Hey Everyone,

I wanted to post this when I saw the 2025 Google Halloween "Doodle", which almost always has some kind of fun little playable game. As soon as I saw the graphic for this year's doodle, I couldn't help but grin from ear to ear!

All hail the infamous classic, Pac-Man!!!

Personally, I always felt sorry for the little orange ghost. All his friends got cute-sie little names like "Inky" and "Blinky" -- how in the world did he get stuck with "Clyde"?!

Pac-Man will forever be a part of my childhood because I remember when arcade games (as in, the actual machines) first came out, and one of my relatives worked at a store that had one. He would excitedly tell us about how it was a cultural phenomenon, and that the machine was always full (of quarters) every time they emptied it.

And of course, I remember the huge craze -- and controversy -- over Mortal Kombat.

I also love good old Super Mario Bros. because I grew up watching friends and family playing these games. I am TERRIBLE at them myself, but enjoy watching skilled players because I want to see them beat the Big Boss!!

I also loved Pitfall because I loved seeing the little alligators and treasures, such as gold and silver bars.

I remember watching a family member play and he finally got to an alligator pit that didn't have a vine to swing on --something we didn't realize would happen at the time. We were all like, "OH NO!!! There's no vine!!! What's he going to do NOW??!!" Thus came the endless experiment of how far, fast, and furious one had to jump and land safely on each alligator's head.

I also remember the good old days when gaming devices looked like this:

But my favorite game to actually play was always Hungry Hungry Hippos!

Pac Man, MS Pac Man, Defender, Galaga, Galaxian, Joust, Tempest, Robotron 2084, Centipede, Millipede, and I'm sure there were a few others that I can't recall right now. Those were fun days!

My favorite board games were Aggravation, Monopoly, Sorry, and others. Some kids liked playing "Life", but I was reluctant to play that one. I didn't like that I had to marry and have kids and such.

Favorite card games were Solotaire and Rummy.

Pac Man is mentioned, so I will again tell a story I have told here before:

Back in the live chat days there was a user called Bag-O-Squirrels. One day he recounted to us the first time he saw a Pac Man game. Back in the day he used to hang out at a bar, and one night a little low table showed up in the corner of the room.

"We all took a turn playing it... it was okay. Nothing great. But a couple of the boys went out and bought the home console version... And we never saw those dudes again!"

I was in my senior year of high school when arcade video games came out, so it's hard to relate. I was a master at pinball.

I remember watching someone playing asteroids in the arcade when it first showed up. When the game ended, I asked how many points you need to win a free game. He said, "you don't win free games, you just get to put your initials next to your score." I replied, "that's the dumbest thing I've ever heard. This will never catch on."
 
I liked Pokémon when I was younger, I played all of them, Black and White were my favorite/s, along with Platinum. Theres something special about playing a game for the first time when you're young, im pretty sure my first ever caught Pokémon was a hoot hoot. To this day, hes my favorite ❤️

I evolved him into a Noctowl and carried him all the way to the elite 4, with the move hypnotize he was OP

I guess to you that game was a real hoot to play. Bet you stayed up some nights like an owl playing it.

Tetris! An addictive game of puzzle mechanics which drilled me to strategically pack things like groceries. From the shopping trolley/cart, to my refrigerator and kitchen cupboards/cabinets. No wasted storage space.

Anyone who likes to put everything in its place will understand. :)

Last month the guy who invented Tetris died. When they placed his casket in the ground, the whole cemetery disappeared.

Flipper(i) which is just pinball in english, I think.. is awesome. I so want to play that now!

Commander Keen, which I just recently learned the name of, as it was typed 'keenl' in DOS on my computer.

Thanks! I was wondering what it was, played something like that on computer too. Also, brick or block breaker game was my favourite..

And this thread just made me play old games, but oh boy, are those money grabbers.. how did anyone afford to play all those addictive games back in the day!
