Yes... Matchbox currently has a line called "Moving Parts". On a recent trip to Ohio, I was able to acquire several of those, and a few older models from the era when such parts were common. There are many such in my collection.
My mother used to collect tea cups w/saucers. Anywhere special we went, a cup and saucer would be purchased. Our china cabinet had a lot of dinnerware in it and also those, which really filled it up to jam packed. I inherited two of them from her when she passed: the silver anniversary one, and one with purple flowers on it. I used to collect coffee mugs, but have had to get more realistic about the space I have for such things, and so I have gotten rid of a lot of mine. That was not an easy thing to do LOL. And for the amount of tea I actually drink any more, I have an amazing collection. It sits year after year... I did used to drink quite a bit of herbal tea, mixing my own concoctions... and in my late teens and early twenties, tea was my drink of choice rather than coffee. I drank so much Red Rose that the tannins started bothering me! That is why I stopped drinking it.When I wrote this thread, I was thinking of something along the lines of coffee mugs, because I've known even single people who live alone and yet have a coffee mug collection that looks like this:
I now have to remind myself NOT to pick up coffee mugs from places/events/organizations that are giving them away for free (unless it's a REALLY special mug,) and have pared down my stash to a regular rotation of about 5 all-time favorites.
My #1 morning Coffee Mug of Choice is a Purple Minion whom I've affectionately named, "Charlie."
As you can see, Charlie doesn't do mornings, but I am very much a morning person, so he mostly sleeps while I go about gearing up for the day.
I was getting stomach cramps from it. Oofta.
When I first came out west, I discovered Constant Comment. It was pretty amazing!
That was quickly followed by many Celestial Seasonings herbal blends.
It is the same advice we got from our mothers: "Don't run with scissors."I must ask, what is the secret to scratching one's back with a pair of scissors without hurting yourself?!
I am always sitting down when I scratch my back with a pair of scissors.
And the scissors are always closed. LOL

I've recently noticed that, unwittingly and not on purpose, I have amassed an embarrassing amount of -- toilet paper.
When we had 4 children in the house we went through that stuff like hot cakes. Then the kids left. At some point I realized that we now have enough toilet paper to last until the Rapture, no matter how long it is until that blessed event occurs.
During COVID I never needed to shop for toilet paper as we had more than enough as I would always stock up when there was a good price for the stuff. After COVID (are we after yet?) I bought some toilet paper in bulk for the new house when we were in the middle of a move. Now that the old house is sold and we're both in the new house, the toilet paper stashes are combined and ample. I will probably never need to buy toilet paper again in this life.

I still don't run with scissors. Hold them with the handles facing down. Heard the same thing from my mother.
I can so relate to this!!!
From watching my mom's example growing up, I learned to always stock up on things I'd always eventually need but never expire (especially if they were on sale.)
When news about the World Epidemic That Shall Not Be Named started to dribble through (no pun intended), I already had enough for several months. As the news became more frantic, I started buying ginormous packs from Sam's Club -- and just recently broke into the last pack. I have no regrets!
I kept a lot of it in my empty suitcases/boxes I kept around anyway, so it didn't take up much extra room and I basically had a stash everywhere you turned. My main concern at the time was that I'd have enough to share with family/friends, but they all had the same mindset, and had been stocking up for a while, too.
If anyone ever wanted to build a fort made out of toilet paper, I'm pretty sure my family could put up an entire castle.

Several month, eh?
I had enough for several years and with the kids gone now... and the extra I added when we bought the new house... I just didn't realize how much I had. The good news is I have 3 giant boxes (not counting newer purchases) with a total of about 150 rolls of some very high quality stuff on large rolls before they started calling a regular size roll a 4X roll and with the old dimensions before they cut the squares down to a more "petite" size.
For me, it's guns..... and pocket knives.
My hobby is shooting, reloading, and it used to include hunting as the end game... don't do very much hunting anymore, though. I've carried pocket knives since I was about 10 or so....
I see a particular firearm and think, now THAT would be fun to work up a good load for, and it would be great for pig hunting! (see above
)
For those not into guns, this is much like the gathering of tools for every purpose... or, a pair of shoes for every outfit.... and one .22 rimfire handgun is just not enough. I need 5 or 6 of them to fill different niches....
As is with most other hobbies, I could likely get by perfectly well with maybe 4 or 5 total... one for each perceived need, but... it's not about need....
Pocket knives are the same.... I could very likely get by with only one, but why limit myself if I don't have to? Variety being the spice that it is....

I know the can has apparently been kicked down the road (contract negotiations in January?), but when there was all that talk about the big port strike, I picked up another couple "Infinity" packs at Costco -- just in case.
And I like how you call some of your stash "very high quality stuff".
I buy the cheap stuff (but it HAS to be at least 2-ply,) but if I want "the good stuff" (Charmin extra quilted,) I head on over to my parent's.

Every thread needs a healthy dose of testosterone and I was actually thinking of guys I've known who collect pocket knives.
Not that women can't collect them either, and I'm sure they're out there, but I just haven't met any yet who get quite as excited about pocket knives as the gentlemen.

When my wife heard about the port strike she went out and bought a ton of bananas. I think she forgot they have a short shelf life.

papers that i have written or typed on. abouta foot stack worth, all over my room.

i also have around 100 pens, and recently added 50 to my collecton. you can never have too many pens... i usually have 17-50 on me at all times.

A recent study concluded that humans eat more bananas than monkeys.
It must be true! I can't remember the last time I ate a monkey!
