Macular Degeneration is no fun at all. There are two types, Wet and Age Related. Although I have plenty of years to call mine the latter, mine is Wet. Either form causes blindness eventually.

MD is a condition where spots form on the macula and begin to grow. Eventually they will begin to obstruct the vision. I have read that cataracts are operable, glaucoma is treatable, and MD is inevitable.

I have had this condition twenty-two years. When it first began I had no idea what was going one. I lost most of teh vision in one eye, legally blinded, over night. The other eye began at the same time but it did not advance rapidly, though it has steadily since that time

Oft times others will think one with MD is not really blind, and this is true to some extent. Although most people who are legally blind, even with the walking stick, can see some, but never quite as others do.

With MD, such as is my case at present, people go through a phase of seeing in stages of their line of sight, that is there are missing areas. I asked my doctor why it is I can see a car coming down the street, but I do not see the bus that is infront of it. This is when he explained to me how it works. Double vition is common, not to mention the hallucinations caused by this condition. I had two streetlights in the distance out of my window for three eyars until I realized I was seeing double. I have learned that in my instance the image on th eright is the true object in view. At any rate everything is obscured.

We see shapes but no detail. I now know most people bytheir hair and body shape, or by where I see them by association. This too lends to others thinking the blindness is faked. Do not throw a ball to me, because it is ony seen in phases of its trajectory, and even then not well. I am blessed to know how to touch type so I do not need to see what I am typing to type, though I do overlook many typos,an I probably could have corrected them, but the process ofenlarging and diminishing the page becomes arduous at times. Usually the typos are so obvious they can be read with understanding..that is my rationalization anyway.

As it worsened for me, I became resigned to the fact that I could use my PC anymore. Well after my pity party I got down to brass tacks. I bought magnifying glasses, winding up with three of them. Now I can read online most things with them. Another great tool online is using the control + or - depending on whether you are enlarging or diminishing text. I use this a lot in CC. Most times I use the magnifying glass combined with the control + or - options. Once ou become accustomed to this, it becomes automatic.

MD is no fun at all. I have to remember how people looked when I met them or take a photo and look on my screen, or the one I do not do very often, and that is putting my nose ins someone's face...of course this is very rare, very indeed.

God bless you, and I love you, with or without MD, you are special, amen.

God bless you dear Brother..........always in my prayers............

(when I first saw the Title of the Thread, so many jokes came to mind, but, then I knew it was too serious a subject....still, you know me........sigh)

:)

I forgot something very important. Always ask your doctor about midications when being treated for anything other than MD. Unhappily I did not ask my doctor about Cipro and MD while being treated for a kidney infection. +

Cipro can cause the advancement of md, it did with me. Do not take cipro if you have macular degeneration.

I always welcome prayer, always. Many years ago, knowing I always pray for the members of the Body of Christ, I realized others do the same. With that in mind I asked the Father in Jesus Christ's name to always accpt those prayers for my benefit as well a for all others.

So now you know, I am always being prayed for, but then, YOU ARE DOO. God bless you always in Jesus Christ, amen.

You know what sucks, other members of my immediate family have it, including my now deceased mother, and I AM THE YOUNGEST! lol. They all have the dry or amd, while I got the WMD at 45...go figure!

I really do not mind a whole lot either. My post, OP, is designed to give or share information about this with others who have it.

When I lost the visionin the left eye, I offered the Lord my righteye as well with the added request that I would love to keep it. There was what I could only call a miracle after this, becaue the vision left my good eye temporarily, but it came back, and this is supposed to be impossible with any form of MD.

Of course we would all love to have perfect health, but then, how the heack are we arver going to cross over with that? Besides, come the Kingdom, we will all be just fine...........

I pray you are able to get by always with your vision. We are in the best of comopany...Abraham, Isaac and Jacob (Israel) had awful vision before their time came, so I cannot nor will I complain, nope. I will praie God for everything, and I truly mean everythign, amen.

I forgot to elaborate on the "hallucinations." Most people have these when some or a lot of their vision has been diminished.

These hallucinations are not psychotic episodes, nope, not at all. They are the brain filling in the received vision with what it expects to see.

A good example of this is anything tht is large to the eye, large and with a similar designe or none within, such as a cloudy sky.

When I look kkup to heaven it is always perfect. Even though an area is missing in the true sight ability to perceive, it is filled in with what the mind would see. If it is a clear sky, it will look completely clear, and if it is a cloudy sky, there will be no gaps in the vision bcaue the mind fills in that unseen area. Thus when I look to heaven it is alway sperfect............ok, that is my take..

I mentioned earlier about my being the youngest of the three with the MD, but did I mention I got it first, lol...

Thank you, all prayer is welcome. Keep in mind though, the reason for this post is sharinginfo on the condition. I truly appreciatee your work of love in Christ. God bless you always.

praying for you, dear brother Jack.

in Christ, ellie

I have the beginnings of MD and my doctor told me to take AREDS 2 a vitamin supplement for eyes with lutein and zeaxanthin. It is manufactured by Bausch+Lomb called PreserVision. It seems to have halted the advance of it.

No prescription needed - over the counter, but a little pricey.

Most of all, I am trusting in the Lord not to lose my vision.

God bless you. I pray you do not lose your vision. There are several products on the market for MD. I should say, several products with lutein and other ingredients which slow down the advancement of MD. Most of these are pricey, but I used to take a generic brand from WalMart calle Equate, also a vision formula. It was but a few dollars for a o0 day supply. Then Amazon stopped selling them to my area, Spain. Now I am obliged to pay a lot more for the available vision formula here. Again, I pra you keep your vision. God bless you............jack

Thanks for sharing. My Mom has MD, age-related. As she has had poor hearing for decades, this is really closing in her world. She used her PC constantly for the last 20 years, even functioning as secretary for an international ministry, and can't do that anymore. It's no fun seeing her like that, but she says that she senses God's presence more now, so I guess that is a blessing in disguise. At least she doesn't get down about it too much.

Hello Dino. Your Mother is special I think. I had the very same experience when my vision was going. That is I felt I could see better, only in a different way. As some say, if God closes a door, He will open another. Something like that. I feel almost privileged to know this, and I understand exactly what your blessed Mother is saying, and she is telling the absolute truth. I am so happy to hear another who has felt this. God is so good, minding our steps every moment. I pray you and your Mother be placed specially in God's Hand as He has dealt with me. Word cannot relate what I believe I have experienced of God's great and holy Love. Please always keep alert for His blessings for you are in His hands, along with your Mom, a believe. In the love of Jesus christ always.......j

Hi jack, it's so easy to quit and believe what our docs have said, but sometimes others do want to go look what else might work. Just if this means anything.
[h=1]The Australian clinical trial[/h]The Australian human study was conducted by Sydney University Professor of Neurology Jonathan Stone. Both this study and the Italian research were similar in scope and dosage. And both conducted a more humane approach to double blind placebo studies with a non-toxic remedy than normally.

The study involved 25 macular degeneration sufferers. Instead of depriving a placebo group from a product that could do something for their ailment, the study switched placebo subjects with saffron subjects half-way through the trial unbeknownst to all involved. The daily dosage was 20 mg of saffron.

The whole study was six months long, so each side of the 25 double blind subjects had three months of improved vision with three months of impaired vision. All 25 were tested for neuron electrical conductivity in the macula and retina, and 23 showed significant improvement. Those 23 also reported they could see much better.

Proper nutrition and Dietary supplements make a world of difference

The good news is that cataracts, macular degeneration and other vision problems can often be prevented, stopped, or slowed down with appropriate diet, supplements and lifestyle changes.

And if you think you get all the nutrients you need through your diet, and or multivitamin, think again. There are very specific nutrients proven to support eye health that you may be missing because you're not eating enough of the foods that contain them … or which may not be included in your multi. It's impossible to fit every proven nutrient in one supplement, and it's difficult to obtain all the carotenoids and other nutrients we need though our food.

In addition, "Our eyes are very complex organs and require an extremely high proportion of nutrients to maintain their proper function," writes Jeffrey R. Anshel, O.D. in Smart Medicine for your Eyes (Avery, 1999). According to Anshel, even though the brain and visual system make up only two percent of our body weight, they use up to 25 percent of our nutritional intake. Thus, it's easy to see (no pun intended) that if our nutrient levels are deficient, the strength and elasticity of eye tissues may be compromised, which may result in poor vision and other problems.
