will just get the impression you are smart and well read, yes. Far from a bad thing.

My father wore coke-bottle-bottom glasses for many years before lasik, and he just needs readers now. If you can afford the procedure it might make life quite a bit simpler in between wearing them.

I wear glasses for driving or when I go out, but I actually see computer screens or close-up more easily and naturally without them. I don't usually wear them for selfies, but it also doesn't bug me to wear them for family pics or other people taking pictures. My right eye is extremely nearsighted and my left one is somewhat nearsighted, so my problems boil down more to depth perception.

Really, if you are confident about yourself, that makes far more of an impression than a pair of glasses either way.

Lol.... On a side note, my eyesight is so bad that I need my glasses to find my glasses. The last time I found myself in this predicament I was mowing the yard and a tree branch knocked my glasses off! Must have crawled around for an hour hoping I have not ran them over....

Most people would think this is a joke, but I can totally relate!!!

Back when I wore contacts, if I took them out and put on glasses, if I misplaced my glasses in an unfamiliar spot, I would then have to put my contacts back in... to be able to find my glasses.

This was the first year I splurged on a back-up pair of glasses (in addition to my regular pair), and it's been worth every last penny.

Unfortunately, I never qualify for those, and have to pay for everything out of pocket.

It's also the reason why I put off getting my prescription updated longer than I probably should, and can't rely on old glasses as a backup, because they'll give me migraines.

Been in the States all my life. :)

*Seoulsearch prepares to give an account of her visual history that no one wants to hear.*

My eyes, from day one, have always been my biggest health challenge. I had to have some surgical corrections as a kid (henceforth, my extreme avoidance of any further surgical procedures if at all possible), and a specialist said I would go blind in my 20's if they weren't taken care of.

Due to the grace of God, I am over twice that age and can still see perfectly fine--but with glasses. My eyes are such that even the softest contacts feel like shards of glass in my eyes and I most likely am not a candidate for Lasik or other such procedures. I also go to specialized doctors because I am higher risk for certain eye conditions that I get tested for every year.

Because of this, I have to really go an extra mile (or hundred) when it comes to my eyes. I spend more on the care of my eyes than all my other healthcare put together, but I'm just thankful that I am able to have normal (albeit, corrected) vision.

Hey Everyone,

A conversation with some fellow CC'ers had me thinking about my lifelong arch nemesis - wearing a pair of glasses.

Now first let me say that like many things in life, I have absolutely NOTHING against glasses in general and love them ON OTHER PEOPLE, but for me personally, I've fought against wearing glasses all my life, and unfortunately, lost the battle.

The main issues I have with glasses are that:

1. Due to various (but correctable) optical challenges, my prescription is always unbearably heavy, even though I pay extra to have them ground down to be supposedly as thin as possible. Glasses, to me personally, are an uncomfortable burden.

2. Unfortunately, my contact-wearing days are long gone, and I'm terrified of any permanent procedures like Lasik (plus, I was told I'd probably have to wear reading glasses anyway, so why even bother.)

3. I am a child of the 80's, and back then, wearing glasses was NOT considered cool at all. Most of us grew up on teen romances in which some nerdy girl who disappeared into the background is transformed into a 10+ swan, and what's the first thing they always do?

They take away those "horrible, nerdy, uncool" glasses - and put her in a pair of contacts. Can anyone think of even one "ugly duckling to swan" story in which a girl is still allowed to wear glasses? But what about people who can't or don't want to wear contacts?

And if I really break it down.. I was afraid that if I had to wear glasses all the time, people would see me as this boring, introverted girl who mostly reads in her spare time. In other words, I was afraid - that they were going to see the REAL me.

However, one of the modern trends I've been very happy to "see" (bad pun intended), is that glasses have become not only acceptable, but are now even seen as a bit of a statement and cool fashion accessory. Even though I still wouldn't wear them if I had a choice, I know I'm a lot less self-conscious of them than when I was a kid.

And I sure hope there are a lot fewer kids out there who feel like they have to pretend they don't need glasses just because they're afraid they'll be made fun of.

How about the rest of you?

* Do you wear glasses? Do you like wearing them, or no? Why or why not?

* Would you/do you choose not wear glasses if you are able, and why?

* How do you feel about other people who wear glasses - do you find them to be an attractive feature? Why or why not, or does it just depend (if so what does it depend on?)

I personally love it when a person's glasses make a statement about the person's style or personality. I love it when a person isn't afraid to wear something totally quirky, but yet you know they're being their authentic self. :)

How about you?
I wear glasses (near sighted) I use to hate wearing them in highschool but now that I'm older I love wearing them since finding different styles and sizes I actually like.
I use to not ever wear them but then my eyesight got worse so now I wear them all the time, even if I don't need to.
I don't really find glasses attractive or unattractive. Guess it depends on the persons take on glasses really. Like if they find a pair that actually suits their face shape. Or maybe they have different pairs for special occasions or what have you (which I think is cool lol ) I very much agree to a statement pair

Wow... I thought I was bad LOL. I was born extremely farsighted + 8, severe astigmatism and in my later years developed retinopathy. I'm not correctable to 20/20 anymore but I can still see! I try not to drive at night lol

1,000$ per eye 👁 for surgery
I've done some research, and have even found cheaper prices for surgery, but in my case I would definitely still need glasses so... I just don't see the point. At 53 it wouldn't make much of a difference in my lifestyle anyway LOL

They're okay. I used to wear them, but I always broke them. I might get another pair eventually to wear at night, but I much prefer contacts.

I think people can look attractive with glasses on. This girl for example:

She's pretty, but in reality, I'm really just looking past the glasses at the face. So I would say that attractive people can make glasses an attractive accessory, but I don't think the glasses themselves make anyone attractive.
