This is why I keep telling you that history repeats itself and the next time around it will be on a much larger scale. Let's look at how the Bible lays it out:
Ezekiel 37 ends with Israel:
- gathered from the nations,
- brought into its own land,
- one nation,
- one king,
- David as their shepherd,
- dwelling securely,
- God's sanctuary among them,
- and an everlasting covenant.
Then immediately:
"And thou shalt come up against my people of Israel, as a cloud to cover the land; it shall be in the latter days..."
— Ezekiel 38:16
That's a very different setting from the Maccabean period.
The sequence is:
Ezekiel 36 — Israel restored and cleansed
↓
Ezekiel 37 — Israel resurrected/restored, reunited under David
↓
Ezekiel 38–39 — Gog attacks restored Israel
↓
God destroys Gog
↓
Israel knows the LORD
↓
God pours out His Spirit
