Why would the "Pledge of Allegiance" need to be spoken in foreign languages just because it is "Foreign Language Week"? That's insane. An American pledge should be said in American. After all, the requirements for legitimate citizenship are still a minimum of 40 words of English and passing a written test on the Constitution and civics -- how the government works.

The probably used Allah..........I agree with Vigilant...........ENGLISH is the language of this country...Not Farsi, Russian, Chinese Spanish etc.....
 
This may have been a little misguided, or insensitive in some way... but it really seems like a non-issue.

Surely, as Christians, we have bigger fish to fry.

Maybe we should pick our battles, and take on issues that really matter.
When we jump on every tiny insignificant thing... it's prone to make us look kind of stupid.

Sometimes I think Christians are actually "baited" with these insignificant non-events...
so we jump on them without thinking, and then we just look ridiculous.
 
Nothing to do with Christianity in my opinion. Has to do with being American. A citizen of the United States of America. Our Pledge of Allegiance is written in English, and our National Language is English (regardless of those who wish otherwise), and that is how it should be recited in order to properly respect it.

Big deal? In and of itself? A stupid idea, not a big deal. However, when one realizes that this is just one log on the consuming fire that rages in our Public Education System known as Political Correctness, it adds to the "big deal" we should all be concerned about.

The more I read about what goes on in our Public Schools around the Nation, the more convinced I am that the "educated idiots" of the liberal elite are firmly in control.

I would agree with you if it this particular thing seemed to be pervasive.
I would wonder why it's happening.

However, according to the article, ONE school just did something goofy one day, and then some people complained and they apologized.

If that's all it really is, then it's a non-issue.

- I honestly think some of these non-issues get tossed into the media to simply distract us from more important things.
- In fact, this is a REAL TACTIC actually TAUGHT in Public Relations, and also in political strategy.

According to FNC, this type of incident has occurred multiple times across the Country in the past several years. Tie it in with that stuff going on at UC Berkley and the students protesting to name a building after a convicted murderer and domestic terrorists, and that other University wanting to ban the US Flag from campus, and all the other events that occur on a daily basis that do not get National coverage. It is an ever growing problem, and we should at the very least be keeping a wary eye on the horizon for far more damaging acts from those running our Public School System in my opinion.

This is important to me, not because of the "act" itself, but because these children are our future, and they are our children. So far, they do not belong to the State, but, shoot, you never know how far we are from that. :)

Hey Skin...if Australia had been hit in 9-11 and then had Muslims in the street singing and praising ALLAH that your parliament had been destroyed, and your nation lost a few trillion in finances and you had yet to recover would you be ok with them singing the Australian National Song while swearing allegiance to Allah.......it is not that Allah is a generic name for God, but rather the invoked name of a god of a religion that contains elements that would rather cut your head off and my head off because we are infidels in their mind.....and the distinction is made in the following statement...There is NO GOD, but ALLAH.......

I agree with you on an overriding principle that we should put COMMON SENSE far above political correctness or the latest political/social trends.

It's just that I also believe many things in the media, on both sides, are often overstated or misstated.

There is a lot of evidence, from both sides of the media, that this occurs.
Even though I'm a conservative individual, I think it's naive to assume Fox News is incapable of misrepresenting the facts (not necessarily on this issue, but in a general sense).

Also, I always appreciate your posts and comments.

Nonetheless, the context in English is offensive to students of combat veterans, which was the case for most of the offended students at Pine Bush High School.

The name "Allah" has become the common reference for the false God of Islam, for non-Arabic speaking Muslims around the world. That makes your pleading on behalf of how Arab Christians use the name irrelevant.

Although I agree that the American pledge should be said in English since it is the common language of America, there isn't much that can be said about it since English is not the OFFICIAL language of American. "Officially" America does not have an official language and it seems the whenever someone in Washington tries to pass legislation that would make English the official language it gets shot down. It seems that Washington bureaucrats like wasting billions of dollars annually providing government forms in no fewer than seven languages.
 
This is truly disturbing. The United States was founded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ, not Allah. I wish people would comprehend that.

True, from a Legislative standpoint. However, do we REALLY need Congress to tell us that the English Language is our language? I don't think so. Nor does it prevent any other language from being taught or spoken. The concept of an "Official Language" deals only with the language Laws/Regulations are written in.

Read this post -- which was just before yours, so if you read the thread fully, you'd see your point had already been considered -- to see why the name "Allah" is improper in consideration of the God of the Bible.
