But you make an awesome point, I actually learned that from a good Christian teacher before :p If someone brings up a verse to you that you dont understand, its totally right to say you dont know that one yet, and will look into it yourself, and good study it yourself. I wont let someone twisting a verse that I dont yet understand lead me away from what is true, and am totally willing to look into it myself without letting my faith be worn out, yeah :p But thats a really good thing to remember, yeah.

And I actually feel fine about it, I dont feel worried about it so much. And Im kinda hopeful about it in a way, I mean, they do come from a people that do believe in Christ, in a way, and dont deny Him, so I think they will be way more open to the idea of coming to Him than people from other doctrines. But yeah, Ill definitely keep what you said in mind, yeah :3

I used to live in a neighborhood full of mormons. They are some of the nicest people I knew, but their book of mormon is scary. Another dangerous thing with them is that they hold their book of mormon above the bible. They use the book of mormon as the "interpreter" of our king James scripture. Honestly, it's better to talk to them outside your house rather than invite them in. They will have you set up to be baptized in their faith within a week if your not careful, lol.

These mormons are very friendly, btw. There was no war or heated battle, they are very open to talking about the bible, I have texted with the one he met a bit, and he was very friendly, and totally responded positively to comments I made about God, even rejoicing with me.

Neither of us know much about the mormons, we know that they do not believe that Christ and God are one. We know that they believe that Joseph Smith was visited by an angel that called himself "Moroni", and given a new gospel (which neither of us doubt, btw. We believe its basically the same thing that happened to Muhammad) We know that they believe that Christ came to the US to preach. But we still dont know a whole lot about them. I know that believing that Christ is not God is a bad thing (John 8:24) And I know that we are warned of anyone who adds or takes away from the Gospel we have been given by Christ, whether it be by man, or angel.

I was hoping maybe people who know about this better than we do could give us some help. They are clearly trying to bring my friend (and will probly do the same to me when we meet :p) into their faith. But we kinda thought we could use this opportunity to bring the Gospel, and share with them the warning of false prophets, and angels who give men false doctrines in order to lead them away from God into condemnation, and share the good news of our salvation through God :3 I have a few things I could share, but if you guys have anything that could help, Id really really appreciate it :3

Keep in mind that Mormons are no different than any other religious group, and that their understanding of the very Doctrine that makes them distinctive ranges from nominal to fanatical. This is why Mormons have the good sense to usually pair a learner with a more seasoned adherent.

They are going to have apologetic material they have studied to combat the objections raised by Christians, so, rather than study Mormon Doctrine, you need only study Scripture itself in regards to the doctrinal distinctives of this group.

Probably the one I think takes priority, as it does in every discussion, is salvation. Keeping Christ central to the approach will benefit, particularly, as one member already posted on, the Deity of Christ.

Mormons are not confronted with the suggestion that Christ is God, because they believe that if their works are good enough, one day, they too will be gods. They have a saying, "What man is, God once was, and, what God is, man can be (or will be, can't remember right off the top of my head)."

That being said, if you can show the Eternality of the Son of God, how that He was always God, the Incarnation not being like unto the progression they adhere to, but simply a matter of God veiling His glory in human flesh, rather than being born and being such a great guy He was then elevated to the status He is exalted to in Scripture.

Just as a suggestion, take a look at Revelation 1:

Most will agree that this refers to God, the Almighty.

Here it might be debated Who is in view.

But as we go on, we see that the voice he hears is also accompanied by a Person:

So Who is this?

It is made clear in the next few verses:

Now notice that we cannot mistake Who is in view, it is Jesus Christ, the Son of the Living God, right?

He is saying "I am the First and the Last," which is just another way of saying "I am Alpha (the first letter of the Hebrew alphabet) and Omega (the last letter of the Hebrew Alphabet)."

So one either recognizes Christ as God or they deny what Christ Himself says here.

Now, as to the Eternality of the Son of God, consider:


Isaiah 41:4

Now the second quote from Isaiah makes a couple of pretty clear statements, which I will just emphasize to point out:

Now either God has changed His mind about there being no other gods besides Himself, or this means what it says. This undercuts the multiplicity of gods the Mormons teach, as well as the diminishing of the Person of Christ. It also points out that God is the redeemer, which, if Christ were just a mere man who is exalted, then we see another change in the Doctrine of the Bible...this would mean that God is no longer the redeemer, no longer the Savior, but a man is, if Christ was just a man.

But we see that Christ states He is God, not a god, not one of the gods, and certainly not just a spirit being.

Now how we tie that into a soteriological context is that Scripture is pretty clear that there is nothing man can do to save himself. If there were works available, then Christ is dead in vain (for nothing).

God is, and always has been...the Savior. That did not change when He took upon Himself the form of a man and died in man's stead.

Anything written beyond the book of Revelation is not scripture, and is therefore false doctrine. I mean you can write a book of advise, your experiences, or what the bible means to you, but if you write something and tell others that this new writing is Gods commands, after Jesus says scripture is finished and complete, the bible says the wrath of God will come upon you. Anyone who knowingly promotes such writings as Gods truth, and His commands, will receive Gods wrath. When the blind lead the blind both will fall into a pit.

The bible has everything we need, so if you add to that, you are only adding what you don't need. (2Timothy 3:16,17).

"They worship Me in vain, teaching as doctrine the commands of men." Matthew 15:19
 
I've read stories about people that have broken away from the LDS only to be sucked back in because their pride and ego wouldn't let them pass up the chance to become a god.
