Heya. Sooooooo, my best friend is a Christian, and he goes to Purdue University. He was walking out of class one day, and another student, who was a mormon, called out to him about his sweater. My friend is a very friendly guy, so he decided to go ahead and respond to him, and make a few jokes :p They talked for a bit, and like mormons always do, he told him that he was one, and talked about their prophet and all that :p My friend told him that he was a Christian, as well. So this mormon invited him to meet with him later that day.

My friend came and visited with me for a bit before going. He thought about taking me with him, but thought that it was just gonna be the one mormon and him, and didnt wanna make him uncomfortable. But turns out, when he got there, the mormon had two friends with him, haha. They talked for a bit, and I guess my friend actually stumped them on a few things :p But he said that they actually knew the bible better than he did.

These mormons are very friendly, btw. There was no war or heated battle, they are very open to talking about the bible, I have texted with the one he met a bit, and he was very friendly, and totally responded positively to comments I made about God, even rejoicing with me.

Neither of us know much about the mormons, we know that they do not believe that Christ and God are one. We know that they believe that Joseph Smith was visited by an angel that called himself "Moroni", and given a new gospel (which neither of us doubt, btw. We believe its basically the same thing that happened to Muhammad) We know that they believe that Christ came to the US to preach. But we still dont know a whole lot about them. I know that believing that Christ is not God is a bad thing (John 8:24) And I know that we are warned of anyone who adds or takes away from the Gospel we have been given by Christ, whether it be by man, or angel.

I was hoping maybe people who know about this better than we do could give us some help. They are clearly trying to bring my friend (and will probly do the same to me when we meet :p) into their faith. But we kinda thought we could use this opportunity to bring the Gospel, and share with them the warning of false prophets, and angels who give men false doctrines in order to lead them away from God into condemnation, and share the good news of our salvation through God :3 I have a few things I could share, but if you guys have anything that could help, Id really really appreciate it :3
 
I'm confused. Why are you going?? It sounds like you are interested in going to try to put out a house fire with a glass of water.

The Jesus that the Mormons recognize is not the Jesus of the bible. Jesus is the Son of God, Jesus is Jehovah God incarnate. Mormons accept Jesus as another prophet albeit a great prophet.

Mormons are imposters. When you meet with them focus on Jesus, His divinity, and His Eternal nature. Jesus resurrected bodily from the tomb proving that He is God.

How so? We are both 100% committed to the Gospel of Christ, haha :p

Oh, and actually my friend already told them that Christ was God, and that he would not let someone lead him away from the truth of Christ.
 
I know mormons believe when Jesus was crucified he went to the USA to preach.

I insisted the talk about the gospel of grace, they were more unsure on that subject.
I asked them what was in the book of Mormon that was not in the bible in relation to what we need to know to live an ever holier life. After a couple of attempts they gave up trying to find anything. I questioned then why the book of Mormon was needed for instructional purposes

He said when looking through it real fast, he found a verse where their god says "I will make you a lion among lambs" or something like that.

When he told me about that, it gave me chills, bad ones. Thats like the exact reverse of what were warned of in the bible.
 
if you choose to walk through the door that is being opened before you,
you must consider this;
Paul's command to not be carried away with every wind of doctrine'....

if we lack a good or solid foundation in the scriptures, it's really not time
to be influenced by any denomination or belief....

it's time to fulfill the scripture to study and show ourselves approved of God
as a good workman, rightly dividing the Word of Truth....

a Christian Soldier must be wise enough and strong enough to wield the Sword of The Spirit.....

read it carefully. you will find

1 it contradicts the word of God (our bible)
2. It contradicts itself. in the 1st chapter, they are told to follow the law of moses until the messiah comes, yet they start following the nt laws, and stop following the OT laws before christ even came

It also sounds very king jamesese.. So it is easily seen as a fraud..

They will not listen to you on our bible. according to them, our bible was for people of the oT and Jesus day, their bible is for us (thus later day saint)
 
They used these verses in Ezek to justify their book of Mormaon.

Ezek 37:15 ¶ The word of the LORD came again unto me, saying,
16 Moreover, thou son of man, take thee one stick, and write upon it, For Judah, and for the children of Israel his companions: then take another stick, and write upon it, For Joseph, the stick of Ephraim, and for all the house of Israel his companions:
17 And join them one to another into one stick; and they shall become one in thine hand.
18 And when the children of thy people shall speak unto thee, saying, Wilt thou not shew us what thou meanest by these?
19 Say unto them, Thus saith the Lord GOD; Behold, I will take the stick of Joseph, which is in the hand of Ephraim, and the tribes of Israel his fellows, and will put them with him, even with the stick of Judah, and make them one stick, and they shall be one in mine hand.
20 And the sticks whereon thou writest shall be in thine hand before their eyes.

This prophecy is not about joining the OT with the book of Mormon. Better to suggest it is the joining of the OT and the NT.

They say that those who are resposible for identifying counterfeit money study the real bills over and over, so that they have such knowledge of the real thing, if they come across a counterfeit bill, they can spot it easily. Make sure you are standing solidly on the Solid Rock of our salvation, pray and have on the full armor of God.These ppl are well schooled an sent out. Don't let appearances and niceties fool you, they are only puppets to more sinister forces. If you sense something is amiss, politely end it and walk away, you can always pick it up later.The enemy seeks to devour, don't let it guilt you into thinking you're not doing God's will or being disobedient or not having enough faith. Jesus loves you, and I believe He would rather keep you from harm than to have to clean up unnecessary wounds later. Not trying to scare you, just speaking out of love and concern for you, if you're unsure about this, don't go, otherwise...Go in God's grace, and in the power of His might...let the joy of the Lord be your strength. God bless you for wanting to help those ppl be transferred from darkness to light...keep in mind, that's what they think they're doing for you. Just remember our Lord Jesus Christ has already won the victory...over sin, the enemy and death. Praise God from whom all blessings flow!:)

It honestly DOES sound like you are spoiling for a fight... or, at least, hoping to somehow either show them up or prove a point. Are you fully convinced that you are meeting with them to do no more than show Jesus' love in the way you treat them as fellow humans?

My suggestion is not to go unless that is your only goal. Your words and argument are not going to sway them one bit. They are trained to engage in this sort of sparring.... and did you notice that Jesus never told us to train to defeat others in arguments?
 
Unfortunately I don't recall too much; I was baptized Mormon. New to the faith scene and a tad naive. Frankly I have nothing bad to say about the people, they were all very friendly and kind, actually they had a really neat woman's study group. They want you to swear that 'this is the True Church of Jesus Christ' infront of the whole congregation. Actually participation during church was encouraged and they would have guest speakers of the congregation share stories of their testimony.

Prayer was important and so was the Holy Spirit. Having a relationship with God was paramount. I don't recall how they viewed Jesus!? Some people on this thread have stated He's a prophet to the Mormons; but I'm pretty sure they viewed Him as the Son of God and the Trinity. My mind is foggy on that. The Book of Mormon wasn't really featured that much, primarily studied King James O/T and N/T.

Why did I leave? It was too over-whelming. I wasn't well versed in the scripture yet so obviously I couldn't discern what was expected or culture; but there was much pressure for young women to meet someone and marry!! Like, immediately!! Emphasis on family is huge!

Young teenage pupils would go and get a prophetic writing about them...they would meet with someone assigned and they would give them a document (prediction) of their life. So that would determine if they were meant for a 'mission' and where around the world.

Salt Lake City is obviously the Mecca of Mormon faith; everyone wants to go there one day and meet 'the living prophet' and they do have 'living apostles.' Salt Lake City Temple is THE TEMPLE of the LORD and only the purest of the pure may enter by invite only. So common Christians like you and myself are forbidden to enter the sacred forum of the Salt Lake Temple.

Anyway; they follow the same premise as everyone else; do not steal, no sex before marriage- I was expressed to also refrain from alcohol, smoking, caffeine. The whole state of the Mormon faith is to become purified. It's a very stressful mentality!

Nah, no fighting. Theyre 100% open to talking about the bible, they even started the conversation to begin with :p

We will talk with them, and share the word of God, and have hope that maybe they can see that the word of Christ was right on its own, and didnt need more added onto it by false prophets. The worse that will happen is that they wont listen to it and stay with the faith the were raised into.

If they wanna talk about the bible, Id like to think that I can come and share Gods word over hide in my room and do nothing at all :p I dont hate these people in anyway.

Haha, Im not looking for a different answer, so no need to worry about that yeah :p

But you make an awesome point, I actually learned that from a good Christian teacher before :p If someone brings up a verse to you that you dont understand, its totally right to say you dont know that one yet, and will look into it yourself, and good study it yourself. I wont let someone twisting a verse that I dont yet understand lead me away from what is true, and am totally willing to look into it myself without letting my faith be worn out, yeah :p But thats a really good thing to remember, yeah.

And I actually feel fine about it, I dont feel worried about it so much. And Im kinda hopeful about it in a way, I mean, they do come from a people that do believe in Christ, in a way, and dont deny Him, so I think they will be way more open to the idea of coming to Him than people from other doctrines. But yeah, Ill definitely keep what you said in mind, yeah :3
