That is figurative language for worshiping GOD in spirit and truth.
John 17:17 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth
[h=3]Exodus 31:12-17[/h][SUP]
12 [/SUP]And the Lord spoke to Moses, saying, [SUP]
13 [/SUP]“Speak also to the children of Israel, saying: ‘Surely My Sabbaths you shall keep, for it
is a sign between Me and
you throughout your generations,
that you may know that I am the Lord who sanctifies you. [SUP]
14 [/SUP]You shall keep the Sabbath, therefore, for
it is holy to you. Everyone who profanes it shall surely be put to death; for whoever does
any work on it, that person shall be cut off from among his people. [SUP]
15 [/SUP]Work shall be done for six days, but the seventh
is the Sabbath of rest, holy to the Lord. Whoever does
any work on the Sabbath day, he shall surely be put to death. [SUP]
16 [/SUP]Therefore the children of Israel shall keep the Sabbath,
to observe the Sabbath throughout their generations as a perpetual covenant. [SUP]
17 [/SUP]It
is a sign between Me and the children of Israel forever; for
in six days the Lord made the heavens and the earth, and on the seventh day He rested and was refreshed.’”
[h=3]Ezekiel 20:12-24[/h]Moreover, I gave them my Sabbaths, as a sign between me and them, that they might know that I am the Lord who sanctifies them. But the house of Israel rebelled against me in the wilderness. They did not walk in my statutes but rejected my rules, by which, if a person does them, he shall live; and my Sabbaths they greatly profaned. “Then I said I would pour out my wrath upon them in the wilderness, to make a full end of them. But I acted for the sake of my name, that it should not be profaned in the sight of the nations, in whose sight I had brought them out. Moreover, I swore to them in the wilderness that I would not bring them into the land that I had given them, a land flowing with milk and honey, the most glorious of all lands, because they rejected my rules and did not walk in my statutes, and profaned my Sabbaths; for their heart went after their idols.
[h=3]Isaiah 58:13-14[/h]“If you turn back your foot from the Sabbath, from doing your pleasure on my holy day, and call the Sabbath a delight and the holy day of the Lord honorable; if you honor it, not going your own ways, or seeking your own pleasure, or talking idly; then you shall take delight in the Lord, and I will make you ride on the heights of the earth; I will feed you with the heritage of Jacob your father, for the mouth of the Lord has spoken.”
John 1:1 In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
Malachi 3:6 I am the LORD, and I do not change. That is why you descendants of Jacob are not already destroyed.
