Same for new covenant. Transgression of the law of Christ kills faith in Christ and unjustifies the soul as an unbeliever, beginning with God's son Adam:
Gen 2:15
And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.
Ezek 18:4
Behold, all souls are mine; as the soul of the father, so also the soul of the son is mine: the soul that sinneth, it shall die.
Heb 10:38
Now the just shall live by faith: but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him.
The difference now is that God's covenant is broken by spiritual sin first, and not only by physical transgression.
Mat 5:28
But I say unto you, That whosoever looketh on a woman to lust after her hath committed adultery with her already in his heart.
The greater the covenant, the greater the condemnation:
Heb 10:28
He that despised Moses' law died without mercy under two or three witnesses: Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace?
The lie that God's new covenant somehow accepts more transgression than the old, is to mistake greater mercy for more acceptance of transgressions.
The greater mercy commands greater obedience, both inwardly and outwardly, and not just outwardly alone.
Mat 23:26
Thou blind Pharisee, cleanse first that which is within the cup and platter, that the outside of them may be clean also.
1 Peter{1:22}
Seeing ye have purified your souls in obeying the truth through the Spirit unto unfeigned love of the brethren, see that ye love one another with a pure heart fervently:
Same today. God doesn't call any man to do what cannot be done by man.
The call is to repent. Any man can repent. The call is to do good and not evil. Any man can do good and not evil.
The chosen few are them that do repent and do good, and not evil by faith in Jesus Christ. Having faith toward God has always been the answer to the call of God:
Heb 11:4
By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts:
1Jo 3:11
For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
There are two lies in justification by faith alone in Christ: That any man ever answered the call of God and was righteous without faith, and that any man ever answered the call of god and was righteous without works. Beginning with Abel.
When by the blood of Jesus Christ, which calls for greater obedience than the works of the law alone:
Mat 5:20
For I say unto you, That except your righteousness shall exceed the righteousness of the scribes and Pharisees, ye shall in no case enter into the kingdom of heaven.
The righteousness of faith by the Spirit is greater than that of the law: Keeping a pure heart is greater than outward works alone.
Jas 1:27
Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world.
5:18
We know that whosoever is born of God sinneth not; but he that is begotten of God keepeth himself, and that wicked one toucheth him not.
Greater the mercy and power, greater the commandment and judgement:
Luk 12:47
And that servant, which knew his lord's will, and prepared not himself, neither did according to his will, shall be beaten with many stripes. But he that knew not, and did commit things worthy of stripes, shall be beaten with few stripes. For unto whomsoever much is given, of him shall be much required: and to whom men have committed much, of him they will ask the more.
Anyone that defiles the gospel of Jesus Christ as that of inward faith and purity only, with outward transgressions, is mocking the mercy and judgment of God:
Rom 2:3
And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?
Gal 6:7
Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap. For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting…For there is no respect of persons with God.
The righteousness of the Christian is not greater than the obedient Jew, by having greater faith within, and not keeping commandments outwardly. The righteousness is only greater by spiritual obedience and purity first,
with physical obedience:
1 Thess{5:22}
Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.
2:15
That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world; Holding forth the word of life;
Beginning with Abel, justification of God has always been by faith with works of righteousness, never by faith alone
instead of doing right.
1 John{2:29} I
If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that is doing righteousness is born of him.
1 John{3:7}
Little children, let no man deceive you: he that is doing righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous.
1Jo 3:10
In this the children of God are manifest, and the children of the devil: whosoever is doing unrighteousness is not of God.
Heb 11:4
By faith Abel offered unto God a more excellent sacrifice than Cain, by which he obtained witness that he was righteous, God testifying of his gifts:...For this is the message that ye heard from the beginning, that we should love one another. Not as Cain, who was of that wicked one, and slew his brother. And wherefore slew he him? Because his own works were evil, and his brother's righteous.
