...or better yet, the rapture, (being the groom gathering His bride), but a wedding parable with a groom, and Gary saying there is no bride.Thankyou Gary and its great that we are allowed to have different interpretations and views on Scripture...As far as back and forth, i actually wont participate in it, as I see this too much in the Body of Christ, causing division and discord. You have thousand leaning pretrib, midtrib or Uturn Trib , and hardly will ever be resolved until it happens. I do need an explanation regarding
I struggle to see how this fits in your interpretation, as we will know exactly when His second coming is correct? Or are you going to tell me this has already happened as well? regardless, this is not a salvation issue, but I do appreciate your passion for this subject, and i truly appreciate you taking the time to prove your point. maybe you cleared up already.. according to your break down, Jesus returns what 2 or 3 times? vs 30, 31, 34? Or is he just jumping around? Thankyou for helping me understand your position... and God bless brother..
- 1 Thessalonians 5:2: "For you know very well that the day of the Lord will come like a thief in the night".
- 2 Peter 3:10: "But the day of the Lord will come like a thief. The heavens will disappear with a roar...".
Oh, good heavens no - I am saying that there is only one more coming/return of Christ - the Second Coming of Christ. And that, all associated end times prophetic 'events' will occur - in their proper order - at that time. He does not come - then go away - then come back again later. The very next time He appears, He is here-to-stay - to set up His kingdom on the earth and rule for 1000 years.Thankyou Gary and its great that we are allowed to have different interpretations and views on Scripture...As far as back and forth, i actually wont participate in it, as I see this too much in the Body of Christ, causing division and discord. I think you may encounter difficulties in discussing this issue. Certain individuals are aggressive to the point of abusive in their replies. Good luck.Oh, good heavens no - I am saying that there is only one more coming/return of Christ - the Second Coming of Christ. Take a look at the chart on this web page:
Every verse/passage listed in this table is referring to the same exact [overall] 'event' - the Second Coming of Christ.
I have a similar view and approach to 'back and forth' - friendly discussion can be helpful/useful, debate usually degrades everything quickly and gets nowhere fast - and generally will refuse to continue when the mudslinging and name-calling starts to destroy everything in sight - when people get off-topic and start insulting the others they are "discussing" the topic with instead of keeping focus on the topic itself.
I very much appreciate it "when calmer heads prevail" (it sometimes seems quite rare) rather than when the hot-head-know-it-alls trample a thread, rip it apart, and beat it to death. I always feel better about the time spent discussing something with a "calmer head" - trying to discuss anything with a "hot-head-know-it-all" seems much more a waste of time and effort. So, I very much appreciate your approach.
I am "passionate" about the things I believe; however, I also use a lot of emphasis when I am not actually angry or "yelling" or anything like that - so, please do not mistake it for anything over-the-top.
There are folks on here that I have had great disagreements with - yet, at the same time, I like the 'persona' that they project on here. I can disagree with someone while liking the person themselves. Sometimes - it is because I truly care - that I am so "passionate" in trying to get something across to others.
I would rather discuss than debate - and, always try to encourage calm sincere "level-headed" discussion on topics-that-matter.
I will address your explanation questions in a future post.
QUOTEFirst of all KH777 - welcome to the CC forums.
There are a number of 'shifts' in the Olivet Discourse. Please look carefully at the 'Comments' column of the chart on this web page:
Please take note of the fact that the phrase 'that day and hour' is referring back to the appearance of Christ described in verses 30-31. There is no complete separation of thought or topic at verse 36 - that verse and the ones directly after are intrinsically tied to earlier verses in the passage. The phrase 'coming of the Son of man' in verse 37 is referring directly to the same exact event described in verse 30 with the phrase 'Son of man coming'.
In the 'grammar of the language', the word 'that' (in/with the phrase 'that day and hour') in verse 36 cannot be "assigned" to a non-mentioned idea pulled out of nowhere - it has to (it must) refer to something already and previously mentioned in the passage - there are no two ways about it. And, that 'something' is the Second Coming of Christ - described in verses 30-31 - earlier in the passage.
And, if you wish to ascribe various events of the End Time Scenario to these separate "parts"/"points" of Jewish marriage tradition - then, you must also define in precision terms exactly when-and-how-and-why each of these apply to the Bride of Christ (the 'Church') throughout history - before-during-and-after the rapture.
If you equate the 'Feast' part to be 7 years - do you equate the 'Separation' part to be ~360 years? How did/does this apply to the 'Church' in history?
If you 'compare scripture with scripture' - I believe you will find that the time frame of the "seven days" in the 'Feast' part described above is identically the same as what is described in Ezekiel 39:9 in the context of the passage - which time frame and context are also found in Revelation 19:19-21 - please read them both very carefully.
You see - the problem 'pre-trib' folks have with comparing the Jewish marriage tradition with the End Times Scenario is that they assume that the end times events will occur exactly-and-precisely as the Jewish marriage tradition would dictate and did occur in times past. But, this is not the case. While the pattern may exist, the specific details concerning the way it actually occurs during/in the End Times Scenario are not identically the same.
Consider:
The 'rapture' IS the marriage.
What is described in this passage IS the marriage supper.
Revelation 19:
17 And I saw an angel standing in the sun; and he cried with a loud voice, saying to all the fowls that fly in the midst of heaven, Come and gather yourselves together unto the supper of the great God; 18 That ye may eat the flesh of kings, and the flesh of captains, and the flesh of mighty men, and the flesh of horses, and of them that sit on them, and the flesh of all men, both free and bond, both small and great. 19 And I saw the beast, and the kings of the earth, and their armies, gathered together to make war against him that sat on the horse, and against his army. 20 And the beast was taken, and with him the false prophet that wrought miracles before him, with which he deceived them that had received the mark of the beast, and them that worshipped his image. These both were cast alive into a lake of fire burning with brimstone. 21 And the remnant were slain with the sword of him that sat upon the horse, which sword proceeded out of his mouth: and all the fowls were filled with their flesh.
Everything in the Jewish marriage tradition is "represented" by 'events' of a different nature in the reality of 'events'. The "picture" is bigger/larger and the way you look at it in the context of scripture must take this into account. You cannot think about it like a man does - because, anything involving "God's time frame" requires a more "expanded" way of thinking. Remember:
Isaiah 55:
8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts.
The pattern may exist - but the 'details' are different where the 'events' are concerned.
In the Jewish marriage tradition, the groom takes his bride to her [new] permanent home - not somewhere else for 7 years first...
No one is taken to heaven for 7 years. The 'permanent' home is on Earth - for the next 1000 years.
And, most important of all - 'pre-trib' folks have the penchant to [want to] completely separate prophecy concerning 'Israel' from prophecy concerning [the] 'Church' - except - they want to apply the Jewish marriage tradition directly to the [Christian] Church - the body of Christ - the Bride of Christ.
Why exactly is that???
The 'marriage' of Christ to His Bride - His 'Church' - is a Christian marriage and not a Jewish marriage.
Why would you think that it should precisely follow the Jewish marriage tradition in every detail? After all, He is not marrying Israel...
"Food for thought..."
(At this point, this post is near the per-post character limit - the rest of your post will have to be addressed in a future post.)
Thankyou again Gary and I appreciate your response. I agree with "calmer heads prevail" and friendly discussion etc, and i do appreciate your meek approach and passion on things you believe - same as I, and that's where our Lord would want us to be. I take revelations literal, not allegorical... I believe it is in order. The church is not mentioned after vs 4, we are gone, before the first seal.. The Church is the bride of Christ Ephesians 5:22-32 and yes the trib is about Jesus (Kinsman redeemer) holding the title deed, bought legally/ paid for legally and the trib is taking the earth back, and the eviction process... the promise to save a remnant of the Jews to fulfill his ultimate promise and prophesy to Rule for a thousand years... As far as the 7 churches mentioned, although yes represented a certain timeframe in history, i believe is the spiritual conditions present in all churches, seven distinct periods of church history, and timeless messages for believers can all be found in todays church- perhaps Laodicea... / Be like Philadelphia.. Thanks again for your responses... i do appreciate your humility and rare to see in todays "church" We can and will disagree and thats is ok, If Im wrong, then i will be a martyr, and wear the crown proudly, if Im right... i will be spared and will also ware a different crown proudly but will also be humble and respect the martrys during the trib...Oh, good heavens no - I am saying that there is only one more coming/return of Christ - the Second Coming of Christ. QUOTEJust be careful not to confuse or conflate the 'details' of these things.
For example - I have actually heard people say that the 10 virgins were 'potential' candidates for [being] the bride - which is nonsense - in the proper context, the bride is already chosen. The 10 virgins are 'potential' attendees to the wedding. And, the parable has nothing whatsoever to do with who-is-in-the-bride - it has everything to do with who-will-be-at-the-wedding. Do you see why it is not a good idea to conflate the 'Bride' with those who make it through the door into the wedding before the door is shut? (Matthew 25:10 KJV)
Being kept from wrath is "a whole different thing" than being kept from persecution - or having to live through 'judgments' of God on the earth. The 'wrath' is one thing exactly-and-only - the 'vials'.
That particular promise was made to the specific church (Philadelphia) - which is associated with Christians living in a particular 'era' - which has already come and gone... (I am pretty sure we are in the Laodicea 'era' now; otherwise, we will very very soon cross over that boundary in time.)
Yes historicist view is way off.Food for thought, I would recommend all that are open and interested to take a gander at His whole series...
agreed Psalm, as many typologies are provided, my favorite tiny detail most miss.QUOTE
"In the Jewish marriage tradition, the groom takes his bride to her [new] permanent home - not somewhere else for 7 years first...

This is way off.
The Jewish wedding and betrothal have PARALLELS to the groom/betrothal/ bride/ wife dynamics.
Any analogy by Jesus, can be marred, by either changing it, omitting components of the analogy, or overthinking it.
What you NEED it to convey, is some IDEA that Jesus, upon fetching his bride, CONTINUES ON THE WHERE THE BRIDE ORIGINATED.....AHEM...HER HOUSE/EARTH.
See how reforming Jesus analogy to a doctrine is destructive to Jesus's message?
You CHANGE the bible, trying to defend a tired doctrine that a babe in Christ with a UNCHANGED bible can easily expose.
FACTUALLY, and HONESTLY, Jesus takes his bride to THE EXACT same place He prophesied at the last supper.
Pssst....it aint back to her home/ earth.
The "postrib rapture uturn" doctrine nailed back into that coffin it came out of.( by Jesus unmolested words)
(Unless Jesus was confused)
Postrib rapture and uturn = Literally a made up impossibility.
(Just one of many)
I would say there is nothing secret about His 2nd coming. All will know!Pre-Tribulation Rapture believers insist that 1 Thes 4:16-17 is a description of the Rapture prior to the Great Tribulation, whereas Matt 24:30-31 is His coming after the Tribulation. However, on close inspection they appear to be one and the same event.
'For the Lord Himself will descend from Heaven with a shout, with the voice of an archangel, and with the trumpet of God. And the dead in Christ shall rise first. Then we who are alive and remain shall be caught up together in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air. And thus we shall always be with the Lord' 1 Thes 4:16-17 NKJB.
'Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in Heaven, and then all the tribes of the earth will mourn, and they shall see the Son of Man coming in the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. And His angels with the sound of a trumpet, and they will gather together the elect from the four winds, from one end of heaven to the other'. Matt 24:16-17.
Please note the following in both passages.
* The coming of Christ from Heaven.
* Angel(s).
* Trumpet sounded.
* The catching up of saints to where Jesus is.
It is clear to any impartial individual, that what is described in both passages is the same event. And that event is Christ's coming in glory at the end of the age.
If it is said that there are some things not mentioned in both passages, then neither is it the case with John 14:1-3 which Pre-Tribbers claim to be the Rapture.
Please note the word 'meet' as in meet the Lord in the air 1 Thes 4:17. The word is 'apantesis' in the Greek and describes civic officials going out to meet a VIP and escorting him back to the city. This means that after the dead in Christ are raised and those alive are caught up to be with Him, they then proceed back to earth where Christ will set up His Millennial Kingdom.
On a historical note. The Pre-Tribulation Rapture doctrine was unheard of in the whole of Church history, up until John Nelson Darby came up with the idea, in 1830. Food for thought.
Yes indeed.agreed Psalm, as many typologies are provided, my favorite tiny detail most miss.
- The Invitation: In Genesis 7:1, God says to Noah, "Go into the ark, you and your whole family." Some Bible translations use the word "Come" instead of "Go," framing it as God personally inviting Noah and his family to join Him inside.
- The Closing: In Genesis 7:16, after everyone and the animals were inside, it states: "Then the Lord shut him in".
Yes, I know - used to it - a regular thing around here...I think you may encounter difficulties in discussing this issue. Certain individuals are aggressive to the point of abusive in their replies. Good luck.
As to the first verse...I do need an explanation regarding
I struggle to see how this fits in your interpretation, as we will know exactly when His second coming is correct?

The Israelites 12 tribes were scattered in about 60 A.D. historical factI am sorry to disappoint you, but I will not be debating the issue with you.
I have over the last few months come out of dispensationalism with its pre-trib rapture.
I had been a dispensationalist for more than 50 years. Like you, I was aggressive in its defense, completely intolerant of any alternative view.
A few months ago, the scales fell from my eyes as I saw for the first time the fruits of dispensationalism.
After watching on TV the horrors perpetrated in Gaza by Israel and the unconditional support given by dispensational Christians to Israel, I began the re-evaluate my end-time views.
How can a theological view condone the killing of so many thousands of Palestinians, including women and children?
How can so many dispensationalists support a president (Trump) who is immoral, a bully and so egotistical?
The dispensational fruit is indeed rotten to the core.
So, I have walked away from dispensationalism as not only is it bad fruit, but it is also a perversion of Biblical interpretation.
Dispensationalism with its pre-tib rapture is something imposed upon Scripture not derived from it.
I still have many unanswered questions but one thing I am sure of, that a doctrine that was invented by Darby in 1830 is not biblical at all.
